As for the media, they are really riding the popularity of crypto's every clicks = money. It's normal. There are big speculators that try to get out the most of everything. They can spam us with wonderful news, they can spam us with FUD.
Some help them for money, some help them because they got fooled.
How else could you imagine that all the insignificant crap said by the bankers was all-headlines and all the real good news were almost unnoticed?
In November, any ETF listing came with waves of joy and new ATH. And those were not as important news as SegWit adoption, for example.

All this show make the newbies lose money, either by selling low, either by buying high.

Now leading Australian banks say they are allowing customers to buy cryptocurrencies. USA's congress hearing was also good about Crypto's. Coinbase is finally adding Segwit support and say they have just begun the final testing phase. Singapore says they have no strong case to ban Crypto. South Korean ban may get nullified because of their supreme court. All of this was logically a positive effect to why it had a recovery today. But the recovery is still "small".

Either way, if total market cap drops below 300 billion again, i'll use the chance to buy some extra coins. And if it goes up i'm happy too.

Yes I agree on this matter, bitcoin now was really a great way to the future on our finances. Somehow we should be able to prevent those rumors to affect us to be panic. I have a chance to make a profit, but my advice is to keep what I bought because this rise is nothing compared to the decline that happened.

The scenario is very much obvious. Bad news triggers fears to the community. And if there are fears and uncertainties, many tend to play safe. So in order for them to lessen their losses, they sell some of their "crypto-asset". This results to slight decline. So the fear and uncertainty of others build up because of the decline, that's why they follow the selling. The chain goes on.

The same way for good news and rising prices. People tends to be more optimistic when they see good news so they buy more.

More money is coming in on a constant basis. If the price is going down, people like to point at bad news being the reason for that. If the price is going up, people point at this or that event to be the reason. It's not that we have gone up a lot justifying a high level of excitement -- we just broke through the $9k resistance level today, and that's it. Let's just wait and see what the market is up to in the coming days, and start talking about different scenarios after that. As long as we haven't yet managed to break through the $10k level, there is not a single bit of optimism from my side. In other words, remaining conservative for now is more of a fitting stance in current market.

The cycle feeds itself, essentially. When BTC is going down, people FUD all the time. The news sources somehow start covering everything negative about bitcoin and every problem that bitcoin has, instead of focusing on the big picture.

When BTC goes up, just like now, BTC seems like a ridiculously cheap investment opportunity again.

I have no idea what is causing this, it could be manipulation, but please, don't let government intervention news affect your trading in any way.

At the end of the day, bitcoin is decentralized and has nothing to do with the government. People aren't going to stop trading or using bitcoin just because the government said so, just look at China. Still a huge market, even today.

Long term holders don't really care that much about short term pricing. So they're definitely not the ones "FUDing" in this case.

What I .personally see is a flood of negative news coverage from major sources, such as bloomberg, cryptocurrency news sites, as well as a surge in the amount of negative/pessemistic posts in speculation that leads to other people panicking.

And miraculously, after bitcoin bottoms and price starts to climb back up again, all these regulations are not a worry anymore and bitcoin is clear for takeoff again. Just make sure that you are aware of these trends and don't get sucked into buying high and sellign low.
