http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1oce66/send_bitcoin_by_sound_waves_point_of_sale_mobile/Accepting Bitcoin at Point of Sale; Mobile Checkout or splitting a dinner bill with a friend in bitcoin has never been easier. No more messing around with trying to take a photo or scanning a QR code, or writing in the Bitcoin address manually on your smartphone. Now by simply allowing your handset to listen to a “Chirp”, all the required information for making the payment to the cashier or bitcoin ewallet is provided in mere second. We here at BIPS are working hard to provide people in all of the world with ever easier methods of accepting Bitcoin as payment. The “proof of concept” of this new system has already been integrated in your Mobile Checkout web application, so if you have a BIPS account try it for yourself today! You will want to use Chrome on desktop and any mobile browser on your smartphone. For receiving the information of the “Chirp” you can try http://chirp.io/ until BIPS official app is ready. For people wanting to see this without having a BIPS account, use Kris Henriksen’s link, https://bips.me/checkout/mobile/cbJust type in the description and amount + currency, and click Checkout. A short “bird song” will be heard, and this is what we use to send the information. The information that is being transferred over sound waves is based on the official Bitcoin URI Scheme, so any existing app out there will be able to implement this and automatically fill out the required fields for making the payment. If you have any questions, or ideas for improvement, feel free to reply here or get in touch with us by https://helpdesk.bips.meRegards BIPS You think this is useful ? We could sure use your upvote, thanks! Regards BIPS

Only useful if bisp is not behind of it. ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT USE THE BITCOIN BLOCKCHAIN IS A SCAM.
LOOK AT INSTAWALLET LOOK AT BITCOINICA LOOK AT MYBITCOIN
Read the SATOSHI NAKAMOTO bitcoin white paper. Were small transactions can be made WITHOUT trusting a 3rd party. if u dont have the private keys then U DONT OWN ANY BITCOINS
EDIT: This post was done by a hacker that took control over my account. I had not changed my password on bitcointalk and I had an easy one. I have no regained control over the account. Ignore this post.

BIPS BITPAY IS SCAMS
Now I don't know the opposite word of shy, but wow, this is the true definition of it! Sorry for being sarcastic, but ? BIPS business plan is to allow you as a client to transfer the Bitcoin received directly to your bank account. However merchants and ewallet users also have the possibility of making the choice of keeping the bitcoin in what is called an ewallet, and from there manage the selling of the bitcoins manually.

sending files via sound...
can anyone remember the annoying noise that 56k dial up modems made. or the beeps and hums a zx spectrum PC made when loading a program. with NFC, Wifi, bluetooth, and cameraphone (QRCODE) being out for a while now.. isnt this 'sound transmission' a little backwards.. like 1990's style of data transmission.
i imagine star bucks telling the customer the total, the customer saying they want to pay via bitcoin. then suddenly the staff member shouts "everyone please be silent this customer needs to receive a soundbite to pay us"..
customer is then loading up his phone hitting the microphone on button and then nodding in silence to inform the staff member he is ready to receive the soundbite.
all the customers inside starbucks then get a screeching sound in their ear.
-
now the way i prefer to see it is that bips have a server containing deposit addresses for 'members' to put in a small pocket money amount (say 0.2BTC($25)) to cover a weeks worth of coffee or sandwiches..
the customer simply opens their bips app selects starbucks and then scans the drinks QR code from a menu found anywhere instore and pressing send order. this via mobile internet/wifi is received by BIPS/starbucks that member 123xyz ordered a double latte and at the same time the funds are moved from the members deposit balance into their bips starbucks account ready to transfer into FIAT.
and because members have pre-paid, the funds are already confirmed
all that is needed is a app made by bips to connect merchants and members together. and a server holding bitcoin addresses for people. thi same app could list any merchant that was 'affiliated' with BIPS.
this way they can order before they enter star bucks. or at the table without interacting with staff. making staff more efficient by making coffees instead of standing at cash registers.

I could imagine this as well. However this works even with background noise. It sounds like this http://chirp.io/chirps/made_of_sound_2.oggnow the way i prefer to see it is that bips have a server containing deposit addresses for 'members' to put in a small pocket money amount (say 0.2BTC($25)) to cover a weeks worth of coffee or sandwiches..

This could already be solved if both parties had BIPS wallets. When you send to say, starbucks's account, the bitcoins is simply moved instantly. I am working really hard on finishing the BIPS native app. The webapp is simply not fast enough, however it does the trick and cannot be removed from any app store.

i went to the chirp website and read their waffle.
it involves pressing the yellow button to record the sound.. and is done best near the sound with limited background sound to work best..
now lets imagine 2 coffee orders going through at the same time from 2 cash registers.. both customers hearing each others sounds and all confusion.
now imagine sitting at the table outside starbucks seeing the staff are busy and there is a queue.. you need to indicate to a waiter or join the line to get another coffee.... and get the record button ready.
but my idea is to just stay sat at the table, select starbucks from bips app, scan the coffee QR code from the menu and then press order.. no staff needed, no chirps needed, no unique addresses needed for the merchant to distinguish between transactions. no confirms needed as funds are pre-confirmed..
that is how things should be done..
EDIT: whats not fast enough, what part of the transaction is slow (having never used it i thought id ask)

And this my dear sir, is a very good idea. 1. You could make it so you visit a website with all the coffee variants, simply clicking on what you want, and you will be presented with the payment information, from where you can pay using whatever Bitcoin app. 2. You could scan the menu card, which would have QR codes for every coffee variants, and be directed directly to the payment. 3. Only imagination. But wow what a roller coaster we are about to embark on.

i was more thinking of a quickpay app bips could make. customers: registration - get given deposit address to PRE-PAY a small pocket money amount (this is to preconfirm payment and create a balance/credit) using it - app shows a list of merchants to pay that use the quickpay gateway. customer selects the merchant. customer scans a product barcode or qr code that holds info like the price and product name API call from the app goes to bipsquickpay server and changes the balances/credit in favor of the merchant and sends the order via API to the merchant. no waiting for confirms as the funds are technically already in bips hands. and as it is only 2 API calls and a balanace/credit database alteration it should take only a second or 2 to complete

Here's a thought... would it be possible to do this with ultrasound? Or if not technically ultrasound, maybe a "mosquito" tone that most adults couldn't hear? Not that it would really bother me that much, but a "silent chirp" might be considered more user friendly by most.

Bitcoin is the ultimate freedom test. It tells you who is giving lip service and who genuinely believes in it.
... ... In the future, books that summarize the history of money will have a line that says, “and then came bitcoin.” It is the economic singularity. And we are living in it now. - Ryan Dickherber... ... ATTENTION BFL MINING NEWBS: Just got your Jalapenos in? Wondering how to get the most value for the least hassle? Give BitMinter a try! It's a smaller pool with a fair & low-fee payment method, lots of statistical feedback, and it's easier than EasyMiner! (Yes, we want your hashing power, but seriously, it IS the easiest pool to use! Sign up in seconds to try it!)... ... The idea that deflation causes hoarding (to any problematic degree) is a lie used to justify theft of value from your savings.

no because most microphones and speakers can't reliably emit sounds outside of human hearing range. before you suggest better microphones/speakers, keep in mind some phones have NFC already.
