This is why we need color coins, we could sell tickets to the party for 1 bitcoin to be held till 1000 a btc... The tickets could even be an investment if you capped the number the tickets sold... so maybe at the time the party actually happens the tickets would be in high demand.. I think this is a great idea but we would need to sell at least 500 tickets to have a real party, one that gets international attention and raises the value/profile of Bitcoin itself.

Anyone want to launch the world's first IPO funded party? lol

oh, but you shouldn't.

Maybe it's said in the thread and I missed it, but what exactly are the conditions? Is it sufficient for a single trade to happen >= $1000 or does it have to stay there during the party? I guess something in between these 2 extremes would be good, like: 1 daily vwap (use one of the bitcoinaverage.com numbers) above or equal to $1000 would trigger the party to happen, even if exchange rate subsequently drops below again. Of course it might be rather humiliating and the establishment might laugh at us if we have a crash to 400 right before the party, but I'd take that risk personally.

If history has anything to teach us, it'll go from somewhere in the 800s to well above 1500 within a few days. That's how it went at 10 and 100. No way will we have time to plan and setup a party within that time frame Tongue

Yeah, well, I'm gonna go build my own blockchain. With blackjack and hookers! In fact forget the blockchain.

I'm working full time on getting yBitcoin out into the wild, but will be taking the month after off... I am legit serious about using colorcoins as a ticket for the party. The more I've thought about this idea the smarter it seems. We sell 1,000 tickets, use havelock as a platform with an IPO price of 1btc. Tickets are autosold for fiat at 1,000 a btc. Planning starts now for a 1,000,000 usd party, with the proposed agenda used as the '"prospectus". All bitcoins would be held in a transparent account for auditing purposes. As the price neared 1k and it became more likely the party would happen, the limited # of tickets would become worth more than 1btc. Not only would this party serve as an interesting talking point for bitcoiners to facilitate laid back conversation with others and get international recognition, but it also would be the worlds first IPO funded party.

If this happened, I'm willing to pledge free advertising in yBitcoin for the party. Please contact me at david@ybitcoin.net if there is interest in doing this. Give me some time to respond tho, as I mentioned I have almost no time at the moment but will soon.

We still have plenty of time, I guess.

I enjoy this thread, the thrill of anticipation can be more joyful than the thing itself Wink

I absolutely love this idea (hope the party wont attract any drone strikes, btw).

But: do we really need havelock? Can't we do it all on the blockchain somehow?

I am humbled that my name is on the list.  I never thought I was that popular in high-school so this is new for me. Wink

Sounds like fun guys!  We will have to see what happens when the price actually gets to $1000.  I am not one of the big holders like some of you are though so even 1 BTC might be hard to part with even at $1000. But if I was only better at speculating?  Maybe then?  Wink

I'd be in for two tickets, should a viable funding mechanism come to be.

I know nothing of havelock - isn't that an equity exchange? I've learned not to trust this class of business. They all seem to implode, vaporizing vast swaths of wealth.

Anyone with a campaign ad in their signature -- for an organization with which they are not otherwise affiliated -- is automatically deducted credibility points.

I've been convicted of heresy. Convicted by a mere known extortionist. Read my Trust for details.
