Hello,
I want to buy a new video card, but don't know which one to choose.
I will use my pc 50% for gaming and 50% for mining.
For gaming both are very good, but which is better for mining?
AMD Radeon R9 280X or AMD Radeon HD 7970
Both cards have the same stats, but some say that R9 280X is 20% faster, that true?
Which one to buy?

I believe HD 7970 is better but R9 280x do have better resell value. So pick one Smiley

I haven't tested these GPUs myself, but from reviews it seems to be true.

The Radeon R9 280X is selling for $300, which is cheaper than most of the Radeon HD 7970s on the market, despite clock rates closer to the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition.

I think the R9 280X is going to dethrone the 7950 as the go too Altcoin card. I hope with tweaking it will get 800Khs. I've been able to get 750khs per GPU on a 7990, but the cooling was holding the card from going above 1500.  I got one on order and will see how things go

I would choose AMD. I had one older card and I can't say a bad word about it.

R9 280x seem to be a better deal unless you can get cheap HD 7970

Not true, AMD R9 280x is just about 1-5% faster then HD 7970 depending on your settings.

Go for the latest, it will have a higher resell value if you decide to get rid of it.
