I think it would be interesting to see the 3-7 days before in terms of traffic as compared the 3-7 days after the shutdown. That might give some idea of the number of transactions. I suspect it wasn't a large percent of them, but who knows for sure. How big part of bitcoin transactions were SR related?

"seized 3.2 million worth of bitcoin"
How would that have happened? Why isn't that money stored in safe cold storage?
It's probable he has more squirreled away somewhere.

Don't know about that...the alleged "hitman" incident was from March of this year, months before they seized his server. That changes my opinion somewhat. I'll still reserve judgement until more info comes out. It's not wise to believe the government's story on first hearing, though it does look like his hubris brought him down. I doubt they would have just made something like that up to help their case
I don't share your doubt about American LE.

Never been to SK, but I think this will turn out to be money in customer accounts / wallets as well as some temporary storage for recent transaction fees.

Sam Spade: We were talking about a lot more money than this. Kasper Gutman: Yes, sir, we were, but this is genuine coin of the realm. With a dollar of this, you can buy ten dollars of talk.

So...
Any word as to why the SR camel is on the background of the seizure notice?

Someone needs to start working on the Hollywood movie of this story. That kind of publicity can only be good for Bitcoin.
I read the affidavit, definitely looks like something Hollywood can make into a movie.

If they had the hard drive they most likely had the key to operate the site and thus access to that information.
Which also means that his words about hiring a hitman could be forged in order to screw him to the wall harder and remove support from the Bitcoin community. Yeah I call bullshit on this hitman stuff, he does not look like the sort of person who would put hits out on people. Probably a smear campaign to make him out to be a hardened criminal rather than an business man. Your basis for calling "bullshit" is he doesn't "look like the sort..."? Please tell me you're joking. What should he look like then? Tony Soprano?

Who will ever really know? "Torvalds was also asked if he had ever been approached by the U.S. government to insert a backdoor into Linux. Torvalds responded “no” while [nodding] his head “yes,” as the audience broke into spontaneous laughter. "

regarding this hitman case:
I find this hard to believe, why would he communicate this in clear text? I'm damn sure this guy knew how to use PGP

I noticed it too, and I liked it. If you read the full report, you will see that there is no conclusive evidence that the "ordered" murder actually happened, only a suspicion. It may just have been part of an intimidation or something. Not that I'm defending him... Overall, after reading the report, I must say that I was impressed by the good work of the FBI on this case.
