Tangram: Technical Introduction
Tangram Update: Launch & Roadmap
December 10th Update: We have been targeting a date of end of December for main-net launch. The software development is right on schedule, and obviously there has been a critical goal for us to reach in order to have the crucial goal met. In the blog post it describes the decision point that has been detailed. https://medium.com/@tangramd/tangram-update-launch-and-roadmap-a0e49dc759550.8 Release - CLi Wallet
Timeline Update
Timeline Update: As you know there are currently 19 days left till we reach the end of September. As per our live roadmap https://trello.com/b/x02K9WgV/tangram-roadmap it mentions that main-net is literally around the corner. As discussed in our Discord channels, pingpong and myself have been discussing the revision of timelines and the remaining backlog items and other items which are considered necessary prior to main-net and it is a matter of workload, which are as follows: 1. CLi Wallet Release(s) 2. Tangram Protocol 3. Code refactoring and hardening 4. Network enhancements 5. White-paper 6. Security Audit & code review 7. Main-net Quick note: Some of you may have remembered Tor was a long-term milestone and as part of Release 0.7, we brought this forward, we’re doing everything we can to get the initial release right. We're currently aiming for end of December. We will be updating the community regarding definitive timeline and provide continuous updates. We understand this may be a disappointing update, and a lot of you are eagerly awaiting for main-net launch. Given the nature of our mission and the unique challenges this brings, we hope to have your unwavered support and understanding. We cannot stress enough that this is an ambitious project which means complexity grows as progress continues. Our primary focus is quality on privacy, anonymity and security, these are to be taken seriously in privacy enabled technology and we don't expect any less by pushing the project over the line. In the grand scheme of things this is a relatively small shift and the results of the time and effort put into Tangram. If anyone has any concerns or questions, please feel free to discuss with me publicly or privately. Token Methodology Overview

Release v0.7 Distributed Networking
Alpha Release 0.6 - Gossip protocol (node to node communication strategy)
Alpha v0.6 Release — Gossip protocol (node to node communication strategy)
Successful integration and layered v0.6 (gossip protocol (node to node communication process) - ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gossip_protocol) meaning it sets up Tangram for v0.7. For those who have access to #alpha-06-testers you'll notice the following have been exposed under "fabric" heading: MembersMembers command outputs the current list of members that an agent knows about, along with their state. StatusStatus command is used to obtain operator debugging information about the running agent. CoordinateCoordinate command is used to obtain the network coordinate of a given node. Write-up of the protocol will be shared once v0.7 is released. Couple of things we're going to touch-base on: 1. Basic concepts of the gossip protocol 2. Scalability of the protocol 3. How nodes communicate and exchange data 4. Failure detection mechanism 5. Security model within the gossip protocol 6. Pros, cons & mitigation strategy Alpha Release 0.5 - Somewhat Homomorphic Encryption
Alpha v0.5 Release — Somewhat Homomorphic Encryption (SWHE)Read more here: https://medium.com/@getsneak/alpha-05-somewhat-homomorphic-encryption-2e5cd00835d2 In short: 1. Multi-layered encryption on balances and transactions 2. Maintaining security, functionality, efficiency & scalability 3. A step closer to a safer network This accomplishment is a major milestone in Tangram’s development and we’d like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all community members. There is no denying that we’re moving forward; and to everybody else, we hope your adventures are as ambitious as ours! N.B this is a late post as there has been some neglect on the bitcointalk side of things. Alpha Release 0.4.2 - Secret Sharing, Web Wallet & Testnet Faucet Distribution
Alpha Release 0.4.1 - DAG & Code enhancements
Update on Tangram: 0.4.1 has been released, so what's new? 1. Wallets will be saved (temporary). So remember your id and password 2. Separate blockchain for accounts (wallets). 3. Information on data store size in bytes. - See below 4. Get all blocks pulls blocks from available accounts. 5. Blockchain REST end-point renamed to Explorer. 6. Transaction speed enhancements. With 1204 block length @ 857.473KB and a lot of cleaning and sweeping of the code and refactoring. Join our Discord Community if you haven't already :-) https://discord.gg/d9HsHhAlpha Release 0.4 - Universal Blocks
Alpha Release 0.4We've just released Universal Blocks. We would like to run tests and also identify if there are any unforeseen bugs. For those who do not have access to the alpha-channel will be posting 2 images (see below) that allows you to visibly notice a difference in the Tangram architecture. Not only does this allow for faster transactions / communication, it gives Tangram scalability (storage & size) and speed which increases the overall performance for future releases and cryptography & technology implementations. Things to note: 1. We no longer have regular addresses - which means Stealth addresses are compulsory 2. Stealth Addresses can only be rewarded once (for Alpha testers - so make sure you reward yourself with enough SNKs) Happy week! :rocket: Vs. Full Tangram Manifesto can be found here - https://medium.com/@info_54829/a-sneak-manifesto-163eb38e00eaSecret Tangram ManifestoThings weren’t always this way. It began so gradually, at first, we barely knew it was happening. As it took off, it kept us distracted with digital wonders we could never have imagined, offered to us before we ever realized what we were missing, and all for “free”. By the time it had pervaded every corner of our lives, we had all but forgotten it was there. Yes, once and a while it misses the mark, or in its eagerness to please, shows us too soon the very thing we mentioned to a friend but a minute ago, and we wince a bit, or shiver, before moving on. And every year, every hour, it comes to know us a little better, learning from its mistakes, until it fades into the background, out of sight and out of mind. But it’s always there, and what it knows of us we have no means to learn, nor how it came to know these things, nor what about it us it has bought or sold, nor whom it serves. We live in a world of pervasive sensors, mobile devices, and digital services that capture vast amounts of data about us every minute of our lives. Fed to an army of proprietary and often biased algorithms that we have no legal right to examine, our data may be used to determine whether we get a loan, a job, a lease or a medical procedure. It has become the greatest accelerator of income inequality the world has ever seen, lining the pockets of the wealthy with untold riches, and creating new digital divides. Hacks and leaks of our personal information stolen from ill-defended systems have become so commonplace that they no longer cause alarm, and seldom are there consequences for the companies responsible. We have come to accept that governments record and mine every conversation, every search query, every website we visit, and every purchase we make, and we console ourselves with the benefits. Is it to prevent a catastrophe, or to spot dissent? Everything is so convenient now, and how reassuring it is to watch the evening news, where for every successful act of terror, half a dozen dreadful plots are foiled in the nick of time, forces descending upon the would-be perpetrators in the wee hours of the morning, with barely a shot fired. Political leaders remind us that dangerous times require extraordinary measures, and a new social contract. Privacy is a privilege for loyal citizens, and it’s always conditional. Anonymity is a mask for criminals. Encryption must have back doors. No. Not on our watch. Privacy matters. Privacy is our control over other people’s access to information about us. It is part of human nature. It is an innate, instinctive ability. Even before we learn to speak, we discover our power to choose when to share our feelings with others. Privacy is no mere privilege, but a fundamental right. For good reason is privacy enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: it is both the means of our liberty, and the price we pay for our liberty. Anonymity matters. Anonymity depends on our ability to conceal our identity from others. Without it, democracy cannot exist. Information is power, and a government that knows everything that it citizens say and do even within their homes has the power to hold them accountable to government, rather them being accountable to them. In a world of vast information asymmetries, the public mask of anonymity is the last recourse of the whistleblower, and the greatest force for accountability that an individual may wield against the might of a corporation flush with ill-gotten gains or a corrupt government that no longer represents those it was created to serve. Time, however, is not on our side, for an entire generation has grown up with a sense that the battle is already lost. More and more we hear attempts to rationalize it: “Why do I care what they know — I have nothing to hide,” or helplessness: “I gave up worrying long ago — what can I do about it?” Many have come to believe that privacy is dead, an antiquated notion no longer meaningful in the modern world. Some may choose to hope and wait for courageous politicians and conscientious business leaders to emerge and rein in the synergistic forces of government surveillance and surveillance capitalism before they completely erode the very foundations of freedom, dignity, and the rule of law. Some, however, may not. Enough is enough. About TangramTangram was created with a singular vision: to inspire, mobilize and empower a new generation of cypherpunks to rise up, take matters into their own hands, and reclaim the right to privacy while there is still time. It is a time for urgent action. Acts of privacy. Acts of cryptography. Acts of code. Our mission is to create the most private distributed ledger technology the world has ever seen, one that is provably impervious to re-identification attacks. It must be fast, feeless, and private. Tangram will function as a true cryptocurrency, while supporting other capabilities such as smart contracts, data storage, and communications. Tangram is a startup focused on cutting-edge engineering, compelling user experiences, irresistible branding, and a vibrant community, all built from scratch. Tangram will be the end-to-end solution you know you can trust to safeguard your identity, your data, your business, and your rights in a world of prying eyes. Privacy by Design. To get there, we need people everywhere who share our values and are committed to our proactive defense of the right to privacy to get involved. Join us, and let’s work together to create a safer, more just, and more prosperous future for all. Alpha 0.3 Release
Hello everyone,
Currently we're sitting on Alpha 0.3 which has the following updates:
1. Stealth Addresses 2. Sealed Boxes
After a couple of bug fixes and some testing we can now say that amounts (balance & transactions) are not visible.
The biggest update to 0.3 is sealed boxes and what this means... you're now able to transact anonymously!
Every transaction or message is encrypted using ephemeral key pair, whose secret part is destroyed right after the encryption process.
Happy happy! Next up... Ring Sigs.
Roadmap Released!
"Tangram Roadmap" - https://trello.com/b/x02K9WgV Nothing fancy, something simple. We're moving forward and growing fast. We've launched our first Alpha in less than 3 weeks and managed to start a small community, nonetheless, we believe the community we have right now is something great. The future is looking promising not only for the mooners and hodlers, but for the people who are looking for something a little different in the world (we will try), from a little infant to something a little larger, this kid is going to kick some ass! So, have a read, ask some questions, start a conversation. We're glad to be here with you and looking forward to the ambitious ride ahead. Keep up to date on our Discord - https://discord.gg/nygadJ9See you guys. Alpha 0.2 - Stealth Addresses Added!
Hey all, Update: We've just released "stealth addresses" into Alpha Release v0.2. If you're interested in finding out more, join us on our Discord - https://discord.gg/nygadJ9We're accepting Alpha testers there, best way to stay updated. Thanks, Tangram Alpha 0.2 Privacy Updates - Coming soon!
Quick update on the progress that has been made this week. 1. Transferring funds will have a stealth option Couple of things that has been considered: Wallet traceability has three constraints, transactions, amounts and addresses. The other constraint is user usage i.e user tags his/her identity to the address. SO, how do we hide or create anonymity? Mwahaha... Its on its way.. (pingpong has gone mad) 2. curveZMQ is partially in.. We just can't use or see it while testing using the Swagger API explorer. Once pingpong has got the rest end-point to work with ring and zero proof.. He will need to add more cryptography algos which will obfuscate the transaction block. Plus adding something that he thinks is going to blow your mind. So, after some deliberation... stealth payments are in now modifying the transactions lookup and then verify that its all working. Stealth payments must protect both sender and recipient, which the norm only protects the recipient. Another implementation on transaction values will feature range proofs!!! Interested in range proof/ Take a look here - https://www.ingwb.com/themes/blockchain-articles/ing-launches-major-addition-to-blockchain-technology3. Modified transaction to include stealth payment.. Transaction are verified. Now to take ownership. Expect something soon...To be continued... Alpha 0.1 Test Updates
Hey guys, Quick update on the progress of Tangram Alpha Release 0.1. Firstly we want to thank all the community members and Alpha testers who have tremendously helped and supported us in stress testing and finding bugs. Here are the details to the first stress test: We ran one node with the following specs: Server specs: CentOS 7, 1GB ram and 1 vCPU.. cheap and nasty.. Made 132.0 transactions in 69 seconds. TPS = 1.9130434782608696 Total time needed (including HTTP POST from PC): 92sec. (created 12 Wallets) Details can be found here: Detailed results: https://pastebin.com/iHGMMxBrBugs (which have been fixed): Sending - (minus) coins gives you coins, this has been - Resolved Sending ZERO coins to a wallet does a SEND - Resolved Enhancements: Prefix (snk_address) - Added We will be updating as we go. Thanks all for the support. Regards, Tangram Alpha 0.1 Release
Alright guys, some of you may of heard that we have an announcement planned for today. As you are busy reading this, you can see that's true. So, let's get down to the nitty gritty. Alpha Release 0.1 What does this mean?
We will run this post for 5 days (until 9th March 2018) and acceptance of testers will be closed. We will notify testers on testing day to please join our Discord so we can communicate the necessary. How will this testing take place?
We’re using Swagger API Explorer (CLICK ME) for our “GUI”. That’s important because you’ll need some experience in REST APIs (its simple, POST, PUT & GET calls), however, we’ll be creating a user manual on our WIKI so you can see the commands in order to play with your wallets (transactions etc…), so complete technical experience is not a must. Further details on how you will share your wallet address amongst the testers will be made clear closer to the time. Specifics of the release:
Only 1 node will be running, this because we are starting to benchmark the bare minimum speed of the transactions with everything stripped down to test one the use cases of Tangram(value transfer). What’s important to note? In order to clearly define expectations we’re outlining what you will be able to do and what you won't be able to do. Here are the details: What does this include?
Create Wallet Create addresses, each wallet can have multiple addresses Create tokens Send transactions Receive transactions Retrieve blocks What this release does not include:
GUI Encryption Privacy Zero-knowledge Proof of Work Security When will testing begin? Fri (09 March) / Sat (10 March) Will run indefinitely Once you've replied within this thread, please join our || Discord!! We believe that there is a fundamental problem in today's financial institutions, they’re slow and cumbersome which is rooted from the outdated technology. We want to focus on building a new decentralised financial institution as this has a massive impact on people's everyday lives from something as simple as a banking account to loans, everyday use such as send limits and freezing of accounts. We care deeply about the privacy of individuals and this is something that we believe should be a primary focus moving forward in the world with decentralisation within the financial institutions. We take people’s well-being seriously and take pride if we can achieve that by giving them a new way to secure, store, manage and keep their anonymity through privacy. We want to contribute to your financial well-being and minimize the gap between your privacy and financial status. In a world where data can easily be monetized and shared across the world in a matter of seconds, its vital that there is a balance of privacy in technology. Personal information (transactions, balance, name, surname & email address) is easily sold by banks to 3rd parties in order to collect data to sell & store for future use. Individuals have are entitled to the highest form of privacy, this isn’t really the case as individuals have no idea how private & secure their personal and financial information is (generally). The current / existing financial institution business model is due an overhaul. With decentralised technology the premise is there however, there will be companies and individuals (not anymore limited to financial institutions) who WILL implement a dragnet surveillance and other mining methodologies of your wallets / addresses, transactions, dates and links between wallets and services, which will be monetized and used for further gains of the imagination.
