Cryptocurrency presents an opportunity to reduce economic inequality and improve quality of life for people around the world. We saw an opportunity to create a fairer system that could have a net-positive effect on people's lives around the world.

UniversalCoin is a digital currency with a difference - everyone has a chance to participate and get their fair share. Unlike most currency systems it costs absolutely nothing to participate, all you need is an internet connection.

How does it work?

UniversalCoin tokens will be distributed to the public free of charge 40 times starting January 15 2018. On Mondays there will be 2 separate claim windows at 00:00-01:00 UTC and 12:00-13:00 UTC. Visit this site during the claim window, follow the prompts and claim your Universal. The distribution amount will increase every week, and every week each participant will get the same amount. You can participate in as many weekly distributions as you like. There is no catch - this is wealth creation with the power of community.

So, how are we creating wealth?

As UniversalCoin is distributed, the market will determine it's value based on supply and demand. UniversalCoin holders can then, if they choose to, sell their UniversalCoin on an exchange. Universal can also be transferred directly between parties in exchange for goods and services.

UniversalCoin (UNV) is a fixed supply ERC20 token. The supply is capped at 40 billion and UNV cannot be mined.  It can be stored and sent using any ERC20 compliant wallet.

We've been working hard developing the upcoming UniversalCoin app for Android and iOS! When the new app launches, we’re planning some changes to the way UNV is distributed.

We want to share some of our plans with you as we are very interested in the community’s feedback.

The major change we have planned is that we will be allowing for multiple claims. How will this work? Well, anyone will simply be able to claim as many times as they like each week. The total amount for each distribution will then be divided equally amongst all the claims.

Eg. There is a total of 200 UNV to be distributed. If there were 100 claims during the claim window, the each claim would be worth 2 UNV. If you claimed 6 times, you would receive 12 UNV.

Why would choose to allow multiple claims? Limiting the amount of claims (eg. 1 claim per person like before) opens to the door to fraud. Even though a mobile app, its still quite difficult to stop someone claiming multiple times without infringing on that person’s privacy, excluding people, or charging a fee. Like BuildBuildBuild has noted, going down a single-claim path would create a cat and mouse game with the scammers and fraudsters that would only hurt our legitimate user base in the end.

Under a multiple claim system, we can instead enforce that 1 claim = a certain amount of human attention, as we aim to have a single claim consume 5-10 minutes. We can do this in such a way that makes it incredibly difficult for a bot to claim, or for a human to claim more than any other human. People can claim multiple times, but in a fair and transparent manner.

While this might make the distribution more fair, it will potentially become less even, as some people will get a lot more UNV than others. We don’t see this as damaging to the experiment though - if our claim process is secure (it will be) then those people will have sacrificed more of their time than others and therefore deserve to receive more UNV.

By creating a fraud-proof system, we hope that we can give our participants more confidence that UNV is being distributed fairly and that their time is respected. We believe that confidence in our distribution system is an integral part of what will determine UNV’s future value.

While that sounds good in theory, doesn't this still open this up to multi account abuse? Like if someone has access to phone simulators and some automation software they could just loop the process on a bunch of devices at once and have a constant stream of claims.

The concept is that the claim process itself can only be done by a human (eg. Repeated captcha style challenges), and would he engaging/laborious enough that doing it on multiple devices at the same time would be impractical.
