Not a big suggestion but good to have as per what we have in practice, right ?
Eh, it's extra lines of code for nothing substantial. While we're at it, we might as well add an option that allows us to toggle viewing our own signature, avatar and personal text. It would seem unnecessary, and only serve to
remove utility at the
cost of, as Vod said, processing power. I don't even see, notice or look at the merit button unless I have been genuinely impressed, amused or informed by a user's post. I have never been reading my own posts and then thought to myself "That darn +Merit button, gets me every-time.", nor do my own posts catch me off guard.
I just don't see who this would be helping, and given the limited resources of the staff I wouldn't see this as a priority by any means. Sometimes it is helpful, but it never gets in the way, I don't see the problem.
