With the new 28nm BFL technology just around the corner - is your project still worth it?

Hahahahahahahhahaha.......

Didn't you read the fine print re: their new Monarch product?  "Make take a year or more to deliver.  Do not order this if you are not willing to wait."

I predict:-

Lucko and his team will be hashing on the first production board by the 18th of october +/-2 days

and shipping the first batch 1 orders by the 20th of october +/- 2 days

Will BFL have finished their backorders by then?  +20 weeks/-0

Monarch is scheduled for mid december  +12 months/-0

There will still be plenty of bitcoins to mine with these units for 9 months after delivery.

Who knows what else will be available by then?

Really? You think our first production board will fail? This is the only way I see this happen... I see hashing 10th latest.

My prediction is for production board hashing with Batch 1 chips, then for delivery to group buy.......... Cool
Your current assembly board is using sample chips, I will be very happy if you prove me wrong............ And have a good hashing speed as well Grin

All this has only taken 5-6 weeks since you went "Public".  Why did BFL miss their estimates so badly?

Edit:- You have proved me wrong already,  I have just read your Post header "first 100 boards ordered"

That is a really good question. I thought I will learn that. BTW we do have rev 1.2 ready just in case we made a heat dissipation error... I'm not saying we did it is just already made backup plan just in case. It might be that BFL didn't think ahead and ask them self "what if"... And I think that most of there problems are in over complicated board design and chip mounting... We will test that soon. We just need 16 chips. And then I can report that we did that in record 5 hours Smiley. OK a joke but it takes time to mount this chips and I think they just don't have enough capacity to do hi numbers...

Yes we need to be ready for first chips orders. We are that confident that it will work we paid them out of our pocket...

EDIT: It might be quiet on the surface but you probably figure out that there are a lot of thing happening all the time hire...

is there selling boards with full soldered parts but without BFL chips possible to order?
I'll like to solder the chips by myself if they arrives. Some samples are allready waiting for soldering Wink

How can I order 6 to 12 boards and when will they arrive to germany if I will order tomorrow Cheesy

Are boards without chips pre-tested?

Cheers...
If you order tomorrow and we would have boards in hands it would take about 4 days... It can be done quicker but I see no point in that since chips are not jet delivers...
Ok, please send me order/delivery details.
Delivery 2 weeks after payed is ok.
I want to order 6 boards mounted with soldered parts but without mounted chips.
I need two additional boards without any parts for calibrating the solder machine.

Best send me details via pm (I hope it will work ;-)

Cheers...

Status report on FrankenJala.

Jala board is strange. It works only to about 14 GH. After that chip performance drops and adding chips doesn't help. We are still tracking down the reason for that. But if there isn't a easy fix FrankenJala is only 3,5 chip board...

On the ather hand I did test firmware on 2 good Jalas and one not that good. Best one looks to be running around 8,7GH. We need to run them over night to see if this is the case. So firmware got 3 Jalas that we test from 16,something to 25,something... We got 15, 15, 15, 15, 14 and 13 engines working at stock voltage. It is still beta. So it looks good for COINTAMINATION board...

If we will release it publicly? We didn't talk about it yet.

Just wanted to give update on Cointamination progress.

Sorry for any confusion on time frames, we placed our order with the PCB fab at a busy time for them so our design was in queue for a short time but things are moving forward and I have an estimated ship date from the fab of September 5th.

When the boards arrive I will post pics for all to see and I am sending 5 of them to the Assembly facility to have 5 production test boards made to be sure the design works as we expect it does. They have already been paid and also have sent our schematic package to them to have them ready ahead of time. Everything has been checked and double checked, additional components are being purchased directly by them - they are ready to rock and roll as soon as I send them the boards and the chips.

Build time from Assembler is 5 days and I will have the completed boards the next day.

I do have an estimated price of what it will cost the end consumer to buy the boards and have them mounted. Form has written instructions for the pick and place machine to build 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 chip versions of this board, so all will be available however the price will not be much different if any.

Also we will offer DIY kits, as well as chip mounting services at our facility.

We will release an official price after I get a chance to talk to form and lucko about it. We usually meet once a day but thats about it because of time zone difference.

Web site still has to be completed in order to take orders, this will be completed by the time we have tested the boards. Payments for North American orders will be in Bitcoin only. Form and Lucko may accept other payment methods however that is up to them, and has yet to be determined.

I will post more info as soon as its available.

-JJ

Well sorry to correct you but unless you got really low price(that I can't get in EU) on power module the price will be noticeable different... The rest of the parts are not that big of a difference I agree...

although I know who is Lucko in person, but I never knew that that guy is the same lucko in this forum till yesterday  Cheesy , yesterday I PMed him to help me Upgraded my 3 Jalas, he kindly accepted and waited me for so long in his lab and did a Great job (for free ), the fact that it took him some time to do all that stuff, I am considering donating 2 days worth of mining to him, and I would like to ask people to help his project by donating what ever you can, awesome guy, smart and trustworthy.

I wish him best in this project Wink

edit: I forgot to say that we achieved 24.71 GH/s with only a HW-Avg. of 2.5%  , I had an Avg. of 16.5 GH/s with a HW.Avg. of 2%, so it is a win case of another overclocked Jala.

Wooow, not too shabby at all ... 24.71 GH/s.
This was probably more than a software 'jailbreak' I guess.

as I know it was only the firmware that Lucko is working on, he said that he will have a newer version that we wish to test again. so yes that is it, no hardware modification .

So we lost 0,6GH? Sad Or is BFGminer showing hashrate modify by HW errors? CGminer was showing 25,6 to 25,0 the short time we run them...

And yes it was just a software... We might increase the voltage next time too... Samples are OK with 1,2V. But I would not push real chips that hi without test since they have more engines running and higher power usage...

And thanks for kind words...
