Maybe he's afraid that one day someone might hunt him if they figured out his home address and banging to their front door(basically the government authority) or someone that is greedy enough to hunt him. Well, this is just my speculative view as i believe that the truth will always set it free but too many scenarios that i am thinking of why would he suddenly returns it, if the news is true.

Not sure about that, as you can see there were some scam projects just like ebitz opair and flex coin which stolen more than 25 million dollars. And they were never getting tracked by the way.
To track the hackers it not easy. The fact that with the encryption of SHA and it makes crypto becomes more difficult to be tracked. I just gonna see where that will be going on.

Most likely, high-level hackers have some notions of honor.
If you can steal a million dollars from someone else's wallet at any time, then you can afford to return some of the funds to create a positive image.

It's not yet confirmed; this is pretty weird to see someone that already done with a lot of effort to stole the funds and then he was only keeping it and returning it to the owner. Or this is just another way to make another sensation to the public to raise awareness and attention.

There is no Txid to proves it. And then this could be another manipulation even this news has come from the reliable media.
