If an entity is large and powerful enough, is it possible for it to gain a monopoly advantage and manipulate the rises and falls of the virtual currency market?

Yes, absolutely. But it needs the right timing. Like when FUDs are all over the internet, make a large sell-off and everything with weak hands will follow. Then its your chance to buy again at low price. And also when good news spreads, make a large buy order (but don't actualy buy it) and others will make higher orders than yours.

Financial collusion poses the greatest danger to all types of markets. Stock market players often use speculative methods to make quick profits. Various methods of manipulation From information technology to everyday psychology are used. If the company has a high liquidity this is used by large banks and corporations.for speculative earnings. They have an informal arrangement among themselves to buy up the currency EN masse. Thereby creating hype and artificial demand for the currency for which there is currently no supply.

It is very possible. We can see it on their coordinated attack to Bitcoin and how they managed to FUD it and buy bitcoin at a very low price. Then the next thing is hype. Bitcoin market had always been like this. Whales together with influencer and social media promoters, plays a huge part on this. If whales tapped these mediums, they will be able to control the market effectively. It is the mood and emotion that dictates the market and influencers are great on this kind of stuff.

Well said! It is sad to realize that the prices in the market are played by "whales", and we are only a small link in this chain. Bitcoin was not created for this, but for the transparency of financial relations, as well as the convenience of tracking and storing the necessary information.

Of course yes! Specially, if there is only a limited supply of market. If someone holds even 1/5 of the market then he can manipulate its price. If he will holds his investment then the price will smoothly goes up and when he sells all of his investment for sure, there will become a great crash.

Yeah there is a possiblity because those who own the big part of the pie will have the control of the entire pie because he or she can buy all parts of the pie. But it seems in bitcoin many big investors that want to control the pie or share of entire market cap, because of that the price will soar high.

This is true. I have seen this happening with big brands of world. I am going to relate this one with the crypto currency as that would be the perfect example. Just look after the apple company. This guy have played great monopoly by giving world the apple products. There is no apple product which can connect to the outside world products and thus forms the great monopoly. If you want to hear the music then you need to have the ear pods. If you want to control the Apple TV then you need apple remote. Lolz. Everything is monopoly here and they are earning huge money out of that. For any crypto currency industry who has the power of the monopoly would do the same and can bring down the crypto or could take it to the top of the hill. So yeah that can happen truly.

Very possible especially if that someone has a lot of money to use to manipulate virtual currency market once they sold or bought a huge stock of virtual currency its market will surely change and people will follow with the change. That is where the manipulation starts with that someone who have the guts to dropped or buy huge stacks of virtual currency.

Its for sure a yes, anyone can do it who holds a large stacks of any virtual or digital currency. In this bitcoin you can see it yourself, you can observe how market works and uses some big news to manipulate. In this kind of market which no one ruled everyone can make it.

Yeah, and most especially since they have what it takes to always play the market out to their advantage. They are big, they are rich, they always hold good position in every market and they take advantage of the lower traders and all the stop losses to get their profit. It is not possible for someone (a single person) based on the topic to manipulate the market though, but for group of big boys with huge position, this is very possible and we are already experiencing that.

I believe we are currently seeing such manipulations very frequently in the market.
Also the fact that most investors are mere speculators makes such manipulations very easy.

For someone who bought loads during the early days or during the stagnation in 2014, yes, they can control the market at will but that doesn't mean they'd do it. Market manipulation in crypto is not new; pump and dumps were just a common thing back in the days and if that isn't manipulation then I don't know what it is. Most of the time, manipulation happens to a low-volume coin and some private group decides to buy a huge quantity of it and overhype it. That in itself is already manipulation in play. If the regulated stocks can be manipulated, crypto would also be an easy asset to manipulate as well.

Yes definitely! Those who manipulate the market are called "whales" - these are people or a group of people holding large part of a particular coin and use it to their advantage like selling it to their desired price. When these happens investors will start selling so they can buy back into the coin at a cheaper price.

It's not only possible but it's being done too... Even right now. The ones holding highest shares in the cryptocurrency Market.. buys and sells at the same time and that cannot be a coincident at all..!! When the bitcoin cash came .. we clearly saw how the big ones were prompting everyone with them to leave BTC and go for cash.
The more money you have in the cryptocurrency Market the more authority you will have over the market.

Yes indeed. These people/group will definitely be able to manipulate the market movement. Using psychology and their vast amounts of money. They can cause FUD and stuff to bring prices down.

Oh this thing! Why not, they can do it if they want profits and that too hell lot of profits. Im not sure about the monopoly or stuff but they can bring the major change to crypto currency due to decentralised nature of the crypto currency. This is already known that those who have most of coins, for example, altcoin project where someone bought more than 10-20% coins at early bird stage! Such person can really hold big power as most of the ICO's do not end up selling the 100% coins and they burn the unsold coins too. Thus this % in later stage can become more than 30% for that particular person getting him huge power. Just imagine he selling all the coins at one moment can bring the market down. So yeah that possible I believe.

Yes, if someone holds a big share of the cryptocurrency there is a possibility of price manipulation. A single move of his coins can make a big difference and impact on the value chart. If the value goes down, some people who have easily panics, will definitely follow and sell yheir coins.

Well, it really is possible if you think about it since money and connections make big influences which can really enable anyone to do anything he or she wants. It can even help enable someone to bend laws. So it really isn't impossible to happen and is a pretty logical thought. It may sound something that is out of a movie but really, this is the reality that we are currently living in right now, sad but true. But still, profit is still very possible if you know how the markets move or at least know a bit about it because by this we will know when to invest and how long to hold before these whales go and take profits again. I think all we need is to study more about the past movements of the markets. Just sayin'
