Hey Joe, I'm late again and sorry for that.
I have selected this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3210982.msg33357374#msg33357374 of bitmover and sent him 3 merits as promised.
I mean, your in-depth research over users' quality and how you give that detailed explanation to each user as to how and what they did and why/not they were chosen is exceptional. Would like to reserve 2 merits for this week for Place 2. Please update the OP with the same. Smiley

@nullius,
Keep making more high quality posts as you have become the best example to those who really need to know what quality is expected here.
Your posts and the theory in them, mind blowing dude! Hats off to you.

That breakdown is really good and will especially be helpful to those users to work out how to get better and compare themselves to other users in this campaign.
You've clearly put a lot of effort into this Joe so kudos for that!

Although im not currently part of this challenge, i'd like to add one merit donation to the 4th place. Let me know if you accept this, and i'll save them.

Edit: I meant that i'd like to give the merit forvthe same requirements as LoyceV, so low ranked members have a chance too for merit Smiley

Awesome, this is very noble of you. I've merited you for the simple fact that even though you have a right to be frustrated for the last round of this challenge, you have still shown that you care about the intent behind it. To be clear, do the same conditions apply as @LoyceV's conditions? That your merit is only to go towards a Newbie or Jr. Member?

Cheers!

Hi Joe,

I updated my application. I didn't see that you needed the Google Spreadsheet form until now. I'm not sure if that rule changed happened before/after the deadline had passed... Am I still in this round?

It has been announced multiple times with plenty of notice that we were moving over to the forms in order to process applications. I will add you to Round 4, but in the future, please check back in this thread every so often, or at the very least, once a week! Thanks

Good day! I was wondering if it is available to change the bitcoin address.  Can I change my bitcoin address because my current bitcoin address that on the spreadsheet have hacked. Kindly change to
Code:
3D6sJLYARonxcb8i1Zs7eoxrKNGPvdrjpA

Done

The scoring formula is just a weighted average based on the 4 criteria’s that I grade when reviewing users’s posts

I don't mean to put you on the spot by any means, but are the criteria something you are willing to make public, or at the very least share with me in confidence? I'm very interested in hearing what these are. I'm not sure if you are open to negotiation on these criteria in the hopes to improve them; not that there is anything wrong with them, but there is always room for improvement. I was unaware that you had official criteria, and I feel like they may assist me in meriting posts, or figuring out which deserve it.

I have the major criteria on the spreadsheets in the top right corner, but those are just high-level that don't go into too much detail. I'm mainly looking for the users' ability to stay on topic while being contributive as heavily weighted scores, while the ability to speak proper English is a lower-weighted score. Forum meta (quotes, wall texts, references, links) is a small factor into the overall score, as is the forum spread (posting in multiple sections throughout the forums). I also adjust scores based on the post placement by the participants: If a participant is mainly posting in megathreads or threads (in themselves) that do not provide substance to the forums (generally in Bitcoin/Altcoin Discussion or Speculation), the user gets penalized for it. If it's obvious that a user feels more comfortable in a few subcategories and displays the ability to portray their expertise in a few select subs, they won't get penalized too much for not visiting a good spread of subs.

When I choose posts that I deem to be meritorious, I select posts that I feel are contributive to (a) the topic, (b) the forums, (c) the Bitcoin/crypto industry and/or (d) the user has put a good amount of above-average thought into the post.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions!

Would like to reserve 2 merits for this week for Place 2. Please update the OP with the same. Smiley

Done, thank you!

Hey Joe,

I have been following this thread from the time you started it and I am finding a place for my smerits to sit around. I started a service for giving out merits for quality posts, but it all went in vain when spammers took over my thread and started requesting merit for shit posts. Hence I locked the thread and was thinking around how to spend these merits. I am not good in judging the post quality. So I would like to award 2 merits per week for 2 quality posts made by a newbie wearing your signature.

Currently I have 15 smerits with me which can be distributed in 7 rounds. If I receive enough merits in the coming weeks and if my current smerits raises more than 15 I would be sharing with the winners of this challenge after the aforementioned 7 rounds. I can assure you that I won't be giving even a single merit outside this challenge and I would donate all my smerits to this challenge.

If in rare cases, I didn't receive a single merit in the course of 7 weeks for the posts I make, I would stop meriting people and leaving this challenge. If you approve this, I would start my journey along with you and other people for making this forum clean and free from spams. Sharing is Caring Smiley

Edit 1 :

Alternatively, I can make you a merit sponsor for the following 7 rounds and you can choose to wait until the winners have been announced before meriting the posts of your choice; similar to the manner of current merit sponsors.
Sorry for being late in replying to this Joe, I currently have 16 smerits which can be distributed in 8 rounds. Can you make the week count as 8? Yes there has been great content so far produced by the newbies. Similar to the Chipmixer "Badge of Honor", I am sure the members who are participating in Joe's Signatureless Challenge will be making top quality posts.

Let me know if you'd like to become a sponsor, and for which placement of winners. I can create a separate category for you, such as a bonus prize only eligible to newbies. Does this work?
Yes, a bonus prize category will work for giving away merits. Do you mean Cash Sponsor?

I love the initiatives that other members have shown due to this challenge... It really is bringing out the cream of the crop on the forums, and you're a prime example of that.

If you review the spreadsheet at any time, you'll see that there is a section called "Meritorious Posts of the Week" for each of the rounds that have passed. These posts are hand-picked by me when I review the participants' posts for the week (every Sunday). You are more than welcome to check out some of the posts that I find to be meritorious and award them individually.

Alternatively, I can make you a merit sponsor for the following 7 rounds and you can choose to wait until the winners have been announced before meriting the posts of your choice; similar to the manner of current merit sponsors. This challenge hasn't had any difficulties producing great content by Newbies thus far, so I'm anticipating that it will be easy for you to find two posts per week by a newbie that would qualify for your merits.

Thanks for stepping up, and I'm grateful that you took the time to review this thread and its participants from the beginning. Let me know if you'd like to become a sponsor, and for which placement of winners. I can create a separate category for you, such as a bonus prize only eligible to newbies. Does this work?

Just under 24 hours remain for this round. Good luck to all participants!

Fair warning: I am feeding over 100 people tomorrow for Easter supper at the local food bank, which I am a board member of. There is a slight possibility that the winner of Round 4 will not be announced until the wee hours of Monday morning. Please be patient with me, as real life always comes first, especially when it comes to local underprivileged families.

Round 5 applications are open!
Make sure to fill out your application for Round 5 by clicking here: https://goo.gl/forms/Ae7BYTy0GilcvFyF2 (remember to apply for every week that you'd like to participate). Applications will be accepted until 9PM (GMT -6) on Monday, April 2.

We have now made it a full month into this challenge, and I don't anticipate that it will end anytime soon. We have plenty of Bitcoin in the escrow (Escrow Address: 37ZhBrGgw6BSghMQnPi4ixdmRBLxBTAXCf [current balance: "Balance loading..."] (view on Blockchain) and plenty of merit sponsors. So keep on keeping on, and thanks to all the participants and supporters of this challenge. You guys are amazing.

Thanks for the concern!  Cheesy All's well, just one of those days you're busier than usual because of some or the other commitments and projects (arguably I could have accessed BTT on mobile though being exhausted combined with the fact I was too lazy to solve captcha for the over 20 minutes thanks to Google's love for Tor didn't help)

I just got home, and it's 11PM. I'm going to choose the winner in the morning, but I just want to announce that

Round 5 has officially begun (as of 3 hours ago)

I'll also update the spreadsheet in the morning. I am going to critique a few participants' posts tonight, so I'm turning off the spreadsheet visibility until the winner is announced. Please do not be alarmed if you cannot access it tonight.

Thanks for your patience, guys, and please note that this won't be a regular thing.

Happy Easter, everyone, and see you tomorrow morning!

You  have a good and fair competition for all members  to join. This will help our forum better and low rank members have a chance to rank up. In reality that not too much high rank members are willing to give out their merits, your competition is a bright star. I do not say empty words, i have proof of some members with Sr.Member rank and above which never give out any merit since Merit system released, but they are active on our forum everyday. A dark side of Merit system, that's why low rank member find it's so hard to rank up.

The people you have listed have not earned a single merit since the new system was introduced so they are pretty bad examples. When the forum introduced the merit system, they assigned enough merit for everyone to keep their original rank. All 4 of the people you listed got their merit this way and probably don't have any sMerit to give out as they didn't receive any merit in the first place.

I missed the deadline for this week. I will look for a common signature campaign this week (hard to find a good one with slots left).

I hope to come back the next week. Thank you everyone =D

I hadn't checked what time this round was set to end until right now and for some reason I kept thinking I missed the winners and failed to fulfill my obligations. Looking forward to seeing the winners.  I like the criteria you use to rate the posts.

Did I send bitmover their merit prize? Now that I'm thinking about it.. I feel like I missed that.

After checking, I never sent ole' bitmover their merit prize and that is my mistake. I gave +1 merit to their post : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3178131.msg32900782#msg32900782

After checking further, I never sent Blue Tyrant their +3 for their placement either. I found some good posts, but I threw the merit on this post : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3133667.msg33122304#msg33122304

It seems like I've fulfilled all my "obligations" up to this point, please let me know if I'm behind in anyway. I don't want to blindly throw around my merit, but I've had a chance to review their posts and I support the merit they've been given from all over the forum. The participants here are earning merit at a good pace, not sure how much nullius is skewing the data, regardless it is impressive. Giving some pointers on the posts is solid as well, it's going to go a long way towards developing better posting habits.

This round really surprised me. To be honest, it started with me grading a bunch of shitposters and disqualified participants, but it got better and better as I moved down the sheet. The difference in scores between 1st and 2nd place is a mere 0.13 points (out of a possible 10). You guys continue to impress me; keep it up!!! And congratulations to the winners!

Round 4 Merit Stats: This round, a total of 117 Merits were earned by 12 participants, for an overall average of 9.75 Merits earned from those participants. Great job!

Round 4: Notes & Critique

Here are my notes for all of the participants. Please remember that this is my personal opinion, and in no way reflect the views of the moderators, staff, or any other members of this forum. If you don't like it, start your own challenge. These notes can also be seen on the spreadsheet.

butka: Look at you! Generating private keys by hand... Your dedication to Bitcoin has REALLY shown through this round, and I'm glad that this forum has a member like you. You've asked all the right questions (designed so that the answers that others leave will help everyone reading, not just you), posted some of your findings and research, provided guides for newbies, and have received criticism very well for your posts. I'm going to brief in stating that you are the model participant of this challenge. The only criticism I have for you is to be careful not to partake in megathreads ("Do you trade crypto?"), as they are designed solely to produce spam for the purpose of ranking up member accounts and activity. I didn't mark you down too much for your post there, as you obviously posted before it became multiple pages, but once you spend some more time here on the forums, it'll become easier to see which topics are posted for the sole purpose of spamming the boards. GREAT job this week!

bitmover: Another SOLID week for you. First of all, enjoy your journey into your new sig campaign; bustadice is lucky to have you. I hope you can visit us again in the future. You have some great findings from this week, and I consider you to be a great contributing member to the forums. From privacy to guides, this week shows that you can consistently post great content and be relevant to the areas in which you post in. Great job!

vlad230: You have definitely spent a lot of time on the forums this week, and I applaud that! From offering your service of looking out for thoughtful members to suggesting new features for the forum, it's apparent that you've taken a genuine interest in the BCT forums. You've been very helpful this week, and I look forward to seeing more of your posts in the future.

flip4flop: While I appreciate that you've branched out of your "comfort zone" of Altcoin Mining boards on the forum, please be careful not to contribute to megathreads with dozens of pages of answers before you. Even if your reply is genuine, chances are that none of the thousands of participants of that thread will every take the time to revisit the thread, especially not the OP. Your post ability is great, but this week, I find that your posts lack overall quality compared to previous weeks. Maybe because you've been busy? I would propose that if it's too difficult to start branching out to other boards, just focus on the ones you're comfortable in. Overall, good posts, but I know you can do better!

shahzadafzal: Good posts! It's obvious that English is not your first language, but you do a great job with portraying your message without any hinderances due to language barriers. It shows that you have done a good amount of research for many of your posts, which is a huge plus. You've chosen decent topics to post in, and I'm glad that there weren't any megathreads. I just wish that you would backup your statements just a bit more than posting examples or someone else's quotes. If you make a statement like "you should never trust banks", you should embellish your response with a bit more persuasion. Overall, great round,a nd I look forward to seeing what you produce in the future!

r1s2g3: This week, it seems as if you've taken a genuine interest into how the forums work especially with the merit features. It's a good thing, however, because you've chosen the opposite route of members that are just fishing for merits. Your posts are contributive, and you've definitely done a lot of research for many of them for this round! Great job! For the future, I'd love to see you take more of a direction of finding threads that have to do with Bitcoin and Altcoins, rather than just meta and merits. It was hard for me to critique you this week, as the majority of your posts were in those boards. Overall, however, great job. You're definitely above average.

dmonrey002: You're obviously familiar with trading, which is always a good addition to the forums. However, I noticed you posted in a megathread, which you should be weary of. While your post may have substance, those threads were only designed to farm member ranks and activity, and your post will easily get overlooked there, ultimately becoming spam for the forums. Feel free to venture about the forums and discover other boards. You've done some great research and showed that you can post some awesome quality posts, so let's see more of that moving forward. You show great potential!

Meretrix: Wow. When I learned that you were going to use this account as a fictitious character to base a novel on, I had no idea that your writing ability reached out further than just technical jargon and succint evaluations of bitcoin, this forum, and its members. I'll be honest. When I first started reading Chapter 1, I thought to myself "this is going to be an awkward relationship of love between Bitcoin and Meretrix." and I was right. Can I go as far as calling this a fetish? Here's the thing; I actually can't wait to read the next chapter lol. While this is a great piece of entertainment, and I'm glad that it's being played out and released on the forums, it doesn't flow well with my criteria. While I want to give you high scores, I need to make it fair for others who are posting based on their commitment to my suggestions, so I'm going to follow the same criteria for judging your posts this round. The score does NOT reflect your writing ability, which we all know is, simply put, amazing.

charlie137: You've had a few diamonds in the rough this round, but the overall vibe that I got from your posts this round were that of laziness that required minimal thought. A few of your posts are good, but the majority were in topics where your reply would not have made a difference whether you posted or not. In the future, try to add more substance and references to your posts that need them, especially when stating things like "did you tried other browsers? it looks okay on my safari. usually safari is the one you having problems with) also whois returned Brazil" or "keeping a few. after eip #867 and followed events.... its not a blockchain in its meaning". You could easily add just a few more words to those posts to make them substantial versus just one line answers. Overall, you've got great potential, and I look forward to seeing what kind of quality you can pump out in future rounds!

Blue Tyrant: Aww, I'm kind of disappointed with the level of quality of your posts this week, but understandably, you did state that you were busy. Although your posts were contributive, they seem a bit lazy, to be honest. I don't have too much to critique, because I know that you know that your posts can be much better than what they've been this week! I hope to see some better content in future rounds.

marcelo01: All right... Not bad. You're obviously a newbie, not just to the forums, but Bitcoin in general, and I'm glad that you chose to participate in this challenge. I like where your head is at. Your post quality is very decent, and it's fun to watch the progression of quality throughout the week. While most of your posts are in the Off-Topic board, I gather that's just because you're new here. This week, I want to push you to start looking through the results of the top 5 winners of Round 4, and view their post history. You definitely show potential to being a top-ranked user here; just do a little more research, and try to find boards that you're comfortable with posting in. I know that it can be overwhelming for a newbie, but I can see potential with you. Keep up the great work, and I hope to see your score rise every week!

DREWSKIE: While some of your posts have good content, you've chosen to post in megathreads, which ultimately render your replies useless, as those threads are not contributive to the forums. They were designed to farm account ranks, and support members who only wish to rally up their activity in order to rank up. It's unfortunate, because you do have the ability to post relevant content. Just please avoid the megathreads when posting in the future. Try to choose more relevant and topical conversations to become a part of.

Daboy_Lyle: You have a lot of blanket statements that are definitive, such as "I have a chart here that will prove that this time is the best to buy bitcoin." but there is no substance or facts to backup that claim. I consider posts like yours as "shit posts". They don't contribute at all to the overall thread, and your post would make no difference whether it was there or not. In the future, please consider spending more time and thought into your posts, and if you plan on stating something "factually", try to back it up with some documentation.

kiemnhieutien: With the exception of just a few posts (and obviously the posts in bounties threads), your posts are unsubstantial. The couple of good posts you have, you instruct others about how to join bounties or earn money from the forums, which shouldn't be the sole purpose for joining the forums. If I'm going to be honest, I consider you to be a shit poster, simply because it's obvious that you have spent more time on the threads here designed to earn an income than the ones that are generally about Bitcoin/cryptocurrency overall. If you're serious about wanting to help improve the forums, I'm going to ask you to partake in more discussions related to the crypto industry, rather than just bounty threads and merit threads.

Danstan: I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you're just a little bit above the average shitposter. Your posts are in mainly megathreads or topics that were designed specifically to farm member ranks and activity. The topics you posted in (and one that you created and then abandoned) are completely unsubstantial, and your posts are also non-contributive and show little effort. While it's obvious that some of your posts took a lot of time to write, just remember one thing: Just because you post a lot of text does not mean that your post is substantial. Please try to partake in conversations that are more related to Bitcoin and Altcoins in the future.

EzBreezy: Your posts are generic and blanket statements. You haven't researched ANY of your answers, and have provided purely speculative posts (with the exception of your merit abuser post). This is very unhealthy thinking, and you shouldn't post just for the sake of posting, especially when your replies don't have any substance. Try to avoid megathreads, or topics that are based on a question or speculation, as these are filled with spam posts simply designed to farm member ranks and activity. In the future, if you're going to give such speculatively definitive answers, such as "I think both are good because they are all profitable. There are only difference when it comes to working on it investing is just sending your fund...", show some examples of the difference, rather than just stating "both are good". I think it would benefit you to browse around the forums and read more than you post for the time being. Just because you post a lot doesn't mean that any of the posts are good.

fortuneteller: Because you're new, it's easy to post in megathreads, as they're designed to look like they're substantial. In reality, they are not, and by contributing to those threads, you're ultimately adding to the logs of spam that we have littering this forum. While I know that it's hard to partake in healthy conversations about bitcoin and crypto as a newbie (to both bitcoin and these forums), I would advise you to start asking questions. The right questions. Stay out of posting in Bitcoin Discussion (while you're more than welcome to read the posts; you MAY find some valuable information in there). I will state that your post quality has gotten a LOT better from the duration of this round; MUCH better than prior to you joining this challenge, but feel free to browse the entirety of the forums, and not just the Bitcoin Discussion sub.

newBIeT: You've done what most newbies to Bitcoin and these forums have done. Posting in generic speculative topics and megathreads that are designed to simply farm member activity and ranks. While your posts make sense, they are heavily opinionated and positioned in a way that sounds definitive. You post without providing any kind of references or sources for your statements, which immediately invalidates your opinions. These types of posts are highly non-contributive, and in fact, unsubstancial. Your posts could easily be deleted and still would not shift the direction of the topics they were posted in. Please try to avoid posting generic answers that have already been answered somewhere within the dozens of pages before your answer. This is considered "shitposting", which goes against everything this challenge stands for. Try to hang out in more relevant and topical discussions, and don't be afriad to ask questions if you don't know the answer. Better luck in the future!

Lorin: I'm going to be very blunt and direct with you, simply because you're a Full Member and have been here long enough to know this. You are a shitposter. EVERY single one of your posts are in megathreads and your answers are extremely unsubstantial. Your posts have made absolutely no positive difference to the topics they were posted in. If you want to remain in this challenge with the current style that you're posting in, I HIGHLY advise that you take a look at our past winners and model their post quality and history. As it stands, you are the lowest scoring non-disqualified participant in the history of this challenge. If you're serious about wanting to make this forum a better place, let me know. Otherwise, I can assure you that you will never place in any rewarding spots of this challenge.

Sellingaccs: I hope you return for Round 5. I wasn't sure if you wanted to remain in this campaign for Round 4 due to your statements throughout the week, and I see that you've applied to a sig campaign. But I would love to see you here; you're welcome to join anytime, @Sellingaccs!

Disqualified Participants

Michael CF: You're obviously here on the forums to make money. This is fine, but try to be more contributive in your posts (that are not related to bounties). One line answers are fine, as long as they portray a strong message, and isn't just a repeat of someone else's answer. I'm going to disqualify you this round, as you haven't had enough posts that were gradeable and outside of bounty threads. Oh, and another thing, please do not ever use the word "sir" again in any posts. I know that you view it as a term of respect, but the first world views it as a title that is only used by shitposters.

MyLitecoin: Does not qualify. Only 4 posts made this round

detector: Does not qualify. Only 6 posts made this round.

Wabaman: Does not qualify. Only 6 posts made this round.

max2607: Does not qualify. Only 4 posts made this round.

yazher: Disqualified. Applied for paid signature campaign during Round 4.

samidhu1: Disqualified. Wearing a paid signature.

samidhu1: Disqualified. Wearing a paid signature.

Banned Participants

zangleerb: Disqualified and banned. 95% of your posts are in bounty threads, and the remaining don't have enough substance to score. Obviously, you're missing the point of this challenge. You are now banned from it, as your ONLY intention was the chance of earning cash. And it's blatantly obvious, given your post history.
