Yeah, any statement should be backed with proofs. But I'm really surprised that there are many cases when hackers return stolen crypto... I'm glad that there are a lot of kind and honest people but I wonder what drive them to do it?

I have been read this news on some blog crypto webs, but i don't really fully trust this because it comes from some not popular blog's source. In addition, I will not believe that any kind hacker will return such huge money about $17M to the place where it has been stolen.

Fake news? If ever this is for real this might be the biggest miracle that happens in cryptocurrency world. Can you imagine that "a certain hacker returns a million of dollars"? I don't think so. Now i'm asking the TS, would you please back up your statement with a trusted site that we could read.

Really? Can you provide the source of this news? If this news is real, I think it's really terrible. There are a lot of ways to keep crypto safe but people still too careless and give hackers chance to hack their cryptocurrency easily . For me, I often keep all important information related to my cryptocurrency in another clear computer.

It looks like an inside job, How the address can be replaced with fake address easily. It looks like that just another inside job to make the people are so noisy with that hack case. That's pretty odd to see hacker with 17 million dollars are returning the amount to the coindash team without any reason.

Could also be a cover though... CoinDash could be stealing ETH from others and disguising it as "Hacker returns ETH", instead of blatantly calling it "CoinDash steals ETH". If the story is true, it's definitely a nice hacker! Worthy to mention though, is that is mentioned in the article that Cybersecurity forces are watching his address and attempting to track him down. It could be possible that he hopes to do a trade: He gives some ETH and goes free? Fake news? If ever this is for real this might be the biggest miracle that happens in cryptocurrency world. Can you imagine that "a certain hacker returns a million of dollars"? I don't think so. Now i'm asking the TS, would you please back up your statement with a trusted site that we could read.
According to these stories, the hacker would've kept MILLIONS of dollars worth of Ethereum... I mean... A couple million dollars would already buy you anything you want... So he might want to get the authorities off his ass by paying this. Article I got my intel from: https://cryptodaily.co.uk/2018/02/hacker-returns-stolen-ether/Not sure if it's a true story, though. Let's wait for confirmation :-)

Thanks for sharing the source. As the other users i was thinking this was a fake new because just can't find the source but now looks legit. This is a weird act. Is hard to find honest people now days and this can mean only two things: 1.- The hacker did it for fun, he was a white hat hacker, and for sure he helps to fix the vulnerability. 2.- The hacker realized there was a problem with his perfect hack, and he decided to give the money back before hit jail. Any way, he did it and was an honest act. We need more people like him in the world!

1.- The hacker did it for fun, he was a white hat hacker, and for sure he helps to fix the vulnerability. I think that's the real reason he got the Ethereum back. If nothing threatened him, he'd have kept it all to himself.

It is quite shocking and impractical for a hacker to return that big of an amount. There must be a very very very good or life threatening reason for him to do that. I mean, why go through all the troubles of stealing this amount and then just suddenly return it? It just doesn't make sense! Unless this person is already rich and would just like to make a point that it is possible to steal people's money/alts/coins in this system. If this news is true, then he had certainly made his point.

the hacker is confused, for what that much money he keeps. whereas we all know. that this is decentralized all connected transactions form a chain so tracking will be easy when the coins are exchanged

Now this is unlikely. If I were this person, why would I, in my right sense, give back what I worked hard for. Yes, I got the money by stealing it. But that’s the point, I’m a crook! I steal stuff! Now why the change of heart, right? I’m pretty sure there is a strong reason behind this gesture and it most probably is "underground."

Yeah I think so, but hackers can finds ways to do that. Because if they are not confident enough they will not hack that huge amount. This might be true but again never believe on this unless there a final news coming from the exchanges or what who receive that amount.

Hackers really dont returning any hacked informations,it might be an inside job and the people behind the hack were tracked by the coindash so the hacker was forced to sent it back to coindash.Inside job will be morelikely in this case, guiltiness would be the reason why he did really return the hacked ethereums from the coinsdash.

Might be an inside job and the coindash has tracked the hacker so that person was forced to send it back because his life would be in danger,or he is just testing the vulnerabilities of coindash,or he is just trippin around because he want to try if he can find a way to steal those ethereum, but this is really something new, very unusual because if you steal that amount of ethereum you could live and buy anything you want.

no one will trust you if you do not give a site or video that is clear because many people do not believe in all that people make on the internet. if I do not believe hackers want to return that much money because he will be rich if not return it. if true hackers want to return the money as much as $ 17 m from the results stolen, the possibility of hackers want to become ordinary people or good people.

Yeah, any statement should be backed with proofs. But I'm really surprised that there are many cases when hackers return stolen crypto... I'm glad that there are a lot of kind and honest people but I wonder what drive them to do it? Maybe he's afraid that one day someone might hunt him if they figured out his home address and banging to their front door(basically the government authority) or someone that is greedy enough to hunt him. Well, this is just my speculative view as i believe that the truth will always set it free but too many scenarios that i am thinking of why would he suddenly returns it, if the news is true. Well, i can't find the valid reason if someone would just make a fake news.

Not sure about that, as you can see there were some scam projects just like ebitz opair and flex coin which stolen more than 25 million dollars. And they were never getting tracked by the way. To track the hackers it not easy. The fact that with the encryption of SHA and it makes crypto becomes more difficult to be tracked. I just gonna see where that will be going on.

If you can steal a million dollars from someone else's wallet at any time, then you can afford to return some of the funds to create a positive image.

This is a great news. I think the hacker just want the exchanger to know that there is a loophole in their system. I advice them to pay attention to their security.

In a shocking turn of events, an anonymous hacker has once again returned stolen ETH tokens to CoinDash – a tool aiming to help users manage, track, analyze, and “get a bird’s eye view” of their crypto assets.
Some hackers specifically hack for experiments, but whether it turns out, such as a security check. But unfortunately there are not many, many simply profit from us using impunity.

There are very few such "knights" at the moment. Most people use their hacking skills for profit, they just crack other people's wallets using various known vulnerabilities and receive money. Such happy stories are now very rare.

is there any proof of this news you shared? it seems very interesting, someone refuses to be rich, does the hacker also have fear? are transactions on the Ethereum network traceable?

This is April fool's day news! There's always a lot of fake news out there today!
The hacker's attack is for the money, after getting the money to return the money, what is the hacker's thinking?

If this news is true then I think its a very good news. Can you provide the source of this news so we can see if the news is correct or not? I think there should be some way to trace these hackers and caught them because these kinds of cases are growing daily.

I do not believe in this story. Why did the hacker wait more than a year? Why just now he decided to return the money? This news looks like a fake.

It's not yet confirmed; this is pretty weird to see someone that already done with a lot of effort to stole the funds and then he was only keeping it and returning it to the owner. Or this is just another way to make another sensation to the public to raise awareness and attention. There is no Txid to proves it. And then this could be another manipulation even this news has come from the reliable media.

Heartless set of human. They is no joy on them, even ready to collect more, if the ETH wallet are still receiving fund or coins, still ready to collect. That is why blockchain wallet (btc) is still the best, because is well secured and back off with email and login private key can be changed any time.

Why they stole if they had to return ? I always find these cases suspicious: 1) I think exchanges may be involved in this. This might be done to get in news and it is sad to see businesses using these cheap tactics to attract more customers. 2) Some possibility is that the hacker was a security researcher and did this to demonstrate the security vulnerability on the site. This is why all exchanges should have a bounty program to reward security researchers. For instance, coinbase has a program on hackerone for this.

A little-known hacker wants to get some glory and for this he returns money, it's really worthy. It shows that there is a vulnerability of theft of funds. I believe that every large company should have a system of rewards for searching for vulnerabilities in the system.
