I would like to change the 'reading' word with "studying", if you are serious about some ico or some coin or token which you want to hold for long term you should study the white paper, carefully, see how good is the project, even grammar is important in my view it shows how good they are at introducing their product, it would take some while especially if you are not a native English speaker but the best source of gathering information.

you should not take the opinions of others completely. some information is very important and you should look for it. unless you are ready to lose your money.

There's a lot of white paper out there right now. Some of them are very technical, but what I like is gifcoin and databroker because it has a huge market and the paper is clear.

Yeah whitepaper is a good thing and people should read them before investing in something, there's a lot of important information about the project in whitepaper, i skip the tech part most of the time because I don't understand it that much but the business aspect is enough to know what they are planning to do and how they will do it. That way you can plan how long you will hold the coin.
