May or may not be helpful but there were also 2 addresses originally on that post which could possibly be used to sign a message.

If I understand correctly, I believe you can just send an e-mail to get the account recovered under an entirely new e-mail address... it shouldn't matter that your new account has the same e-mail (and really, I don't believe it could, because no 2 accounts can have the same e-mail).
Do not create your temporary account using the same email address you want for the hacked/lost account. No two accounts can have the same email address.
I believe the point of this is not to create a new account with the e-mail address you are going to use for recovery purposes. It doesn't have to be the original e-mail on the account... so I'm not sure why you wouldn't setup a new e-mail somewhere and just get the account recovered to that e-mail, assuming you can sign from one of those addresses.
