There are numerous things that bitcoin needs to improve for its crown to not be taken away by a better cryptocurrency in the future. A feature that needs to be improved first is its transaction speed. Maybe they could solve it by giving dedicated servers for each countries so that the main server will not get crowded and internet traffic would be minimized.

I also don't feel there is really anything to be done in order to improve Bitcoin because it has gained it's famousity all over the world already other than for it to be accepted in various countries that are yet to. Not only would this help to reduce the time and traffic transactions from everywhere on the globe produces, but also it would ready bitcoin to become a world-wide currency.
