I am a teacher for Dutch language and eventhough kids find school in general boring, learning about their motherlanguage is for many children a one-way ticket to hell. It is not only boring, but also confronting. Seeing that you don’t know how to use the language you learned from your parents from day 1, a 100% is annoying.
My challenge? Getting them to do things they like and they experience as a success, in order to let them learn how to control their own abilities and also make it possible for them to get to the next level then.
I had a class with mostly boys in i tand at a hot day I told thema bout Kepler and what I do for Kepler. I showed them the promotional videos and gave them a tour an keplertek.org and even was proud to let them see I am on there with my face and bio. I was surprised to see ho wit impressed the kids and a week later, 2 kids even gave a presentation in front of the class and they implemented Keplertek in their presentation!
One kid talked about violence, criminal activities and how to use AI technology and robotics to manage to reduce this to very low percentages. He worked out his own ideas, but also tried to link different articles and sites to these possiblities and promoted companies like Keplertek to be the future!! I thought I couldn’t be any more proud than I was at that moment, but than Kaya started his presentation…
Kaya is a silent and shy boy. He will become a CEO of his own company one day I believe, because for his age (11) he has the incredible ability of show empathy and sympathy for every situation, we all could learn from that.
But what he showed during his presentations about ‘robots’ or robotics, gave me litteraly goosebumbs.
Kaya started the presentation with inviting my collegue George. George had a motorcycle accident just like me a few years ago. He however was unfortunate enough to lose an arm. Kaya asked George what that did with him and how it impacted his life. George told that at first he actually felt in captivity, because of the fact he was trapped in a body that made him unable to do all the things he wanted to do. Just like me, George had the ambition to once ride a motorcycle again. Thanks to new technologies, he is able to do so.
