How many computers for 10 antminer s9's

My friend is setting up an ant farm and I'm doing some research for him. I have 2 questions I can't find the answers to.

1. How many computers do you need for 10 miners? I know there connected by ethernet but can one computer handle 10 miners through a router?
2. Can I mine more than 1 type of coin if the algorithm is the same, or is it better to assign different miners to different coins. (I think different computers)
3. Do I need a seperate computer for different coins? (I think no)

Please elaborate if you can.

2) Depends of which type of Antminers you buy. There is L3 you can miner LightCoin with it, there is sha256(for Bitcoin, or any other shitcoin with same algorithm). And there is D3 where you can mine Dash. Its all up to you. You can have 10 S9's, and 2 of each can mine different coin(but algorithm must be same). You cant mine Lightcoin with S9(sha256 algorithm)

3) No, you don't need. All your antminers are connected on your router. And throu your PC, or any other device that can connect to designated page, you just change pool settings...aaand VOILA you are good to go.

If you don’t have a GPU or ASIC hardware you can still mine some of the CPU-only altcoins.

The only reason you even need 1 computer is to access the controller of the miner. They will each be assigned an IP address once hooked up to your Ethernet. Some people with remote farms have a computer set up there so they can remotely access it to monitor their mine. I haven't done this or had the need for it myself.

When you log into the controller this is where you tell the miner what pool/coin to mine.

Research this because you will have to have an account setup with whatever pool you are choosing.


He can only mine the SHA-256 algorithm coins.

Awesome Miner isn't a pool, so they may still want to check that out as an option of managing the farm if it won't be accessible through his home network.

1. As Steamtyme said, the only reason you need a computer is to configure the miner with your pool details. You don't even really need a computer to do this and could be done from a mobile phone.

2. You can't mine 2 different coins at the same time from 1 ASIC even if they are the same algorithm because the blockchains are different and data from each block is included in the next block. (A solution that is valid in bitcoin won't be valid in bitcoin cash because the transaction history is different.)

3. Presumably your talking about for running wallets/full nodes, you can easily run multiple on the one PC, they run on different ports. I would probably run 1 PC and install the full wallet for every coin you are going to mine.

Even with 10 S9's it is highly unlikely to find a block solo mining bitcoin. So you could set some miners to solo mine some altcoins directly to the wallets on the PC and set some of your miners to mine to a bitcoin pool. You should still run a bitcoin node though and have the pool payout to your wallet.

I read all the replies, and I think they are a little confusing.  Pardon me for repeating what others have said in different words, but I'm trying to clarify.

Don't mine solo, you will get nothing at 135T.  You will profit greatly with 10x s9 if you just mine on a pool.  If you want to always mine the highest profit, mine for nicehash and let the users bid for your hashpower - they do a good job of arbing out any high paying coins so the total payout is about as good as you can get for a very simple setup.  You can get a bit more if you want to learn how pools operate and how they each charge fees and pay out, etc.  But for a beginner nicehash will be fine.

No computer is needed to control them, the ant has an onboard linux computer on each.  You need something (phone, PC, etc) to log into the ant and set up the pool info and your user account for payments on the pool.  Then you don't need to touch them afterwards unless one goes offline and needs to be unplugged/replugged.
