What was it in the 2012 election? 10,000 ish votes for the libertarian candidate? Surely there are more than 10,000 libertarians with the ability to vote. Does everyone vote for rep/dem candidates because otherwise they know that their vote is meaningless/unhelpful otherwise, as the third parties are realistically never going to have a presidential slot (or even more than a few house seats)?

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

When there is an option for Libertarian, I usually vote for them. But your vote matters most in local elections, since there is a smaller number of voters, and there is not always a Libertarian option. I usually vote in the Republican primary to try to help choose the most libertarian of the options there, like I voted in the republican primary in support of Ron Paul and for Michigan governor I supported Snyder in the primary, but in both cases I then voted for the Libertarian options on the general election ballot. (And before you get all huffy that Snyder is not very libertarian, he was much better than the run-of-the-mill Republicans he was facing off against)

If Justin Amash in nominated by the Michigan Republicans for Senate next year, then I will definitely vote for him.

I believe a better question is, if a Libertarian were elected into office, would he be at all capable of pulling a sinking ship from the ocean?

And if so, how long before he's assassinated for affecting the profits from warmongering?

The voting thing works only for minarchist, but not anarchist libertarians.

At the time of the latest municipal elections in the Republic of Croatia, posters appeared in Zagreb, stating that next to Milan Bandić, the best candidate is no one and urging people to excercise their right to vote by writting and circling a number greater by one than the last on the official list and write "Nitko" – "No one" – next to it. I don't know if the point of the posters was to say that all our politicians are crap, if it was an anarchist libertarian poster, or other.

Libertarianism is just a dumping ground for pill-heads, dreamers and degenerates. They have no practical idea whatsoever. They just spout endless unworkable nonsense while resolutely ignoring anyone that points out the catastrophic flaws in their reasoning.

Just leave them alone to spin their wheels endlessly in their mindless rainbow dreamland.

Balancing the budget, granting more power to the states, legalizing things and taking an isolationist approach to militarism seem like practical ideas.
I thought a bitcoin forum out of all places would understand libertarianism.

Of all the political ideologies, Libertarianism is the most curious.  As soon as its adherents understand Libertarianism, they abandon it & move on to something less embarrassing.

1.275 million actually.  0.99% of the popular vote.

Far more successful than they are in Canada, where they get about half as many votes as the Communist parties.  Their eliminate single-payer healthcare" policy plank endears them to few.

Many of us do, but it seems the "less you know, louder you are" rule still applies even in writing.  Anyway, many of us are actually closer to the central anarchistic side of libertarianism than the right-winged version Tongue  As practical as the things you listed are, and as much as they would solve many of our problems, I don't see it happening in America; its people are completely uninformed (one of the no-no's of a democracy but that's state-owned education for you; never heard of a catholic school preaching atheism, yet we expect government to be unbiased against itself apparently), and its politicians are just yearning for more and more power, which they have received; it's a clever plot, I think, since they mask it as "it's for your safety", and of course people took the bait after the events of 9/11, despite the undesirable patriot act floating around before then.

America's full-speed ahead to either conquer the world or die trying; their time is running out, since their currency is always getting closer to the tipping point of owing more in interest on its debts than what it takes in through taxes.  Once that happens, they can't pay for a single thing; all our tax money goes to interest, so the roads and the bridges and the welfare and the military and social security, all the things statists love, will not be there anymore; ironic, isn't it?--we often grill libertarians, for how would we pay for our roads without government, and yet it's through government we'll no longer be able to pay for our roads.  It seems more likely America will collapse under its own weight before a libertarian takes office and tries to turn this ship around.
