Literally impossible with configuration, even if you disable the service, disable it in group policy editor and nuke it in the registry, delete update specific system files, whatever, win 10 will still update.

The only way I've found to disable it for good is to block all IP's in the router except for the IP range of the mining pools I'm using. At first I tried blacklisting microsoft specific IP ranges but new ones just keep popping up, its fucking creepy how much they wanna be able to remotely control your computer.

Forget about trying to get rid of the Windows Update Assistant app, it will keep installing itself and running.  Microsoft is not playing around with the updates.  I am going to try the Group Policy edit trick that was posted here.  I am pretty sure that should do the trick.

I've already told you guys, the only real solution is to disable it in group policy, I don't understand how's that not working for some of you...

That is problem of mining industry in Windows update systems.the computer are mining itself an windows operating systems. With earlier versions of Windows you could simply set “Never check for updates”, or perhaps “Check for updates but let me choose…”, hit OK and that was that, Windows would obey your wishes. Windows 10 is not so easily dissuaded however, so this guide is going to cover one way of minimizing these annoyances and will help prevent the worst mining offenses such as updating your video drivers behind your back or rebooting your rigs at random times.the windows are computer programming system of mining process.

Those tricks on Google don't work for all Windows versions.

I've tried all tricks:
- Changes in the registry
- Changes in the services
- Changes in the policies
- ...

Nothing seemed to work. I took the easy way out and am now using this:
http://www.site2unblock.com/win-updates-disabler/

Works like a charm.

I'm a IT student in college: I know my way around policies, services and the registry. I tried it, it doesn't work on every Windows version. Really, it doesn't.

I see most of the people using the Linux platform only mining because there would not be any error passing on mining process. If you run the miner software on Windows like Awesome miner or something.
In some week of time when the you restart the mining machine it will not work correct, some cards may not work or hash rate will be reduced. These issues will be repeatedly occur on using the windows.

I installed this program on januari 9th. Haven't had a single update yet.

I have the luxury of checking my rig multiple times every hour - My miner software does NOT start automatically at boot so I would have noticed if my system restarts.

I found a way to keep updates from starting on another website, and so far so good.  The service has not been able to start back up since.

Go to the windows update service in services.msc .

Change the account to guest on the logon tab, and delete the password ( make it blank ).

Stop the service, and try to restart it.  It should generate an error.  G2G.

You can change to disabled, but it will switch back from it at some point.
You will now receive a periodic error in your Event Log, but the service should not start back up.

The very first reply is good enough to disable Windows update.
The problem with the peeps is, they forgot to restart windows (Via start menu, not the hardware restart button) or
they didn't shutdown/restart it before the next scheduled update which re-enables the non-carried-out settings.

Alternatively, after setting Windows Update as "disabled" on the Services, hit "Stop Service" or force stop the Windows Update service that still running on the task manager services tab.

Use windows 10 build 1703 (however you will be limited to max 8 cards/rig) and set all the gpedit stuff. Zero updates in 1 year+.
Win 10 1709 can't be stopped from updating, at least in my own dealings with it.

getting rid windows update isnt that hard , but you should also cleanup scheduled tasks not only for windows update but for update orchestration , because retarded M$ will turn all update services back on , also eventually force you to upgrade win10 version to latest via scheduled tasks, which you cant disable even if you are local admin.

trick is rather trivial , use Psexec from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/pstools , lauch task scheduler via Psexec (psexec -i -d -s mmc taskschd.msc) , take ownership and get rid of Update Orchestration and Windows Update scheduled tasks, then disable WU services.
This will save you from forced version update check and installation and wont turn on windows update services and recreate scheduled tasks.
