I am a merit source. Not this user, this is an Alt I have created to express myself freely.

I became a merit source a little bit to my own surprise, but I accepted the challenge because it is a worthy one. These are some things I want to share with the community, particularly those that are interested in getting merit:

- I have lots of merit to give away. I mean that I have to spend quite a bit of time looking for good posts just to make sure I distribute my monthly quota correctly. I rarely merit more than 3 points.

- I check the users. Before meriting you I take a look at your merit profile. What do you think that would happen if I find that you are trading merit with other users in low quality posts...

a) You join my list of people that will not get merit from me in quite a long time, even if the post is good.
b) You get reported in the threads that deal with these issues.
c) If the abuse is huge and made by senior users, I will try to give negative trust for you and all your alts so you will be effectively banned from campaigns.
d) All of the above.

- I don´t really care if you have a farm, if you want to participate in campaigns and spam the threads, nor if you want to bump useless threads or any similar thing. Do it as freely as you want, that is,  as long as you understand that you won´t get merit unless you do good posts and you and your alts will be at their current rankings forever. I may very well consider your latest posting history before giving you merit. JUST DON´T FARM MERIT.

- Don´t ask for merit. I don´t know about other sources but I will probably put you on a temporal merit ban for that.

- I am human and that means several things:

a) I am not 100% objective. I try to merit as objectively as possible and I am sorry for any good post that I miss or if I consider your post of insufficient quality.
b) You can possibly fool me but you can´t "hack me". I am not an algorithm, there is no recurrent method you can use to get merit from me other that relevant and quality posting, including helping others significantly or making intelligent questions. As human, I am good at detecting patterns.

I can´t check everything, but I do check in depth from time to time. If you are thinking of developing a scheme with many alts to transfer merit know that two things may happen:

1st - You will join my lists of ever-meritless.
2nd - You will have to put so much effort that you would be much better off posting quality.

- I am not free to abuse the system. Merit sources are going to be under scrutiny from the public and possibly from the admins, so not only I don´t want to sell merit nor use merit to my own benefit, I am not free to do so.

I hope this clarifies the situation for many users and I also hope to see less threads about merit and more about cryptocurrencies.

Don´t merit this user please, is my Alt and is here only for my own privacy.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

b) You can possibly fool me but you can´t "hack me". I am not an algorithm, there is no recurrent method you can use to get merit from me other that relevant and quality posting, including helping others significantly or making intelligent questions. As human, I am good at detecting patterns.

O_o .. You probably didn't got my point here. There are some undervalued sections like the mining and pools and to get Merit points there is almost impossible.

theymos is probably trying to find merit sources which frequent all the boards between them, and I would imagine that giving a few months most of the sections will have one or more source looking at that section daily. It might be a problem currently but, once he adds more merit sources that are active in those sections it should be fine.

Why would you make an alt account just to describe your feelings about you being a merit source? I really don't get what you are trying to hide here. Also everything that you wrote down is common sense, nothing about it seems controversial..?

Also, let's take a look at some sentences you wrote down,

You're just making me laugh at this point. If you are really a merit source, everyone should be one. your level of english is equivalent to that of a 6th grader. How can you possibly determine if something is a quality post or not when you can't write normal sentences yourself?

Thank you for helping to recover this forum, and bring it back to the great resource it was a few years ago.

I can understand your problems, and your difficulty in finding reasonable posts to reward. I received some sMerit to give away, and I have had a real struggle to find posts that I felt were deserving of merit. As I only had a few sMerits ( around 80 ), I decided that I would not be able to award them to "average" posts. It takes a lot of time wading through all the threads, and semi-literate replies, and stupid great infographics that get quoted several times make things even harder. I've found that it is much easier if I put bad posters ( by my standards ) on ignore. This had made things a lot more manageable, and I have found some interesting threads and posts whilst I am looking through the boards.

I would like to make a plea to posters. Please think of the readers who scan threads quickly, and who don't have the time to wade through great strings of repeated text. There is no need to quote a 5,000 word post, just copy a relevant line and snip the rest. Please don't quote large images, readers are likely to quit the thread rather than scroll through a load of repeated content. Don't post in capitals - it slows down reading quite a lot, and may result in you being put on ignore. Formatting with massive headings and a couple of screens worth of indifferent text is also likely to get you ignored.

Just remember, the guys who are speed reading are likely to be your best customers. Smiley

Very interesting post. Thanks!

I can't tell if this is for real or someone created new account to receive few merits for it. But ok, lets say this is alt account.

How will you determine if merit was traded or post was or wasn't good enough? Maybe it wasn't good for you but it was good for others, different people share different opinions, while you say you will be objective as much as you can, this doesn't sound like you will be objective at all.

How will you determine if post was traded or if merit was sent for low quality post if it has been sent in local board? Do you speak all language or you will just decide not to merit users who are posting here and in local boards just because you can't understand all languages?

What do you mean you don't care if someone has a farm, merit was introduced because of them, why would you reward farming accounts?

Would you put me on your list of users who will not receive merit from you because of this post?

Why do you publish this ?
You can just go work in the shadow ( give merit for who deserve ) and most people ,  I think already aware on how they able earn merit

There were so many questions about how to get merit. Beginners and help is full of people asking how to get it and full of people telling them to start writing valuable posts.
It makes me feel like people are too lazy to look for answers themselves they want everything to be served on a silver platter. That thread by theymos explains everything in detail, but people don't bother to read it, they prefer to make another "how to get merit" thread.
I guess OP has put so many people on his ban lists that he wanted to try another approach. Maybe that 1% of people who feel like trading merit or meriting yourself with alts is the only way will read this and save themselves from having to start from scratch.

Your intelligence is average, you wisdom non-existent.

You are smart enough to understand that what I say is common sense. That puts you above the many users that are exchanging merit with alts in plain sight.

You don´t understand the point of this post. That puts you below the many other that see it as an advice to the previously mentioned ones.

Please, notice that English in English is written with an starting capital letter. if you are going to criticise my style,  I urge you to improve your writing to avoid looking stupid.

iasenko makes an excellent point, but you shouldn't expect MeritSourceLife to tell you anything about their activity! Shame on you for asking!

MeritSourceLife,

If you have the opportunity to offer feedback/suggestions to Theymos and crew, would you consider recommending that a Merit Source be assigned to the major boards or sub-boards of the Forum?

Doing so will ensure that there can be at least an equal opportunity for posts to be seen by merit sources, regardless of where one posts.

To not do so will birth a new kind of spam as it continues to make Meta and a very few other boards on this forum the hub for posting activity as people believe that's where they need to be to get merit.

Thank you! HabbyB

Reading this now,it really deserves the answer I got. I had a different thing in mind when I wrote it but I admit that it sounds silly.

iasenko makes an excellent point, but you shouldn't expect MeritSourceLife to tell you anything about their activity! Shame on you for asking!

I thought that the Sources are covering specific sections besides the Local. Now I can see that my question can be interpret as attempt to trick the system by posting in eventually mentions sections for higher chance to get merit.
This was not my intention. Just have seen a good posts in some sub-forums that are not so popular.

Ok, noted.

Thanks for that.
