KryptoKash requests to advertise a new Bitcoin fork, "Bitcoin Interest". The ads will be oriented toward attracting miners.

I feel that all altcoins named "Bitcoin _____" are inherently somewhat deceptive because they are not Bitcoin despite having Bitcoin as part of their name, and forum ads are not allowed to be deceptive. However, especially since this particular set of ads will be targeted at miners rather than buyers, I think that this case is borderline. What does the community think about this? Should ads for Bitcoin Interest be accepted?

I don't think they should use the name Bitcoin. It confuses things in the minds of consumers.

I don't understand why they are called forks either. Surely thy come into existence by copying the Bitcoin blockchain, and then building a new chain from a specified height. This would appear to be a parallel chain with a premined section awarded to existing Bitcoin owners. It isn't a fork in the existing chain.

I'm not sure why the target audience would make it any less deceptive?
Anyone using the Bitcoin name as part of their fork is being deceptive and I would assume wouldn't be allowed.

Agreed. It doesn't matter whether you're attempting to deceive adults or children, experts or uninformed—the intention is the same.

I think it's also important to add this critical fact: not all miners are well-informed. If you consider the recent influx of bitcoin users then you'll certainly see some percentage of that dabble in mining. Some with ignorance and some without. To the latter, "Bitcoin Interest" may be deceptive to them. Wouldn't you agree?

Actually " Bitcoin Interest" is doubly deceptive. It sounds as if it is a scheme for you to earn interest on your Bitcoin savings.

I don't find using "Bitcoin" deceptive. No one owns the name Bitcoin and it is a symbol of decentralization and freedom. Who are you to say when, and if some one can use an alteration of the Bitcoin name? Plus these hard forks are direct decedents of Bitcoin, just as how a child would use the same last name as their parents. So Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, etc are justified.

Another good point to make here is that this topic is an unfair and biased post against the development team. You are an administrator and any opinion you share will most undoubtedly be agreed with... just because of your status.  Sad

Actually, theymos has a financial incentive to allow their advertisement, since, assuming they outbid others, it would increase revenue for the forums. If anything, his bias would be for, not against. And don't you think your opinion might be even more biased because you run a website dedicated to Bitcoin forks? Or should you not be allowed to post because of your status  Roll Eyes

Fantastic points! All are perfect points to allow the Ad.  People need to take the Responsibility and Educate themselves about Bitcoin and the various Forks associated with Bitcoin.

I would say it's up to members to make their own due diligence and to decide if a product/service is good for them.
I see a lot of garbages advertised on TV, it doesn't mean I buy everything
And I don't like to have someone/something blocking me thinking it's not good for me, I can decide myself and if I am wrong, I am wrong.

This was the first thing to come to my mind after reading bitcoin interest. It could trick newbies into falling for something if they click the ad and something shady is on the other side.

I would say it's up to members to make their own due diligence and to decide if a product/service is good for them.

I think bitcoin is a little different than TV. Bitcoin is still pretty new, and with it being in the news so much lately, people can easily fall for something because they don't realize what they're doing.

Agreed.  Stop treating everyone like Children....Let them learn about BTC and what it's all about. We can't hold the hands of everyone and gently show them the way to what is right or wrong for every individual.

So should every tablet be called an iPod, every car be called a Ford, or every auction site be referred to as Ebay?

The only reasons to use Bitcoin in the name are - you aren't smart enough to think of a good original name, or you can't afford to buy one. You want to give your project an image of respectability that it probably doesn't deserve. You want to diminish the market dominance of Bitcoin.

Using a parallel chain to bribe Bitcoin users to support your creation is becoming a bit old hat these days, and calling it a fork is another deception trick in my opinion.
