This of course is wrong. What people are buying are “Certificates of Saving in Petros” and not petros. They receive a piece of paper which says that they acquired a certain amount of petros, nothing more. They don’t receive petros on the blockchain.

If you look closely at the photo of the lady who bought here certificate on 17th of January you will see that the number of her certificate is four digit, that’s below 10000. It’s difficult to read, but the first number surely isn’t a 9 or 8, so actually the number is below 8000: Less than 8000 Venezuelans bought this crap.

I’m sorry, but these people are not buying petros but “Certificates of Saving in Petro”, something totally different from a cryptocurrency or cryptoasset. Nothing crypto about a piece of paper. (I showed you in one of my last posts how it looks.)

Even your twitter links only say (in Spanish of course) that those people received those certificates, nothing about receiving or buying petros.

The simple truth is: The petro as a cryptocurrency wasn't released yet and all the propaganda of the government can't change that.

I gave up few months expecting development and till this day nothing new to save the scam, Maduro stole lot of money I personally invested 12 ETH at the time for a value of $5000 it is painful, now everybody Ho invested are in a group in telegram trying to exchange the PETRO/NEM onto the new scam...I have a question where is the topic moderator Tasseenb?

Coinve, this is proof that you were promoting a scam. This guy was never reimbursed in new petros despite sinking $5000 into a public crowdsale of the original petro.

Dude, do you not understand a single thing about cryptocurrency? That poor old lady holding a piece of paper in her hand -- she just gave up actual money for... a piece of paper that certifies she holds petros? What is she supposed to do with that? Who says the petro is worth anything? You can't exchange it anywhere. The only thing you can do is buy petros with bolivars or BTC. That's it. You can't cash it out -- its physically impossible.

Dude. That's not a petro. It's an IOU for a petro which may or may not be redeemable, and for what, who knows? You really don't understand how cryptocurrency works. A coin isn't yours if you don't have its private keys. We don't even know if petros have private keys because people aren't allowed to own them. We don't even know if the coin has its own actual blockchain.

This does pretty much defy the whole point of crypto.   I know there are other instances similar but this is pretty extreme as example of solely relying goodwill of your note issuer to come through with any value or asset in exchange for supposed worth


I'm interested to know if any kind of democracy or capitalism can be restored to Venezuela to avoid needless starvation of many to serve the purposes of the few.    Just a few people sitting at the top isnt a working system, I guess its no surprise that the route taken with crypto has been unilateral.   The blockchain might as well be an Excel spreadsheet or a normally available database from a number of makers for all the advance it represents.   I made a database in DOS many years ago, it was a basic accomplishment for me but it stored all the records accurately and in theory I could distribute, replicate and issue data notes as and when required.  However it had no unique value or utility to it that other programs couldn't offer, I couldnt expect anyone else to use it especially but it was a working exercise or example.
 So where is the USP of PTR, every idea needs something but all I see is a vehicle for a forced scenario for usage.   Again thats not what crypto is about, I'd be happy to hear of any innovation occurring

Well, guess the whole project is probably going down the shitter right about now, seeing as how the whole Petro thing was Maduro's idea from Day 1, and expressly disowned by congress. I don't think he'll be in power this time next year. It's been interesting to watch.

with russian contractors backing Maduro for safety, and heavy Chinese and Russian  loans, I think Maduro and Petro is not yet gone, my only concern is that in the location of the supposed Oil plant, there is nothing more than hungry/angry people and no oils plants yet  supposed to back Petro token.

Also venezuelan oil is heavy oil mean specific technics are require to make gazoline, and those rafineries  are in united states, also the oil venezuela production fall from 3 millions barrells to 1.4- 0.7 million, as venezuela exchange trade balance is 90% dependant on oil sells, the situation is not going to change without external help.

Finaly even if the oil is there, It will require years to build oil facilities, and who's gonna supply materials ? who's money ?
