Buy what ever you can for as close to $300 each as possible. I've found that anyone that I've gotten is getting with in 1Mh/s or less of any of the other ones - all above 30Mh/s (right about 31Mh/s) single mining and all right in the 29.5-30.5Mh/s dual mining. I've got XFX, MSI, Asus, and PowerColor. All of them are stable at 1200 CPU / 2150 MEM. I could probably tweak them all a little bit on voltage and speed, but the down time doesn't make it worth it.

The 570 is also a great buy, the one XFX one I have is running at 28.75 Mh's while dual mining. Honestly probably the bet ROI, out of all the cards - but I got it for $229.

Any difference between 4GB and 8GB cards? Almost impossible to find 8GB cards, but some 4GB are still around.

I got 6 Saphire Nitro + LE, but I paid A LOT for them.

Truly amazing where prices have gone in the past 30 days!  I purchased two 580-based video cards right after Christmas - one Sapphire Nitro+ 580 4GB and one Asus ROG Strix 580 8GB "Top" OC edition.  I bought an Asus ROG Strix GTX1080 8GB OC edition about two weeks before that for $560, also.

I paid nearly $350 for the Asus card, and just under $300 for the Sapphire.  Looking around last night for "more of the same", the cheapest I could find the Asus "T8G" model is over $550 and the Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB is going for over $450 on eBay and unavailable for the most part on Amazon and NewEgg.  That Asus 1080 has just evaporated, I guess - last price I can find was over $1000.

Those are STUPID expensive prices for cards, and I suppose that we miners are to blame for these absurd prices, because you just can't buy GPU cards for a reasonable price no matter where you look right now.  Maybe there are a couple of places I don't normally look for them, but those have always been my 3 "goto" websites for computer parts of all types.

I was thinking about trying a GTX1070ti but those are priced around $800-$1000 right now.  That's freakin' crazy!  Since I am basically only doing Ethereum - at least for now with most other coins being strangled by ASIC devices, I guess that the 4GB cards are fine - for now.  I read that the 4GB cards will likely be unusable for Ethereum beyond a certain epoch in the not too distant future (let's say a year?) when the DAG overruns that 4GB size, but the exact time that happens remains to be seen - at least for now.

Current Dag Size 2,3 GB. Every one year increased more 1 GB, the maybe year 2020 or 2021 Dag size 4 GB. So Card 4 GB have time 2 years again or maybe less 2 years (just my prediction and Opinion). So, I started buying GPUs 8 GB or above.

I only buy the 4GB's for cheaper. My reasoning is firstly Ethereum should go POS before 2020 so it wouldn't matter. Secondly in 2 years the RX 580 will be devalued a lot with the new AMD GPU's that will arrive and thirdly apart from ETH AMD cards are only better than NVIDIA at Cryptonight therefore memory size doesnt matter

sapphire nitro + builts very stable. high hashrate and low heat values. with a good OC settings power consumption can under controlled as well.

Hi there, I am planning to buy this GPU as my first mining card in the coming days/weeks. But I need help deciding which one to buy, since as the OP says there are so many of them. So I wanted to summon community’s opinion on “what are the factors you base your buying decisions (for GPUs) on?” Is it chip producer, brand, MHz out of the box, how many vents, power consumption, ability to overclock... etc? Thanks

I was thinking to get this one:

GIGABYTE Radeon RX 580 Gaming 8GB GDDR5, Chip: Polaris 20 XTX (Ellesmere XTX) "GCN Gen4", 1257MHz, Boost: 1355MHz (OC Mode)

Most of the things you should keep in mind while choosing your GPU are:

Ventilation, in the 580 series the Sapphire Nitro+ has the best ventilation of these cards, every other version is inferior to it.
Durability, in this area Gigabyte does a bit better although by not that much.
Price, in this area Gigabyte is still a bit better although not by that much even here.

Keep in mind those three criteria when buying a GPU, these criteria will not enable you to make a mistake while buying.

Although Rx 580 is not profitable nowadays with only about 0.5 dollars per card in mining rewards.

My rigs have only XFX cards, had bought from others vendors, but sold all others cards after few days.

My rigs:
XFX RX 580 8GB Samsung = 31 mh/s 95W
XFX RX 580 4GB Hynix = 30 mh/s 90W
XFX RX 570 4GB Elpida = 30 mh/s 95W
XFX RX 470 4GB Hynix = 30 mh/s 95W

Saphire it's good too, so go with XFX or Saphire.

I'd recommend you to buy cards with good radiators. Memory is almost equal now and it is difficult to check what chip in the box. I think that Sapphire produces the best AMD cards.

I have no problem with this, I'm living in Brazil too hot here, but gpu goes to 60º maximum.
I'm using claymore with -tt 60 function.

Wow, this is exactly the kind of info from experienced miners I was looking for. Based on the above info I decided to get the Sapphire Nitro+ as it is only 30€ or something like that more expensive than the card I was thinking to buy previously.  @swogerino could you suggest other, more profitable GPUs?  @Privatoria I remember reading somewhere that certain chips overclock easier than others (or something along these lines), that’s why asked about it. But good to know that they play no role, less things to consider for me 😉

Unfortunately all the Gpu-s are not as profitable as they used to be. The other profitable cards are the high end ones like Rx Vega 64 and 1080 but they cost almost the double if not more than the Rx 580 so for the moment it is better to stick with the Rx 580 especially if you are just starting out to test the waters.

Mining rewards are not what they used to be and in fact they are very low compared to what they used to be.
