It is safe with no nationalists you should worry about. Costs are cheap (compared to Europe), there is a huge international student community (especially in Lviv and Kyiv). Worth visiting!

I was to Ukraine two or three times and here we go:

1) More of less. Just don't go to the far countryside - bet even in your country a drunk rednecks are dangerous
2) Mostly not, but they gotta stare on you sometimes if you're a chocolate boy
3) For foreigners the Ukraine is quite cheap but locals are pretty poor mostly
4) Yes, also you'll get double salary then the locals. Same to probably all slavic countries
5) Start ups are the answer, that hipsers gonna pay you tons of money if you're foreigner

Yes I checked food price in Ukraine, they are unbelievable cheap.  Then I searched further more why the food price is very low, cos they plant vegetables. but meat are bit more expensive , meats and fish are being imported, I will take a visit in future, Yeah mostly Indian and African students , correct me If I am wrong..

Considering that Ukraine is the punching bag for Russia, I really don’t think wise for anyone to visit there especially when Putin can be moody and decide to attack them whenever he clearly wants to. The people are great but security wise I don’t think so.

Isolated incidents can't be used to tarnish a country. As far as I know, Ukraine is pretty safe for anyone, as long as you avoid the troubled areas and stay away from the drug paddlers. At least when you compare Ukraine to other expat destinations such as South Africa and Indonesia, the former looks like a heaven. But language problems can be a concern though.
