I've been researching bitcoin for a few months, and it seems like all the really impressive people in the cryptocurrency community are working on bitcoin or bitcoin-related businesses. The guys at Ripple seem pretty good, but they're not directly competing with bitcoin. Maybe Charles Lee (creator of litecoin) is a good engineer (Google hired him, so he can't be too bad), but litecoin itself is not innovative, and when I've heard Chris give interviews he doesn't seem to have any great ideas for why litecoin is going to be better than bitcoin.
So because it seems like all the best people are focused on bitcoin, I think the altcoins out there now are pretty hopeless. Maybe I'm missing something though. Who are the most impressive people you guys know of who are working on altcoins?

when I've heard Chris give interviews he doesn't seem to have any great ideas for why litecoin is going to be better than bitcoin.
He never intended to make Litecoin to be a replacement of Bitcoin. He sees it as Bitcoin is equal to Gold, and Litecoin is equal to Silver. |

The gold/silver thing is a marketing gimmick (a very clever one). Bitcoin itself is the silver to bitcoin's gold -- just send less of it and there's your silver.

Why do you think "developer" support disappears the day the coin is released? There's no such thing as gpu/fpga/asic hostile. If these coins had a market force behind them like Bitcoin did, you can bet your ass an ASIC would be out without months. |

There's no such thing as gpu/fpga/asic hostile. If these coins had a market force behind them like Bitcoin did, you can bet your ass an ASIC would be out without months. I did not say it was asic hostile... they have been working for months to migrate a miner to gpu, with less then stellar results. I think if you asked the guy trying to get it working well on gpus... he would say it was hostile  |

Someone is already making a program for GPU mining for primecoin, its just a matter of time. yes, they are.. and did.. and couldn't get even 2 times faster then the cpu... also, not sure if they have even found a block with gpu yet... It is nothing like just doing a hash and paralleling it... |
