Chips have been tested to run at extreme temperatures. One user used a soldering iron to heat the chip to the point it desoldered. Hashing stopped only when chip started floating on solder and shortcircuited.
dafuq O.o What can I say ... the bitfury chip is a Russian design Their stuff may not always be the prettiest or most efficient but it's been known to work when nothing else works ...

Fans blowing on them or just static testing? I think he mentioned before that it was just passive cooling - no fans. Edit: I found it: This was on a powered USB 3 hub, with no cooling.

any ideas on wether or not this hub would allow over clocking beyond 50 osc6 bits if they were plugged into the 1.2 A ports?

any ideas on wether or not this hub would allow over clocking beyond 50 osc6 bits if they were plugged into the 1.2 A ports? I think there is a very good chance it will work - with more power you could easily go up to 53-54 bits. Have in mind that the higher the speed the more heat you'll get. So, cooling will be a must.

any ideas on wether or not this hub would allow over clocking beyond 50 osc6 bits if they were plugged into he 1.2 A ports? The 1.2A ports only work, if no computer is connected! On the page you will find a footnote: 2 Enter the Fast-Charge Mode by disconnecting the DUB-H7 from your computer, or by powering off your computer. It is recommended that the total power consumption of the connected USB devices should not exceed 2.4 A, or 12 W. I would recommend an USB3 Hub. USB3 allows up to 900mA per port.

any ideas on wether or not this hub would allow over clocking beyond 50 osc6 bits if they were plugged into he 1.2 A ports? The 1.2A ports only work, if no computer is connected! On the page you will find a footnote: 2 Enter the Fast-Charge Mode by disconnecting the DUB-H7 from your computer, or by powering off your computer. It is recommended that the total power consumption of the connected USB devices should not exceed 2.4 A, or 12 W. I would recommend an USB3 Hub. USB3 allows up to 900mA per port. any recommendations on one for an rpi? rPi doesn't support USB3.0 unless its updated now. rPI supports USB3. Update the kernel, on raspbian with "sudo rpi-update".
