http://www.sfgate.com/technology/businessinsider/article/Two-Guys-Just-Started-A-Site-That-s-Like-A-4808998.php

Quote
One of the most common complaints about Bitcoin, the encrypted, digital currency that isn't controlled by any bank or country, is that you can't use it to buy anything practical. Alpaca wool socks? Come on, now.

Entrepreneurs Michal Handerhan and Tim Sidie have started BitcoinShop.us in order to solve this problem. Their site is probably best described as "Amazon, but with Bitcoin."

There's 55,000 items for sale across all categories – books, electronics, sporting goods, even toys. It's all available here for purchase, via Bitcoin.

^Literally the whole article.

YESSSSS. Now if obtaining bitcoins wasn't so cumbersome, sites like this and the bitcoin store would see much higher volume. As an enthusiast, I try to spend BTC whenever I have the opportunity. But in all honesty as the infrastructure for obtaining coins currently stands, it's not worth the hassle of acquiring more to spend. If I made a few coins from arbitrage or tips, sure I would spend them, but when that spare coin wallet is empty, it's back to the plastic in my leather wallet.

As more people generate income in BTC, sites like this will take off. And as sites like this take off, more people will generate income in BTC.

That is certainly NOT the problem, getting money into the exchanges is. A low volume just means that the price will increase to accommodate the level of commerce in the system.

True, but Gox is dying, AND exchange volume isn't necessarily a good measure of coins being used for commerce. Especially if the business accepting the coins turns around and spends them or pays in employees with them. Hoarding can be a problem, but only if that's the sole reason people have bitcoins. It's ok to keep some as a store of value as long as you make a point to spend some too. Otherwise, what's the point of hoarding them? Just hoping that other people will make use of theirs?

Some items are notably cheap. But most of electronics and computer parts are more expensive than on Amazon. I'd expect better offers for bitcoin.

@OP

WTF with the self-moderated topic ?
Is this an advertisement or what ?

@Mods

I think that self-moderated topics should not be allowed in "Press" section.

Excellent!

What we also need is:

https://www.bitcoinshop.EU
https://www.bitcoinstore.EU

Otherwise shipping and income tax/duty is way to high for us EUers.

Yeah that's a downer. I said at home "hey I'm gonna buy a jigsaw puzzle with bitcoin no less" and they wouldn't believe me. It was only later that I learned this. I guess now they'll think they were right.
