So maybe you think vegetta was nicely 'Kanged' (A verb to describe ownage by Jessy Kang) in the thread so kindly publicised via reddit.

The real travesty of people not taking good advice (which just happens to come from Jessy Kang again) has gone on in relative obscurity in the 'Newbies' area.

Take a look at some of her early posts regarding the Newbie restriction policy with regards to merchants:
http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?action=profile;u=21320;sa=showPosts;start=120

A tl;dr summary snipped from her copious writings might be:
'The current "newbie" policy is poorly conceived at best, and a potential disaster for the currency at worst. Even the use of the disparaging term "newbie" is hardly better than calling them "marks"...

Simply put, if you want people to join your club- you don't create new obstacles to put in their path.
'

But really - don't just tl;dr it - read it and weep - especially if you're a moderator or admin.

That topic deserves to be posted on reddit for their amusement - but really... can't we just fix it?  Please!?

And before anyone accuses me of trolling. (how nauseating is it that any criticisms are so ill-received around here that we have to pre-empt like this??)

I've spent a lot of time on the Bitcoin Unit Colour Chart thread attempting to put forth positive input in this community.
Maybe you completely disagree with my ideas - or think it's lame - but nontheless - it's hard unpaid WORK.. done in good faith.

Please judge peoples posts on their merits - not on some preconceived idea that everyone just wants to cause trouble.

This is a troll post, however you seem intelligent enough to accept that it is (even if you made it not knowing it was one).

You posted a personal situation in "Bitcoin Discussion" on a topic that has more relevance in any number of other sub sections to the forum.

The post is not a troll because of content, it is because of knowingly put in the wrong area (or) because of the content.  Either way, I'm a math magician, you are trolling, but not a troll.

What the hell are you doing? meta-trolling?  I can only assume the 'this' in your post was self-referential.
My intention was to bring an issue that appears buried - out into the open a bit. For discussion - and preferably for action - in a way that benefits the community.

I find it sad to see many people here often call ideas/criticism that they don't like a troll. If this is the future of Bitcoin, it's a gloomy one.

And for Vegeta's venture, based on the EQ of his response, please please let me know when his company start trading on GLBSE...
.. So I can short it.

Agreed.

But a troll is a troll.  This thread is just in the wrong forums and brings back up the great idea of beating this poor dead horse (well, dying "My intention was to bring an issue that appears buried - out into the open a bit").

As if the post on reddit.  Or the thread discussing the post on reddit (on the same page this thread is appearing on), discussing the same things, when it all should be taken to PM to a mod, this isn't a place where the public makes the rules, that is why there are plenty of other Bitcoin forums Smiley

This is all about "we don't really need so many adopters for the time being", bitco is still not a game for ordinary people though...

If you can't handle the Internet and you can't pick out the valuable information within with trolls, criticism, hatred, stupidity...
then you don't belong on the internet.

The Internet is for letting loose what's in your head. Whether what you say is stupid or not, you say it anyway. We aren't here to preserve your precious little feelings.

If someone doesn't like what you post, they will be sure to tell you in the subsequent post.

An idea that can pass the toughest internet trolls is an idea that might actually work.

Fail. The porn-site-aspiring guy who got PWNED by someone with real experience in the adult industry is now pointing fingers and shrieking "troll! troll!" every time a positive mention is made of the user who pwned him.

BitCoinPorn just can't seem to get enough of being Kanged. Hah!

It's worth noting that she made that criticism when the policy was much more onerous than it is now.  At the time, you needed 50+ posts to be let out of the newbie area.  The time requirement may have been higher as well, I don't remember.

As for fixing it, I don't think this forum can be fixed.  I believe the best course of action is to move this forum to another domain and completely dissociate it from bitcoin.org, which is the de-facto face of the Bitcoin project.  This is supposedly going to happen, but it's taking a long fucking time.  It would be nice to have a well-run merchant/consumer support forum, but having no official forum at all is better than Bitcoin associated with this cesspool.

problem with newbies is that the ratio of legitimate newbs to the community is probably 1 to every 5 scammers/spammers.  Alot of people create new accounts just to thread crap and post nonsense because they apparently have too much time on their hands.

Yeah, that'll work.
