Noteworthy in Altcoin, where general theories are less applicable and there are no official rules in many ways including trading, the main factors most influential in the analysis is the information, whoever has more information then the greater the opportunity profit or avoid losses, including information on the beginning of the pump-dump process.
I think the analysis of choosing altcoin which must start from the most basic before it can determine the possibility of profit potential.
First, Coin classification first
 1. Cryptocurrency with technological factor as its background eg NXT, Opal, Syscoin, Dash, Factom, etc.
2. Coin with specific theme / utility / purpose, for example: Doge, Litecoin, Viacoin, Vericoin, etc.
4. Coin which functions as equity / stock / asset / investment, eg Unity, Amber, Arch, Maidsafe, Supernet, counterparty, etc.
 5. Coin pump-dump / scam / market manipulation eg Viral, Pro, Crave, Paycoin, and so on

we can't predict  which coin will be grow and good in crypto, all the coin is good, but in my oppinion we can research the marketcap first, if want to invest the ICO, dont forget to Research and learn about the company program in they website, here you can know about they project product, team work, planning and marketing ability for the ICO and Experience advisor, and who is the bounty manager to promosing the ICO Project.

I am afraid that there is no solid tools or metrics that we could navigate and monitor into in order to predict coin performance for there are a lot of factors to consider. Every coin's gain depends on the market it will tackle and the investors who are willing to support such platforms. I think all coins is good,,but if we want to invest ICO, the first what should do is learn and research about the ICO, it mean we need to know about the company team, who is the bounty manager, read the whitepaper, how they promoting program, what they product ect. and dont forget to see the market about the ICO growth, so we can know about future of the coin.

I think the first thing is to read the white paper to know wht it is about. And then you need to find out who ar ethe team members and if they have the ability to make it a good one.

Unfortunately, you are right. It's not an easy task to find worthy coin to invest in. The solutions are 1) read thoroughly whitepaper 2) good intuition

No one knows. The 'good' u mentioned means that coin will fly in the market later, which means u should predict the price later to make that assumption.
