Performance update.

Present setup case cover removed and large fan placed in the middle of the 4 ASIC Units blowing air down creating a downdraft of cool air over all the components.

7 Hr plus operation results with 0 cgminer restarts.

Running firmware 0.9.3 (Fix the reboot issue)

The screen shot below is what the performance was before removing the cover and putting the large fan on top blowing cool ambient air down.

Running firmware 0.9.2

For those still sceptical.

Here the jupiter with the case top back on and back 100% to stock running firmware 0.9.3

Note: I put the case on while the system was operational as to not stop cgminer as it has been running without restarts.

Notice that within moments after fpga error is displayed.

Same CGMINER start time

so pretty much take the lid off check for chunks of metal, loose equipment, then proceed to connect and power on without putting the lid back on, in fact point a high CFM fan at it too. ok.

Finally auto restarted less than 2 hours later.

You can notice that firmware v0.9.3 seems to have improved the speed off the start.
I also notice less heat buildup under the unit.

I will leave it with cover on for the next 5 hours and see what pool reports.

Average speed seems to be dropping and HW errors are increasing.

The famous show stopping FPGA Error that drops performance.

Firmware v0.9.3 stock cooling and case cover on.

Note: once v0.9.4 is released I will do a baseline with cover on and then off and then with the new fans with cover on.

And the FPGA Error once again.

I can tell that this thing is struggling with the lack of adequate airflow now. However it is not as bad as the first firmware v0.9.0

Edit: 500GH/s Average rate reported by pool for over 2hrs now. Down from a reported rate of over 540GH/s by the pool with the case cover off and a fan pointing down at the boards.

That is a loss of over 40GH/s

Kudos Sitarow. Very well done report!

Could please share type/brand of the fan you put on top of the jup?

It's great seeing KnC taking a huge shit on BFL's front door.  Now I know where to order my future miners from.. right after I throw these BFL singles (aka JUNK) right out my window. POS BFL.

Nothing wrong with BFL gear, it's just they took many months too long to get it out the door once their wafers finally arrived in April, so now it's not cost effective to run unless BTC jumps up to $400 in the next few weeks.

And the FPGA Error once again.

That's not an error as such it's just the machine clearing out old work when a new block is found, if it didn't do that the speed would stay the same but you'd then have a load of stale shares until it got back on to fresh work.  Although it drops the speed I don't think it will affect actual shares submitted.

Great work with your experiments, watching closely Smiley

dunno sorry, knc didn't release any schematics from which you can enumerate core ASIC.

which fw? do you already upgrade to .94?

which is slot 4?

dunno. the only thing that comes to my mind is testing on the machine powering off one core at a time
like KnC explain here (https://www.kncminer.com/pages/support):

Quote
To verify if an ASIC board is broken or the performance drop is due to software issues please follow these steps:

1. Turn off and disconnect your PSU.
2. Open your miner case.
3. Unplug the flat ribben cable connecting one of the ASIC Boards (the circuit board that has the big fan on it) to the controller board.
4. Unplug the PCI-Express power cable from the ASIC board.
5. Ensure all other cables are connected properly.
6. Reconnect the PSU and power on the miner. Let the miner work for an hour to asses performance.

If the miner is now performing as expected you should install the 0.9.4 firmware.

7. Turn off the power and disconnect the PSU, reconnect all the PCI-E and ribben cables.
8. Restart the miner and install firmware 0.9.4.
