Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

For me, it'll be best to hold it for now. For ICOs, try gaining more coins to make it more profitable if you're going to invest on one. I normally see investors on ICOs going not less than 1.5 BTC. You could still choose to invest, but it's a must to hold it, and make trade it to make a profit. Remember that BTC's price is recovering as of the moment, so it won't be long for it to go back to its former price.

I'd advise to keep your half Bitcoin for the long term. If you want to invest on new coins, buy them with BTC or ETH or whatever but keep your half of a Bitcoin with you Wink

The Bitcoin's price is expected to increase in the future, so even if you hold your half BTC for some months or years , you can make good earning. Or invest in the most promising altcoins like Ethereum and Litecoin because their prices are going up fastly in the few previous weeks.

I would agree with others and advise you to hold for the long term
because there is a better chance of a return.
There is a great potential to increase profits now that BTC is at a
low price when it rises.

If investing in an ico or another coin i use new funds and leave my
existing BTC for the long term.

if you have that much, you can use it to invest on more than one ICO.
try search 'Bitcoin Bank'. It will pay dividends for its investor.
or if you like to try other ico, search on altcoin section.

Cry keep holding it, you may not know that it might reach $15k when march ends. It's a better way of investing, you may invest but, you must really select the best one you think it is worth it.

Maybe you can invest in ethereum or maybe in bitcoin cash. You can see the market cap online to check the alternative coin next to bitcoin. But you cant guarantee the nearest value to bitcoin. It has a huge gap in value.

It was advisable to hold it for the maintime, we all know that price of bitcoin in previous days drops, if you will sell it today, you may incur losses. Just wait for the perfect time to sell where in you will gain a large amount of profit. Never excited to sell it, the longer you wait the bigger the profit.

If you have 0.5 BTC and you want to invest in ICO, you can select it in altcoin section of this forum. Some people say ICO is very risky of fraud, so you should be careful to take it. My suggestion you invest 0.5 into the ICO Ricona, because I think Ricona ico is very good

If you posted, “I have 0.5 extra btc that I’m willing to lose.” Then I would help you find somewhere to gamble it and maybe become a lucky winner. Any “investment” has the potential to take all of your btc away.

A sound investment for someone without much money is to hold what you have and add any extra fiat to that slowly as you earn it through a regular job. Take all the money that you would rot your teeth with every month (buying sweets and soft drinks) and add that to your btc holdings. Pick a thing that you spend money on every month that you don’t really need and buy bitcoin instead (I suggest dumping your girlfriend, you wouldn’t believe how much money you can save with that one alone). Bitcoin has the potential to increase by 100%, 200%, 300% or more in a short time. That’s the least risky investment you will find around here.

Only keeping od this money will bring you fast and big profit. Bitcoin costs around 11k$ today and I am pretty sure that in a month or maximum two we all will celebrate new price's record. I suppose any other project will not bring you such collosal profit as simple holding.

Half a bitcoin eh? It would be risky if you invest all of it my friend.IMO,i think it is good to save the half of it and the other half for investing, just choose a good ico though and a promising one. There are ICO's that is scam,so be picky.Another thing you posted in a wrong place i think,if youre looking for some ICO's then the alternative section is the best place to ask for it.

0.5 BTC is a fair amount to start with, if I were you I would invest in mining equipment with high ROI. Get yourself a new ASIC miner at as close to market rate as possible, and mining the most profitable coins. There are pools that automatically switch to the most profitable coin. Just be careful, and don't get too greedy by mining moonshot coins continuously.

I'll suggest you to just hold it since its market value is now starting to increase. Also you may consider investing more to it so that as it go along with the increase, huge profit will be earned once its market price fully recovered or simply, as its msrket price is increasing. Trading is a bit more risky compared to investing based on my experiences so for me, investing and holding is more advisable.

I think you should invest in Ripple and Ethereum. I know Ripple is a over rated coin which is not even decentralized but has a high potential to grow. Both the altcoins has a potential to rise so do invest in them as they both will help you to increase your profit.

Right now I would keep them nice and quite, just like they are. If you check coinmarketcap, and match all those coins to bitcoin (you can do that by changing the currency display to BTC from USD), you will see that bitcoin is leading the way in this recovery. Most other coins are on the red, when compared to bitcoin, so right now you would be losing money. I would wait for BTC to stop it's bounce attempt, and start consolidating on the daily time frame. That would probably be the right time to change to another coin. I would recommend ethereum, since it was quite strong before the last dip, and is lagging right now, compared to BTC. So I think it will have a nice run, once BTC stabilizes.

For me, the best ICO this year is Fusion. The ICO went smoothly unlike many other icos this year. Also they reached their hardcap within just a day. Moreover, the idea is very good the team is solid as well . I expect at least a 10x after the mainnet launch in May this year.

Invest to Bitcoin more. I won't suggest trading at this moment because the msrket is still on its way of recovery. I think it is more advisable to hold that amount and to add more in order to esrn profit as its market value is increasing. Hold and patiently wait until it fully recovered from the downfall.

Find for an ICO that fits your ideal. It is good that you are interested in investing it in ICO because there are quite good projects out there, but I think it 's better if you hold your coin for now, and invest more in bitcoin while the price is still low. Right after the chinese new year, the price started to increase slowly so after some months, it is difficult to buy bitcoin again because of its high price. Anyway, it was just my opinion,if you are really into ICOs, then you could research for it,just always beware of the scammers.

Whatever investment you want to do, don't not buy coins with them all. Split and keep a part in your wallet. Hodling is also an investment because of potential.
You can buy some coins then, like etheruem, litecoin, dash and waves.

Buying into ico sometimes doesn't pay. It is stressful and delays to start monitoring the progress as it is going. I would prefer to wait till in hits the exchange.

Maybe it will benefit you to research in coinexchang e instead of trying to buy in ico because of its challenges.

Whoa, whoa, whoa

Before you do anything and invest into some coin, I'd suggest you to follow McAfee on twitter. He puts out like "Coin of the week" every week and that coin spikes in price for quite something. My friend invested ~20$ in electroneum and after 3 months sold for ~700$ just by following McAfee on twitter.

That would be my suggestion before you do anything and for everyone that plans on investing in some alt-coin or ICO.

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

If you can take risk then I will suggest you to buy ETH or LTC with 0.5 BTC.Because we see price of these coins are pumping up recently. So I think ETH/LTC is wise options for investing.OTOH,You can hold it for bitcoin price go up.As we can see the progress that the price of bitcoin is increasing after a break. And it will.continue to increasing near future. So it's also a good way to earn some more btc.

I am glad you asked! Smiley
You should diversify the portofolio. If you want something less risky, but with great potential do this split of funds:
60% - Big Caps
20% - Medium Caps
10% - Small Caps
10% - ICOs

You should make profit with a really less risky portofolio.

Investing in an ICO can bring you good returns but you have to understand about the high risks as well. I suggest you to diversify and hold some BTC (maybe half) and invest the rest into altcoin and ICO projects. Better to do your own research than asking for other opinions.

Before you investing in any ico you should bear in mind there is a chance of high risk to loose all of tour money. Cause there is scammer every where. But again if you think you want to invest in ico them i would love to suggest you to go for eth based ico. Like lunyar , voise vsl was the successfull ico of ety tockens and did reach to their target. So before you invest you should be well aware of what is the project  about how strong is the teams are?
If they funded the escrow?
Did the team has done enough to clear the doubts of any investors and most  of all are they active as the projects and the managers were needed to be.
If you think you find a good project or ico of eth based tockens then i would suggest you to go for it.

Bitcoin try to back their position again ,they already reached 10000$ +.So i think you can hold bitcoin until you get 3x profit.Bitcoin will be 50000$ soon and after  the end of the  month bitcoin will be 15000$.No need to invest your bitcoin any ico or trading but you want to invest your bitcoin buy waves or eth.

before investing always do your own research. First I thought it would be best to invest in many different icos but in my case that was a mistake. I finally found a project that I truly believe in and now I invest energy and money in it. But it took some time. So don't hesitate.

I like the line "I suggest dumping your girlfriend, you wouldn’t believe how much money you can save with that one alone". That's one of the best advices one can have if he want's to save money  Grin Grin Grin.

I would keep my 0.5 BTC untouched and raise new funds to invest in other things. There is a good chance that you will receive further airdrop or fork tokens from your Bitcoin like Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold etc which will increase the overall value. If you feel confident to trade in Bitcoin then go in and out of USDT to take advantage of the dips to grow your coin.

There are many altcoins that is worth to invest with. Just do a little research about the altcoins you like to invest. My recommendation for you is to hold your some of bitcoin, I think bitcoin will have future and it will pump anytime in this year. If you want to invest in altcoins, there are altcoins that has potential like ethereum, litecoin, ripple and NEO. It is up to you if you want to risk in some altcoins, but I think some of altcoins that is worth to invest with.

In any one you should not invest. And in a single project, too, it is risky to invest. The most reasonable decision, in my opinion, is to invest in three or four carefully selected projects. And you need to select really worthy projects.

You should keep your bitcoin as it is because bitcoin has already crossed it's resistance line and we can see out break of its prices. This will surely happen within few weeks so it's better to hold little more and get on board.

If you think your brain is confused with ICO and bitcoin then I would suggest you to invest 30% of amount into ICO . There is no right now in investing ICO as bitcoin is spiking really good. If you want to invest then you can invest into SCL, DIW, BUZZSHOW etc. They are the only promising ICO for now.

My opinion is hold now because btc is just start to recover and there would be great chance to hit $20,000in btc price soo then after you can invest with icos try to find good icos by researching and asking crypto experts but do not invest all amount in ico may be 50% in ico and 50% hold as a bitcoin

I am surprised where you got your 0.5btc from and don’t know what to do with it.

But if I were you since I am assuming you are a newbie or something like that, read and do your own research about cryptocurrencies and bitcoin. And for your choice of coin or token to invest in; go to coinmarketcap.com and check the top 20 coins and you can choose from there.

Hundreds of ICOs are present in market that are only working as scam strategy. Don’t blindly select any one, rather make a deep and proper research where you may have satisfaction that in which you are going to invest, is efficient and authentic.

Wow that great, why not try to invest it in Karat Bank here is the link for your reference http://www.karatbank.io . The said ICO would be revolutionary, as some says gold is one of the secured assets who you could invest on, this company will accept your crypto and thru the sate of the art technology, the blockchain technology which enable user to have a more secure ledger like list complete with your transaction logs.

there was one article which were describing problems with ICO
and in that article was a statement that about 57 % of all ICOs in 2017 were closed and all investor's money were wasted  Cool
so before taking a part in any ICO, please count that info as well

Hold it for some time, take a deep breath and do your own research. Spend some time in learning about the concept and potential of the coins from ICO and alt-coins. I would recommend diversification of your funds to avoid the risk of any incident taking place in case of any single investment option. Do not invest based on other's opinion, you will get many opportunities so stay away from FOMO effect.

but if you still wanna invest on ICO. you can invest on this :
  • Loomia
  • Babb
  • Dadi
  • Coinmetro
  • Datawallet
  • Fabric

0.5 BTC is a good amount to be on hold. I wouldn't spend it right now and will just wait until bitcoin fully recovers. Just don't pay attention to the FUD but if you really want to invest in ICO's, you need to DYOR.

Where to invest?
Any ICO

In order to answer this question properly we need more details:

1) How much risk you are willing to take: If you are ready to take more risk, you can go for alt coins. Risk here means that there are also menaces of loosing lot of your investment. But this also means that you can get higher returns in less time in comparison to bitcoin.

2) How much can you wait: Based on my experience, if you can wait for 8 months or more, you will at least get double of your investment. I will always choose bitcoins over alt coins if I have the time to wait. This is because it is much more reliable.

Then you are just in time for the MOONLITE ICO, hurry you have 16 days more left at the time of this posting. But let be tell you something about Moonlite, they are startups which focus on mining crypto using a green technology and by that they is possibly the first one who help people engaged into mining at the same time promoting a greenier future. Some ICO promise a good return but the question is how can they do that, in Moonlite, they will mine crypto which means a more profit for the investors. Go check them out see the links below this post.

You can check in market cap if you want to invest your bitcoin into alternative coin but be carefull to a scam investment you should ask first if the coin you want to invest is trusted. but investment is a long term to hold altcoins its too risky. if you want you can hold your bitcoin and wait for increasing the price..

Where to invest?

Hi there icytalk, I would recommend to invest your money in a trustworthy company which will never bring you down. There are lots of ICO out there which based their coin into crypto itself, but unlike KARATBANK which based their crypto on the gold itself. Each coin represents a certain weight of gold and can at all times be exchanged into physical gold in the form of CashGold. And just like other crypto you can exchange all of your karat currency into other crypto or fiat money like dollar. If you are interested you can find more information at their website, just click the below link after this post.

If you will ask me since I am not the risk taker everyone here is, I will just keep my bitcoin.  I will wait for the right time for bitcoin to goes up.  And it is not impossible because bitcoin has a very good potential on having its price goes up.  Maybe you can increase that amount of btc you have by doing some job which will earn you bitcoin.

I am happy to offer you TokenGo you can click my signature below to check their website,
regarding the benefits you can get it I think you will find on their website and whitepaper
or join their community camp to asking what you think it or feel it for more benefit as their investor,

as I can to say it,
TokenGo is not the ERC20 Token
even though they are using Ethereum smart-contract
but it's just to contributing ICO only and then they will develop their wallet and platform.

from what I know,
they will launch TokenGo blockchain's official network,
web platform and TokenGo acquisition
in IV quarter of 2018
and for future they will list other ICOs through their Platform.
more question please join TokenGo Camp

Check out the altcoin discussion section, there are quite a few good ICOs on the way, and a few that recently ended. E.g. Metronome, Zilliqa, Nex, NEXO, The Abyss etc, definitely a few promising candidates for 2018 and the year has only just begun.

Hold you bitcoins for the long term that is sure to give you back some good profits rather than investing in an ICO buy you may also gain more profit by investing in an ICO but the chances are totally unpredictable. I would say hold your bitcoins and if you want to invest in any ICOs add some extra money from your pocket to invest then if by any chance you lose some money in the ICO the kept BTC might cover the loses.

If you have zero knowledge about trading with altcoins or  don't know any of it better to hold that bitcoin since its too risky to invest into other things that you don't know, just keep on learning and then later on invest some of your bitcoin into good altcoins.

if you have Half Bitcoin - I would suggest you to keep it as an investment and try to get more bitcoin Smiley

I agree as he said, better save in btc form and continue to develop up to 1 btc, if you want to buy ico may also, but sometimes the new coin must hold in a long time, so if to be a better profit daily trading in the market,

If you are a newbie then it's better to hodl your btc then to invest in some ICO and getting scammed and losing it all. You need to first understand the market and learn how to do proper research before investing in a coin or ICO. Otherwise, you are going to get burned real fast real soon.

Before investing in any token or in new ICO just think twice because you never know what the future of these tokens will be,but that is not the case with bitcoin,i would rather hold on to my coins rather than investing in anything but if i find some promising projects then i would take a chance,i suggest you to keep half and invest half of your coins.

The best thing you can do with that much money is going to the freelance site and make yourself a new website. Do you have enough money to start a new business people need a lot of services and goods which they are not yet getting from the internet if you can provide the stuff then your business is going to be very much profitable and it is far better than any investment stuff?

It depends on how rich you want to be and how patient you are. You can hodl and wait for it to rise moderately, or gamble it in the altcoin exchanges by picking a fast rising coin that will appreciate in value faster than bitcoin. ICO's are good if you find a good one.
