According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I wish that I knew about this sooner. I would have got a friend to refer me and split the returns with them. Fees really can add up to being a lot over time so this is a big amount of money. Is there any way to create a new account and refer yourself?

You should be able to create a new account without any issues. The only problem that might occur is if you've already done KYC (Know Your Customer) on that exchange or platform. As from experience you can only do KYC once.
