Very cool. It will be interesting to see if the fees for exchanging bitcoins for cash and vice versa will be lower than withdrawing money from a regular ATM. Margins will have to be razor thin to compete with ATM machines, which I believe is one important measuring stick for this forthcoming service.
I can't wait for the first one to be set up. I'll be in Vancouver this December and now I may not need to pay to exchange fiat! Peace

We're deciding now where to put the Vancouver ATM. Any suggestions are you a spokesperson? Bitcoiniacs asked me to find a place to put it. I don't technically work for them directly. I make venues accept Bitcoin for the Cooperative, and am friends with a Bitcoiniac or two.

We're deciding now where to put the Vancouver ATM. Any suggestions I've been thinking about this, but there is no easy answer. Is this something that will be only accessible inside a business during business hours, or more like an ATM that could be accessible 24 hours a day? Obviously the more central the location is the better. Would be cool to have it near a business/es that actually accept bitcoins for payments. A place like Capers markets like 15 years ago would have been ideal.

1) Are there 7/11s, or other 24-hour convenience store chains in Canada? 2) Is there a centrally-located franchise owner under said chain who would be willing to make room for it and connect it to internet?
Perhaps if it took off, the franchise owner could convince corporate to expand it past just their individual franchise.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

Hmm.. not so sure.. I know they used to have trading posts. A more important consideration might be keeping it dug-out from under all the snow, and parking for snowmobiles, of course. More seriously: Granville Island or the bitcoin-accepting Waves coffee shop at Howe and Smithe would both be good locations. Or any 7-11 (yes, they have convenience stores in Canada).

Airport was one of my first thoughts as well. The Vancouver airport is pretty out of the way for residents, but for travelers it would be great. Would get a lot more foot traffic passing by then almost anywhere else in the city I bet.

I'm friends with all of the restaurant and cafe owners here who take Bitcoin (my role in the Co-op), and so far India Gate is willing to take an ATM, maybe. He has a good spot, but power might be an issue. He has long hours, though.
Waves has less long hours, and is less centrally located, but is ideal in other ways. I could hold CoinFest there and ask Bitcoiniacs if they want to unveil the ATM as part of that. But the franchise is still unaware of what we're doing for the most part, and their reps visit the coffee shop at least once a week. A giant ATM would raise questions. I have to figure out the situation, there.
I'm trying to convince a hotel, but no luck so far.

Ok, I have to watch this... here it comes...first minute isn't too bad...oh oh..mmm...okay, well they don't have a good understanding of bitcoins and the news anchor admits it. Nothing wrong with that. Some of the other news anchors and financial specialists we've seen in other news channels don't even give btc a chance before they start bad mouthing it. Overall C- for not doing their research or getting someone on who knows what their taking about. Any coverage that isn't negative is good I think. Peace
