hey guys, anyone ever used that github fork claimer tool thingy? https://github.com/ymgve/bitcoin_fork_claimer

i'm thinking about moving my BTC to another wallet and giving this a try, but would love to hear some feedback first (hopefully good?!)

I've used it myself with a few forks and it did what it was supposed to do. There is another one (https://github.com/Ayms/bitcoin-transactions) but it takes a 1-2% fee or something. If you go our website http://findmycoins.ninja, after searching for your coins at the bottom there will be a "Full report" button where we crafted some of the commands for you. It's still in beta but you might find it useful.

This one came up: Bitcoin@CBC (BCBC)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3109563.0

We will not be listing it on FindMyCoins.ninja because of its unfair nature, but you might want to add it to your "Not a true fork list". All addresses with a positive balance were reduced by 1 coin, we find that highly unfair as it makes a big difference if you had 2 coins, or if you had 100. You either lose 50%, or 1%. Aside from that, they also removed Satoshis' and other "zombie" addresses.

Thanks, I was just coming here to add that one.  I think you are right.  I'll list under the excluded section and note the reason.

Wow, found this while looking how to claim a few forks. I literally thought I was looking into 3 or 4, not dozens. Ffs this is just insanity. No way I would/could ever claim all of these or have the time to research which are scams and which aren't. If I don't get $100 out of claiming them then I won't bother I guess.

Not much to update lately.  Maybe the Fork Craze is dying down a bit.  I found "Bitcoin Master", but the announcement page appears to be all images, that are not loading for me.  I added what I could.

I agree, the fork craze is dying down, but a few forks have been innovative.

My favorite so far has been BTCH which unlike every other fork, made the common sense decision to remove all previous transaction data from the blockchains they merged (btc hush iDex), and started just with the unspent outputs, so the BTCH blockchain is 200MB, and not 200 GB like most of the other forks. In retrospect, there's no advantage to keeping all that useless bloat from bitcoin blockchains, so i guess most forks just copied what bitcoin cash did, which was lazy. Shows BTCH guys have higher skill level and better forsight than most of the other fork devs.

We just launched our guide section for helping less experienced bitcoiners through the process of claiming securely and privately:

https://forkdrop.io/novices-guide-to-claiming-forked-bitcoin-value

We slow it down with a bunch of screenshots to keep the pace comfortable for the novice that might not be a programmer and have existing CLI skills. The guide has many parts such as helping you set up an Ubuntu 16.04 live boot temporary session:

https://forkdrop.io/secure-live-boot-ubuntu-for-bitcoin-keys

Running Tor to help keep your block explorer and web traffic private:

https://forkdrop.io/running-tor-browser-from-ubuntu-live-boot

Running the tools for handling private keys and seed phrases safely:

https://forkdrop.io/running-bip-39-tool-on-secure-offline-ubuntu-system
https://forkdrop.io/using-ian-colemans-bip-39-tool
https://forkdrop.io/running-bitaddress-tool-on-secure-offline-ubuntu-system

Finding exchanges to sell the coins on:

https://forkdrop.io/scouting-exchanges-to-sell-forked-bitcoin-value

And then a very detailed walk through for using the bitcoin_fork_claimer tool:

Very nice resources, thanks for putting all that together!

I'm interested to know if you think the fork-athon will continue through 2018, you're obviously putting a lot of effort into your site

Update 4/3:  Added Bitcoin Metal.  Also, I'm moving the first "Bitcoin Lite" to the excluded list because the count down timer expired several weeks ago and no updates or fork information was ever provided.  The website hasn't changed from "coming soon"...

Thanks!

No idea what the future holds. But these forks do seem to keep coming. It seems to be functioning as a promotion for exchanges to attract customers. A subset of bitcoiners will flock sign up if they have exclusive support.

Perhaps the right way to look at the forks/airdrops are free casino chips or a coupon as a promotion for a service. Perhaps airdrops might become like coupons for non-cryptocurrency services that wish to attract an early-adopter Bitcoin demographic. Just happy to be building something while the price action is quiet - buying low on sweat equity Smiley

Good thread! But can you put extra warnings beside the names of the forks posted if they are proven to be not properly functional or scams? Ty.

Some Burst miners are investigating what Bitcoinore is all about. It looks like a scam.
