Mentioned already but good communication skills are key as is being professional. Think of it like this - when you are receiving what you feel is good quality service, what is it that the person is providing which makes you happy?

I strongly believe that in order to provide good customer service, aside from being friendly with the customers, is that one must have full knowledge of the products and offers of the company.

Which quality do you think that a customer service officer must have to take good care for their customers?

I believe in ABCs of customer service

A = Attitude- not your customers attitude but your attitude alone, your tone of voice, how you deal with the customer, even body language all plays apart in the attitude that you convey to the customer

B = Business Knowledge - make sure your customer/s know that you are the expert, that you are the person that can help that customer with their issue/s.
It makes them feel very confident and comfortable with you as a professional.

C = Customer oriented service- dealing with one customer at a time, dealing with customers you need to use professionalism.

To become a good customer service provider/officer, one must first have the ability to think on their feet fast. There is always a best way to handle a particular customer and taking the millisecond to think on the best approach before anything else ensures your longevity in the field. Customers don't want robots, they want thinking people at the other end who understands them and make rational decisions to help them with their concerns. The customer service officer must then be like a professional actor. Get in character based on what the decision demands and act the part out until everything has been resolved. Then don't get tired doing the said things over and over again.

I think customer service is one of the hardest jobs, because most of the time you don't see the customer, until something isn't going well. I think the biggest key to become a good customer service officer is listening. A lot of the time people just want to be heard first.
