You can join or leave the project any time you like, even if you're the original creator. It's that way with open source. You don't know his personal life so you really can't judge the reasons.
At least he picked a new team lead instead of just going AWOL.

You don't know that Satoshi isn't still contributing to the project under another name... He probably just changed to another account and posts still amongst us - sometimes I think I can feel his presence

What kind of pussy invents something and does not even support it himself. I get the whole remain anonymous thing cause there will be a shit storm over bitcoin but look at the leader of wikileaks. You may or may not agree with wikileaks agenda but you can respect that Assange is publicly standing up for what he believes in.
He created it people should be thankful for that. Since when do you have to dedicate your life when you create something cool? If he has a wife and kids he's doing the smart thing. Shit even if he doesn't he's doing the right thing. He can support it without being the poster child for inventing a drug cartels dream semi anonymous virtual p2p currency. There's a lot of good in Bitcoins, there's also a lot of bad in Bitcoins. You dig around tor/darknet you find some pretty sick stuff and you'll also find people buying some pretty sick stuff with Bitcoins. Bitcoins is to currency what freenet is to the internet. Freenet sounds great on paper until you realize it's packed full of child molesters. Assange isn't the face of Wikileaks just because he believes in it. He's the face of it because he's on a personal war against the united states. Don't get me wrong, I love wikileaks and Assange, but he's a little nuts. Satoshi should be proud of what he's invented and he doesn't owe us anything. Go be happy and enjoy life, we're all doing the same thing why should we demand he make a sacrifice we're not making? He has a duty because he's smart? Seriously? I hope he has 50k bitcoins and he's on a beach somewhere from where I'm sitting he's earned it.

I'm just saying John Hancock committed treason and risked death buy signing the Constitution, What if he signed it John Doe, we'd still be part of fucking Great Britain.
Maybe if public key cryptography and TOR had already been invented he would have signed it with a key instead.

In some way, Satoshi sacrifices personal reputation. He might become one of the most famous inventor of this century, but nobody knows who he really is. To me, Satoshi is a quiet professional. Doing great things in the world but not necessarily known by the world to do great things. It's like being a navy seal. You're one of the best special force unit in the world but you may never be famous.

You don't know that Satoshi isn't still contributing to the project under another name... He probably just changed to another account and posts still amongst us - sometimes I think I can feel his presence More then likely. Maybe not as far as posting. But I simply can't imagine a human being creating something like this without at the very least lurking on some random account reading what's going on every once in a while.. I know I would never fully disconnect myself. Wouldn't be able to.

It's kind of interesting to imagine him as different people.
And each username you imagine him being, brings about a different scenario in the mind.
eg:
What if gavin is satoshi? What if atlas is satoshi? What if jessy is satoshi? What if dsp is satoshi?

We should have a poll! Gavin would probably win and now that I think of it, the Gavin-is-Satoshi-theory was never conclusively disproved...
