I was checking my backup options tonight and with my new ASIC hardware I found my solo option could not provide work fast enough. My hashrate was more then cut in half. How do I best address this in case of the...well worst case. FYI, I run a full node 24/7 with 80+ connections in support of Bitcoin.

When I solo mine my hashrate is cut in half by bitcoind. How do I fix this?

What's your internet connection speed? Maybe your bandwidth cannot handle the throughput.

You mean, the last option of a failover setup?
I have the impression that if you use cgminer and load-balance with a pool (use a small quota), that actually helps your solo mining, being helped by a connection via stratum. cgminer gets vital information and learns quickly when a new block was detected.

I think that might be the right track but it does work if you have a getwork server as an option via a pool. Do any bitcoin pools still have getwork? I know from playing with some altcoins.

Quad core Intel at 4.5. How about your disk, SSD or HDD? A fragmented or for other reason slow hard disk can easily slow bitcoind down. Samsung 840 pro 512 GB SSD. Dedicated to running a full bitcoin node 24/7. |

Bitcoind solo can't keep up with ASIC hashrates, struggling beyond 5GH even on a powerful PC. Install pool software if you want more than that.

You need to connect your miners to a stratum proxy that will then connect to bitcoind. |

OK, started digging in and I found the slush stratum proxy. Has anyone worked to set this up for solo mining and care to share? I have very little mining power (but enough to be limited by bitcoind), but as you can see I run a full node and wish to support the network. Thus, I want the solo mining to work at full capacity.
I appreciate anyone whom takes the time to assist!

Your still not solo mining? I'm throwing 19 to 20Ghs at Bitcoin-QT ver .85 and it's actually working pretty good. Someone made a suggestion of increasing the queue to stage more work and that helps as well. How much hash rate are you using? Earlier versions of Bitcoin-QT didn't work well at all for solo mining. When you say 60 do you mean 60Ghs? Right now I'm solo mining with 38 BE's and getting around 12Ghs. I guess I can't speak to 60 to 100Ghs as I don't have that much hash rate. But I did increase the Queue to 60 in the CGMiner UI and that does seem to help keep my BE's busy most of the time. It will leak shares to other pools in my list on block changes but the rest of the time they seem to keep really busy. I kind of refuse to use pool software to do this task. But the Stratum proxy may be something I may look at in the future. But so far Bitcoin-QT .85 seems to be working fairly well with the 12 to 19Ghs I have. Sam |
