Reddit's /r/bitcoin had a big part of it, from what I've seen. It's a neat idea, and a great organization, and I hope it continues to do well.

Astonishing. Particularly: The mortgage holder is in fact a real-estate company with properties in Florida, Alabama, Colorado and California and, thanks to the Sean’s Outpost crew’s efforts, the company is now accepting Bitcoin for its entire portfolio.

Hey,
This is Jason from Sean's Outpost. Thank you all for the kind words. We are constantly humbled by the generosity of the Bitcoin community.
We are really excited about Satoshi Forest. I actually just got back from walking the property with some people.
I would be happy to answer any questions anyone might have.
Thanks so much.

I love this idea. I'm always conflicted, giving money to charities or organizations. I mean, the causes are often excellent and it seems like they'll really make a difference, but you can never be sure your money gets to the people that really need it.
This, on the other hand, is pure gold. You guys are doing amazing work, and the fact that you're bringing awareness to the Bitcoin community is just icing on an already amazing cake.
Thanks for everything you do.

We have big plans for Litecoin in the forest, we have some awesome projects coming up.
If anyone wants to help, we always are looking for volunteers.
For the record...
1 LTC = 2 Meals for the Homeless
240 LTC = 1 months mortgage payment on Satoshi Forest
3200 LTC = 1 "bitHouse", home for two homeless people.
Our donation address is...
LcAUizf19Nbv7aHf9aaKeNSkhdZCGsGHYZ I know they are accepting litecoins.

this is a great idea. i for one would like to see bitcoin as a whole take up a charitable cause: all tx fee's, or 1% of block subsidy paid to homeless and other charities, similar to the way devcoin works.
|
My negative trust rating is reflective of a personal vendetta by someone on default trust.

That would be bad feature, let the people decide what to do with their BTC !

You must recognize that agreeing that "paying it forward" and agreeing to donate all tx fee's (whatever that is), or 1% of block subsidy (whatever that is) to charity are two totally different things. Open4lies never said paying it forward is a bad thing, he said it should be the individual's decision, not some centrally controlled feature. I agree that it would be a bad feature for many reasons, one which I inferred to above, that this would centeralize bitcoin some what when one of the greatest attributes is its decentralized nature. I think you were suggesting donating some of the transactions fees, this would take incentive away from miners that are the ones keeping the network running. Now the block reward is relatively high compared to transaction fees, but in the future, fees will make up more and more of the miners incentive. It should be up to the individual what to do with their bitcoins. Lets leave taxes for real world governments to play with.
