Although ERC20 is the leader, NEP5 is catching up fast. Ethereum has the first mover advantage and it is natural that many ICO launch on ETH blockchain, but there were also many dubious/scam project that vanished into thin air after the ICO.
ICO projects on the NEO platform have been performing very well, and they even get listed very fast on Kucoin!
I believe both will co-exist and both will adapt and grow with the changing landscape.

Looking at the top 100 tokens on CMC ...

Ethereum - 92
Omni - 3
Neo - 3
NXT -1
Ardor -1

Ethereum is dominating, but I do think they are getting outclassed technology wise by the new comers.  Ethereum needs to scale and update.

What is the best platform to build a ICO? Neo or Ethereum?

for today i still believe ERC20 Still dominating on the cryptocurrency.
but overtime if they don't made any change that's be surely can be replaced by NEO.
and basically I still have faith to Ethereum. if they made this transaction more cheaper and fast,
I guest they are will be the best crypto technology on this blockchain era.

By NEO? What about ETC? That's real faith in Ethereum. You mentioned transactions being cheaper and faster.... Ethereum Classic accomplishes this.

The ERC-20 token is staged for an identity crisis. With the new regulations in the United States, the hype around new developments I suspect classic is on the edge of greatness.

I think NEP5 may be better, because there are many ICO projects based on NEO, and the transfer speed of NEO is fast, and the transfer fee is 0, which is better than ETH.

This is determined by the degree of acceptance.
The ecosystem of neo has developed very well recently, but I still think people will still publish token on ERC20 in a short time, rather than NEP5.
ETH, after all, has a broader supporters than NEO, while NEO supporters are mostly in China and Brazil.
The conclusion is that NEO may catch ETH in the future, but ETH is hard to surpass.

If for now I prefer to use wallet that supports ERC20, because it is more popular than NEO. But we don't know in the future, it is possible if NEO can compete with ERC20. NEO should continue to developing, if it wants to like ERC20.

https://themerkle.com/what-is-erc827/amp/ ethereum is already working on something new. We can't talk about which one is better, both are probably good and for now more icos are made on ethereum platform. Neo Chinese ethereum will be better for Chinese and Asians maybe, but ethereum will find its place in US and Europe one mkre great article https://cointelegraph.com/news/the-ethereumization-of-wall-street-is-inevitable-expert-take if you see it good then you know Ethereum can be taken by another, more advanced platform. But for now, it makes more than 80 percent of the market. Out of the 580 tokens out there, 475 are on the Ethereum Blockchain. There is a nice graphic there, take a look on this articles and you then make your conclusions, for now ethereum is more adopted then any other platform, will they continue to dominate we will see.

Well, I never encountered an ICO that build on Neo (NEP5) platform and just know this NEP5 by now reading this topic and some replies. I think ERC20 is a classic one to build an ICO but if there's one thing that could overtake of it then it might be this new platform I guess. Never doubting ERC20 but they have better branding in terms of ICO.

NEO and Ethereum has indeed solid platforms which offers both smartcontracts and decentralized app, either of the two would be okay to use but if you are looking for a future proof platform that would be NEO,because neo is an upgrade version of ethereum's platform.

If NEP5 is better then ERC20, why so much ICO's create on ERC platform? Maybe it seems that ERC is better?

Either of the two would be good to use if you are planning to create your cryptocurrency, but if you are looking for the future prooft platform choose neo as it has more advance technology than ethereum's platform.

I think ERC20 tokens will run and will be the #1 as always. There are a lot of ICOs that uses the ethereum blockchain for smart contracts.

indeed it is NEP5. much faster and cheaper than the ERC20 tokens  build on ETHEREUM blockchain.. ethereum developers need to solve the scalability issue

I don `t know why, but I will choose ERS-20. Maybe because it's more popular, because the tokens on the ETH platform seem to be using more and more people. So I think that it's probably ERC-20.

yes i am still using ERC-20. They are very popular on the bitcointalk forums and are really needed for bounty.
Most ICO projects require bounty ERS-20 so they can send money to us. NEP-5 is a really strange name and very few people use it. I do not really trust NEP5. The ERC-20 is a great choice for good security.

NEO has a better platform than ethereum,so if you are looking for a future proof platform choose neo platform,NEP5 will definitely replace erc20 tokens the future, but if you have used erc20 tokens for your project that would be okay for now because ethereum is dominating the market.

Ethereum, the popular cryptocurrency and blockchain system, is based on the use of tokens which can be bought, sold, or traded. There are several different tokens which may be used in conjunction with Ethereum. One of the most significant token standards of all for Ethereum is called ERC-20, which was developed about a year and a half ago. and
NEP5 tokens run on the NEO blockchain (such as RedPulse, Qlink, DeepBrain, etc). NEP5 describes the standard that these tokens conform to. They are all “built” following the same set of “rules”, allowing them to operate on NEO.

NEP5 is really nice cause its really cheap and fast to transfer tokens. You only need to hold GAS
but for ERC20 its little expensive. Sometimes its really too expensive to transfer.
