The coins which I like on my portfolio:
Bitcoin : being the pioneer and most accepted coin worldwide.
Litecoin : for having a blockchain which is 4 times faster than Bitcoin.
Ethereum : the most surging coin with a lot of potential
Monero : Provides complete anonymity in transactions. Keeps the information of the sender and reciever private.

Bitcoin for short-term investments ETH for the long term. I save doge, waves, and xrp for the next 1 year. Waiting until the end of 2018 hopefully this can give me a doubled advantage of the purchase price. Choose the coin that you really want, do not you save the coin recommendations from others who give you a loss later on.

This is not an ICO, and recently it got a lot of attention and it rose in price, yet is still cheap coin with low coin cap.
It is a privacy coin, devs are working on decentralized VPN based on ITNS blockchain.
This coin is very young, it launched around 5 months ago, listed only in stocks.exchange, after more listings it will go up much more.

I also believe Lisk is a solid Altcoin and definitely one of my top 5 altcoins to hold for the long term. I would say Litecoin, Lisk, Ethereum, DASH and Digibyte.

ripple will have huge gains just not a fan of it and I rather invest in something I truly believe in.

I hold these coins for long term purposes like bitcoin, ethereum, ripple, litecoin and monero.
I know these all coins are have strong fundamental team to develop more their platform coins so i see here the big potential of these coin and intended for long term holding. Like what happened of ethereum now it is pumping up in the market hopefully other atlcoin are pumping up too.
Besides bitcoin what ever happened to this coin i always trust this i know indeed i have a big profit.

In my mind, Bitcoin and Ethereum will get you income by long-term and short-term investments. The price is volatile you can use as an opportunity to buy and sell bitcoin and ethereum. Up to the present, now is the time to buy bitcoin and ethereum as it is decreasing. And wait a while for the price to go back up, so you can sell it. But you can hodl Bitcoin and Ethereum for long term because the price will be high in the future. Keep in mind many poeple who know investment in the world of crpyto is very promising.

And then, just for the long-term investment, you can choose altcoin which is still cheap. Like Ripple, Cardano, NEM and Tron. Their have undervalued price but in by next years I'm sure the price will be high.
