Just wanna ask, does the documentary also talks about the whole logic on Bitcoin? We would like people to watch the film, esp not Bitcoiners. And except from what is the history of Bitcoin, we need them to learn the full logic and sense of what Bitcoin is, how it works etc. So that it can suits Bitcoiner and other people who doesn't really know Bitcoin.

not sure to what documentary you refer to in particular, most of them are still in production. "The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin" (see first post) is the only feature-length movie released so far. (i haven't seen it, so i can't say if it suits for your purposes) I hope during this summer "Life on Bitcoin" will be released, which seems in my eyes to become the most suitable for everyday people. the difficult thing is that everytime a documentary premiers it will already be outdated to a certain part as bitcoin economy is evolving in such a fast pace it's hard to catch up. if you dig through the list on first page you will find a lot of useful stuff for education esp. in the explanatory vids section. imo "How Bitcoin Works Under the Hood" is still the most in-depth explanation i've seen so far. the listed series by khan academy and bloomberg and The Bitcoin 101 Blackboard Series on wbn's channel also do a good job in that regard.

I believe Bitcoin: The End of Money as we know it. Does answer some of that need. The logic on bitcoin, the reasons for its inception, its function and necessity in the world. Its been in production for many months, the Kickstarter just launched though. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bitcointheendofmoney/bitcoin-the-end-of-money-as-we-know-it

Our film is intended for the mainstream audience and is scripted in an easy-to-understand language to illustrate how revolutionary this technology can be. So, finally; This is the film that you will watch with your parents. But of course, the story of Bitcoin is not about its function as a 'currency' or as payment mechanism. In fact, this is probably the most boring aspect. Money is merely the first app and bitcoin as a technology platform will truly change the world. We will highlight some of the most interesting use cases by avoiding the complex technical aspects behind second layer applications. Instead we will find analogies such as the Internet protocols to explain the potential.

That's right, when we began this project it was because we wanted to create a documentary that was more analytical, balanced and investigative without alienating viewers who may not have a wealth of knowledge in technology and economics. The bigger picture of Bitcoin, especially in relation to the history of money, is the most exciting aspect for us. We find there is too much attention on the price and other peripheral discussion. We will have much to say on the full scope of Bitcoin and its impact on society. Happy to take any questions, comments and suggestions you may have. Ben

Hey ben, cool you're posting here, the hardest thing with bitcoin documentaries is probably to keep it up to date until it's released. recently i read an article that described my thoughts on the blockchain system in a similar way how i would tell friends about it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10881213/The-coming-digital-anarchy.htmlit's still hard to imagine in how many ways this technology could be used in the future. i'd love to see some approaches in your movie towards these ideas although some might still seem utopian atm.

i was a little surprised by the brief excerpt from gavin andressen wherein he indicated that the day he agreed to meet with the CIA is the day satoshi ceased all communication. very interesting...did not know that

good stuff for conspiracies ...nonetheless leaves a bad after taste. here's a 2-year-old discussion on the subject: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=113609.0

Great thread, thank you. I haven't seen a lot of these. Sq1.TV also has quite a few shows that are in production that should be good.

kay, now projects keep rolling in. another admission for feature-length category: "Coined - The Story of Cryptocurrency" trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48pjSgIZCaEfunding: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chrishiggins/coined-the-story-of-cryptocurrency?ref=recently_launchedSo far the team concentrate heavily on Dogecoin and its community - not sure how big btc's part will get in the end. They also plan to cover a number of altcoins (eg. Darkcoin, Ripple, Vertcoin, and even RonPaulCoin). We’re focused on the personal stories of the people directly involved in creating cryptocurrencies and building the communities that surround them. The media usually focuses on fear-mongering (“Bitcoin was used to launder money!”) or hype (“this changes everything!”). We’re cutting through the noise to tell more personal stories, which are just as fascinating. We started production on our own dime in January 2014, and we project that we'll keep shooting through at least the end of 2014. Post-production and a festival run will take us through at least the end of 2015.

Thanks for that, looks like a good read, will pass it on to my colleagues too. You are right about the possible applications of the Bitcoin protocol and what new technologies could arise. We will certainly take a look into this, but as you said, it's important not to become outdated by focusing too much on the here and now. Cheers Ben
