Simply talking ICO stands Initial Coin Offering. Where a team is introducing a new coin which is a project on crypto currencies they carry on a marketing campaign to aware the community about the new coin. When the coin is released, it has a initial value, as an example XYZ coin might have a value of 0.01 USD at the time of releasing. But the developers allow the community to purchase coins before they launch it for a lower rate or with bonus offerings. If you found a good project, you can get a profit simply buy selling those coin in a exchange or hold for higher profit.

One liner for this: Initial Coin Offering.

It is a public or private offering of a new coin in which investors pay with fiat or an existing coin (normally Ethereum or Bitcoin) and receive a certain quantity of the new coin. For example, I am going to launch the "Rabbit Coin" and I make a public offer for anyone who wants to buy it at 1 BTC for 100 Rabbitcoins. (RBC)

Most of ICOs are really ITOs, Initial Token Offerings really.

ICO is an alternative way to fund startup and pilot projects transparently using a network of blockchain. The objective of ICO is to raise funds to develop the projects they develop. maybe that's what i know.

Not necessarily, you can go in and out and ICO in less than a week. It is just that the coin or token are new.

You are new in the world of crypto and you already bought coins that you just read on social site? Well its pretty risky for you and hope that you will keep on learning no matter what. ICO is a great way to make money for some businesses and people, to make it simple and short ICO is a way to introduce new project in this cryptoworld its a fund sourcing to fully operate the business. Be careful on joining ICO because not all ico's are good.

ICO Extension of Initial Coin Offering. Initial means the earliest, Coin means digital token / coin and Offering means bidding, when interpreted in its entirety means the earliest coin offerings before being launched into the free market.

Disadvantages of ICO
Behind the profits there must be disadvantages that come to him. Because ICO is investing in nature then we spend money and give to third parties and the money may not be used according to the agreement when the ICO is carried away without any explanation that is clear or more familiar with SCAM.
Several things become the problem of SCAM when the ICO is not clear project, the purpose of collecting funds made by developers and teams that are not clear or not plastered. Usually this will be explained in the whitepaper.

ICO = Initial Coin Offering. It is a synonym of TGE = Token Generating Event. It is just a process of issuing project tokens which are sold to the investors. Investors can hold tokens and hope that price will go to the moon, or use them when the product is released.

Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is an unconventional method for raising funds for companies (mostly startups). It is basically a coin creation which the company is selling for a certain amount of time for a fixed price. As the method is considered profitable, many companies adopted this idea and started creating ICO's themselves for the sole purpose of capital accumulation. As more and more companies employed ICO's, so did the risk associated with them increased. Nevertheless, ICO's remain as an undeniably efficient method for fund raising. For example, I'm currently investing in the following ICO's:
1. LiveEdu - an ICO project learning platform where content creators teach learners how to build real products.
2. Swissborg - a wealthtech offering Swiss-made crypto investment solutions to the world
3. Restart Energy - An ICO project able to virtually store electrical energy.
I'm currently considering a substantial investment in the following:
1. Bountie - An ICO focusing on altering the future of the gaming industry in a positive manner
2. Cointed (CTD) - an ongoing ICO project formed by the alliance between Cointed, Nvidia, and TAS Group. It has something to do with Crypto ATMs all over Europe and Green Mining.
Any thoughts?

Icos are basically intended for raising funds for the startups, if you put your money in good ones you can make good money when they list on exchanges.

Speaking of ICOs, what site do you guys to track new and upcoming ICOs? Seems to me that there are so many sites that do the same thing that it's kinda hard to differentiate the good and bad ones? Any criteria to tell them apart?

ICO is just a new way of starting up, instead of calling for funds online using real money, ICO use cryptocurrencies to ask for fund, they giving their project to the world, asking for funds from investors such as bitcoin, ethereum or Neo,.. in exchange they give the investors their tokens to use if the ICO success and appear on exchanges. so with this when the tokens can get to exchanges, the price will high so the investors can sell for profit or hold for long term rising.

ICO is an acronym for Initial Coin Offering.  It is a method on which funds are raised for new currency ventures.  It is also called coin creation or coin launching.  It is sold for investors who want to support the project in exchange of rights or legal tender of cryptocurrencies.   ICO are usually introduced into public together with the whitepaper explaining everything and all about a certain projects.  In ICO, tokens are offered in exchange to cryptocurrency such a bitcoin or ether or flat.  The fund gathered will be used for the implementation of the project.  In return, the tokens that was given to the investors will serve as their investment on the project where they can also sell it after the ICO if they want but the value is much higher compared to its value during ICO . From that concept, investors will sure earn from their investment.

It’s the short of initial coin offering. Basically when a new project comes up , they are offering their coins from cheap pricess in return of supporting their project. It’s a great way of multiplying your money. If you find a good new project don’t hesitate to participate in its ico.
