1 year is usually short term for traditional markets but crypto currency markets are too immature, it has only 10 years of history. So holding 1 year in crypto currency market count as long term investment. Everything is changing too quickly here.

I think it will probably say a long term,on those 12 months running expect many things happen in the price value of btc.Pumps and downs but holding is still the end of your money ,I think on the end you holdings became more profitable because of flactuating.

It will depend on the coin that you are holding like for example for bitcoin that it took a lot of years to achieve that kind of price which is 10k plus dollars and potentially go even further than its own former price which almost 1 dollars each, some coins these days have a short lifespan on the market due to some factors and circumstances so 1 year of holding is enough to be considered as a long-term investment and some of them can survive like bitcoin did so it will took many years to see a promising results.

I'd say it's long term in terms of crypto. In the stock market, 1 year is nothing, but in crypto, it's considered a very long time because the crypto industry is in its infancy. I'd basically consider anything over 6 months fairly long term

6 months for new projects is enough to see what they are capable of. There are a lot of examples that the coin after 4 months has already seemed to the maximum value of the price.

Many many people say they are holding this, holding that for the "long term" but please tell me what exactly is your guys definition of "long term"?
For me, 1 year is considered long time. I began investing this January and I will hold one year and cash out everything January 2019. So by your definition, is this more short term or long term? Is 1 year enough time to see gains?  Huh
Answering your last question even one day sometimes is enough to see gains, you could just buy some alts for 0.01 and sell them for 0.30 after one day, imagine that you bought a 1000 of them... So longterm is defined individually

It is definetely long term, I think short term can be defined even as less than 1-2 months. As this market changes very fast, 1 year is definetely very long term for me.

where will your funds be invested?
Bitcoin or Altcoin are equally profitable, but should always monitor the development of the market and News about cryptocurrency. longterm 1 year is enough for longterm, but must buy at the lowest price like these months and sell at the highest price.

That's long term my friend. I may not be an expert in crypto entirely but a friend told me just hodl for 6 mons at least. Coins usually pump within that cycle. As for me I hold good coins only but I trade them too. More profits at the same time.

I think holding for one year is very short term. I have hold the bitcoin, litecoin for more than 5 years.

Long term is holding indefinitely, until a opportunity comes to sell.
But there's a big problem with that. You see, holding indefinitely is like losing everything. Why? Because one never really cashes the thing out and enjoys it! And your statement involves a contradiction, since 'indefinitely' doesn't have sell opportunity. Oh, and what to consider the right time to sell? You said it's the next bitcoin pump. What if it comes in a month? That won't be a long-term investment at all. And what kind of pump is considered to be sufficient? Is it btc at the price of $25k, $50k, $100k or even more? That's why I think that it's best to decide in advance the desired price and sell the coin when it reaches it without caring about its further ups or downs. The limit has to be set on price as well as the maximum time of holding, because burying your funds with you is a useless thing to do.

More than 1 year is always an long term investment because if you find potential coin it is always good to hold long term in order to make good profit on the investment you make.

Yes a 1 year is already enough for a long term. Its enough to see whether you gain a lot or lose your investment. A promising coin with good project will surely make a pump within a year. Anyway what is your target gain? 2x ? 5x ? 10x of your investment ? or you only want to cashout at exactly 1 year?

Best answer for now, in your intro. But this is not really an excuse for crypto. Otherwise you can say there is no such thing as long term in crypto because it has to prove himself. That's not true either, because to have faith and belief in a project beyond what you know or even beyond the lifespan of yourself, that is long term. Sorry but 1 year is not long term in crypto, it never was and never will be. Even ICOs roadmaps are longer than 1 year, what more Bitcoin and other reputable coins.

I shudder to think of devs who see 1 year as long term.

1 year hold would be considered as long term which i do have the same target when it comes into altcoin holding which i do decide to keep it atleast for 1 year or more which most of the time i do see gains on what im holding. It might not applicable or possible on all coins but high chance on getting profits compared into its price a year before it might not be a guaranteed profits yet there are the best time on securing profit once coins price had pumped out.

I think if you are referring to crypto markets then yes holding for one year is considered long term but at the same time it also depends on the performance of the project and team you are investing, some coins do not yoeld expected returns even afer a year but some may easily go above ten folds.

For me it is slightly different and that is any coin I am hodling above 6 months is considered long term for me. Most of my holds are long term, there has only been a handful of coins I have picked up for the short term and most of those ended in a spectacular failure.

In terms of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service any asset held for over one year (1 yr) is considered Long Term. All Short Term assets are taxed at a higher rate than Long Term assets. See IRS Publication 544, "Sales and Other Dispositions of Assets". My suspicion is that the Financial Industrial Complex ie ... Wall Street, uses the term in the context of IRS specifications.

I consider it long term too and I think if the coin is good you'll definitely see gains after a year. An example of this would be NEO, I don't have NEO on my port but I very active on crypto when it started so I have a little background of it. A friend bought at the rate of $30 to $40 something last year then NEO dropped to less than $30 after that, when NEO rise again he sold it. After a couple of months look at NEO now, I was surprised to see it trading at $100 rate which is really a great gain after just a few months.

Be sure that the coin you are investing is really good so you'll gain profit after a year.

I consider this long-term, I trade my coins when they hit my profit level at three months at the most, majority of the coins has their pump level at three to four months period and when they are performing well at the 5 months period I sell some of it, and wait for the time I break even.
