Usage of these (Label 400): http://about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/2013/pb22357/html/updt_002.htmI'd have to double check with USPS but I think if it's anything except First Class letter, you have to add extra postage to cover the tracking fee for using stamps or a postage meter, rather than buying postage online (where the non-signature tracking fee is usually free, but so is the tracking # and barcode generated on the spot and appended to the postage/address label).

That's the way SR vendors used to track their packages.

After you order 200 labels, watch out for FBI agents parked outside your house

Well, if you buy a lot of BTC from people for cash in the mail (or vice versa, with tamper-evident paper wallets), I guess these could come in handy... I guess I don't have a good imagination for what else legal that could go in a FC envelope.

Isn't there some rule against mailing currency or is it just liquids? Anyways GJ OP this is useful for sellers of small items that still want tracking but it's not worth is to spend $5 on priority.

Hah, you posted just as I woke up. Anyways, I've been using it for regular letters that I don't really want to pay for priority for. I had no idea SR vendors used these.

Hmm... but they also scan at the PO's. Do they have letter scanning machines?

Used USPS Label 400. Recipient was charged $5.14 to receive 1 oz First Class letter regular envelope, no extra services. Nowhere was a fee listed for "tracking". Fucking scammers at that PO.

You are mad because you tried to rip off the USPS and get caught? You used a tracking label only valid on First Class PACKAGES and Priority Mail letters. The made recipient pay the difference for Priority Mail w/ free tracking.

Was it a weight issue or thickness issue?

No, Label 400 is NOT for First Class PACKAGES and Priority Mail letters. http://about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/2013/pb22357/html/updt_002.htmFirst Class Package tracking is Label 001, NOT 400. Priority Mail tracking is Label 055, NOT 400. Was it a weight issue or thickness issue?
As I said it was 1 oz. It was as flexible/thick as any plain paper envelope with a single sheet of copy paper inside.

Label 400 is a generic tracking label it can be used for first class packages, or priority mail, or any service where paid tracking is added. Just because USPS also has specific service labels doesn't mean the 400 isn't used for those purposes as well. THERE IS NO FREE TRACKING FOR FIRST CLASS MAIL PACKAGES IF SHIPPED RETAIL.THERE IS NO TRACKING AT ALL (FREE OR PAID) FOR FIRST CLASS LETTERS.Therefore if you have a tracking label on an envelope it it can not be first class mail. You mailed a priority mail letter with insufficient postage because you believed the nonsense in the OP. http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm100/extra-services.htmExtra [as in you past extra] Service: ... First-Class Mail ... USPS Tracking*
... * For packages only.

... USPS SHOULD NOT REQUIRE A GENIUS LEVEL IQ TO NAVIGATE.
Don't stress. Read that again and laugh a bit. Of course USPS is a bankrupt fucked up maze of shit. In the modern world of the internet and printers they still ship you packs of tracking labels. Oh and max 4 packs per order. Not 3 or 5 but only 4 packs.

Exactly.
They should ship exactly ZERO packs of tracking labels and recycle their current stock out of existence, because other than First Class stamps for letters, and the idiots still using more-expensive-than-retail postage meters, everyone else prints all-in-one postage/address/tracking labels for their packages at below- or at-retail rates, depending on the type. No need for these bullshit surprise tracking labels, except to trap anyone with sub-genius IQs. As I recall DAT's deeply technical crypto posts, there's no way he's on our lower level.
Where does USPS get off taking a 1 oz envelope with First Class stamps and upgrading it to Priority Mail? Just leave it in my goddamn mailbox until I figure out that I need to ask "why?"!
