I'm confused still as to what this board is for. Since jet cash's speculation thread got moved and a thread on discussing trading altcoins as a beginner also got moved I think it's about time we get guidelines on that board.
Currently the board is being moderated at what the mods think and with a closed set of rules. I think they're doing a good job I just want to clarify what their job on that board is more specifically.
If it's a bitcoin beginners and help why is it not in the bitcoin section and if it is just for bitcoin, why can't we have one in the altcoin section? I think something like that is needed. If you try to ask an advanced question on the alts board, your thread gets bumped down to the fourth page by spammers...

I am not sure about the topic of Jet Cash but since you are saying speculation thread then I assume it was something about bitcoin price or something. The other one discussion about trading altcoin should be in the altcoin discussion board. If this is exactly the end result then I see no issue at all. This board (Meta) is to talk about forum features, implementation, suggestions etc. Everything that relates with forum discussion should be here. This is what I grasp all those day. However I have seen in this board - members were posting thread about celebrating merit, awarding merit kind of topics too. Anyway we need a guideline for this board. Not only this board, we need guideline for a lot of things. |

So what you are saying mdayonliner is that the beginners' board is redundant, as all the topics there should be posted elsewhere. In my opinion, the beginners and help board is for ( wait for it ) beginners and help. It should be a generic board for Bitcoin related topics that are at a basic level. This provides a good starting place for newcomers, and it removes the basic and trivial questions and posts from the topic boards.

This board (Meta) is to talk about forum features, implementation, suggestions etc. Everything that relates with forum discussion should be here. This is what I grasp all those day. However I have seen in this board - members were posting thread about celebrating merit, awarding merit kind of topics too.
Anyway we need a guideline for this board. Not only this board, we need guideline for a lot of things.
There are meta topics on the b&h board also which just annoys me... As if meta wasn't the place to whine that you haven't earrnt any merit people have taken to opening topics on the b&h board for the same reason which go unmoved AFAIK. If you try posting on the altcoin discussion board you can't get a straight answer. I think we could do with something similar to the b&h board, maybe also don't display signatures on the altcoin b&h board so no one has a perk to post there unless they want to help out. |

This is right, I agree with that In my opinion moderation should be minimum in that board. They should show trusts, and only remove topics in the wrong language or topics that are clearly not for beginners (advanced questions etc). Moving topics from beginners board because they fit better elsewhere is over moderation imo. Every post there could fit some other board,. So close beginners and help ... Basic price discussions are of course one the beginners main topics of discussions. Bitcoin is not an asset for crypto enthusiasts only, many people here care only about the price doesn't have interest in the technology. And those users are be welcome. |

To be honest it's almost impossible to always determine where should a topic exactly be . i doubt that moderators go into deep reading, i think they skim real fast and assuming the topic has a few key words like (altcoin) they immediately move it to altcoin section, which i agree with.
the B&H is not meant for everything that has to do with beginners, i don't think it's a good idea to have a topic that belongs to another board and just because the audience are beginners then you post it in B&H
for instance, it doesn't make sense to have " how to mine bitcoin for newbies" in B&H , it should be in the mining board, same goes to " how to trade crypto for beginners". just because your targeted readers are beginners, it's not a good enough reason to put everything on that board.
what i think the B&H should be used for, is basic stuff regarding the use and features of the forum.
such as , "how to write a good topic" , "how to rank up"," how to report spam", "how to avoid scam" , etc.
a few exceptions that are essential and don't have a very specific board such as, " how to make a bitcoin wallet" or "how to sign a message" might be of exceptions.
once a beginner has acquired these basic info about the forum and crypto in general, they then should look for these other information where they should be.

How to sign an address is for tech support...
How to rank up (we have a sticky in meta why can't they look there, maybe that should be moved).
In light of this I feel we should have a bitcoin beginners and help and an altcoin beginners and help. Either that or scrap the b&h board as its clearly a mess because no one knows what they're supposed to put there...

I think it is better to keep the B&H, imagine if the discussions and questions from B&H would move into Bitcoin Technical Support if they are bitcoin related. It would turn into a spamfest like we see in the Altcoin discussions. I have always looked at the Bitcoin Technical Support board as a place for more advanced and tricky discussions. It would be a shame if it became a place to answer questions like 'where to buy bitcoin'?

Here is where the problem is coming from, those reporting the threads are at fault. B&H don't have any active moderator if they do almost all post on the board would had been moved to other boards. The moderators acts based on the comments accompanying the reported threads. In the case of jet cash thread although it had a little price speculation in the topic it was more of a benefit to newbie since the thread offered merit and a interesting discussion based on their opinions but I believe the reason it was moved was due to the reporters comment and moderators after reviewing the thread saw some truth in the comments.
I believe this topics are getting moved because they're been reported.

Seems like meta is a place to whine about threads being moved to more logical boards and the lack of guidelines (criteria) for things they wish clarity on but have no power over...but then fighting against guidelines (criteria) on issues everyone else wants clarity on but which they do currently have power over lol. Of course whilst we raise these obvious double standards we have, we will then merit each other for demonstrating that also. haha The weird and wonderful world of meta club. |

Moderators don't just act based on the fact that a thread has been reported. Thats why we've got good/bad reports,they themselves also do their investigation on the reported thread and decide whether it should be moved or trashed So I think those threads are moved because the mods feel they should,and they are correct most of the times |

@CryptopreneurBrainboss, I'm guessing that post is in favour of my suggestion although it's a tad confusing. But yes the reporters are the ones with the issue and also the ones who will probably read any guidelines that get added to the board...
@hivalley, I have no issue with how the board is moderated honestly I'd just like to know the rules behind the board as in, what is acceptable and what isn't..

Did you even read my reply and understood it? What's the difference between your reply and mine? @CryptopreneurBrainboss, I'm guessing that post is in favour of my suggestion although it's a tad confusing.
Sorry for that, let me clear myself. I'm in support of the suggestion of having a guidelines and it should also include "reason posts can be reported for moving". What I was trying to say is that, the problem we're having on the board is those reporting the post. A user can start a thread and it can be fitted in two different board. Now when such a Post gets report moderators acts on a 50-50 percentage chance and most time the post gets moved to the other board. Example: The thread discussing trading altcoins as a beginner can fit in both B&H and altcoin board. When such a post is reported the comment associated with the report can play a big role in moderators decision since it's a 50/50 report not forgetting moderators aren't bots they're humans. |

Who would be making these guidelines in absence of active mod there? Again mprep or any other global mod.
I feel/read that Theymos believe less in writing rules but more in the discretion of the moderators handling that section.

One thing the mods could do is to take account of comments in the OP. In the case of my thread, I stated why I was posting it in the beginners forum, but this was ignored, and the move rendered the thread useless as an aid for newbies.

I often think newbies probably go to bitcoin discussion more than b&h @jet cash, its the first board for the lazy...
@cryptopbb that's correct and as I'd see it too. Witjout an active mod, reports aren't generally mod made and I don't think they'd waste their time checking a thread like that...
I'm hopeful that since no global mod has posted here, they must be coming up with the guidelines post as I write this confirming with the other 4 global mods.
