I am just curious to see how many people have sold their GPU rigs or have moved them to alternate coins. I would assume most people moved them to a script coin of some kind.
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

haha. well thats awesome. I have been thinking about putting together some scrypt coin rigs while i wait for a good $/ghs ASIC to hit the market. Based on the calculations i am using its still slightly profitable. I see it more as a hobby and transferring purchasing power away from heavily taxed systems to more free currency. Even if i had a slight loss i would still mine them.

GPU rigs are more easily to pass on than a old ASIC due to the GPU rigs just being computers and can part out and sell.

whats your cost and return?

I am not counting on them in that fashion. They have paid for themselves four times more than they were paid for, and even now, they pay for the electric power they use and they make some profit, and in these days of price climbing, they made great profit since I was keeping btc for USD 150. If you think of buying cards now, don't do that. Most likely, you won't make the investment back, unless there is some crazy alt-coin to mine wiht 20 times profitability, or you are lucky and you keep the right alt-coin and sell it when it gets pumped.

It will work for me, the road to it might be long but my power is free so..

Free power. I would be rich if my power was free all these years

And even if you burn, if you bought from the right manufacturer, it gets replaced in 2 or 3 years timeframe. Most of the asics don't have any warranty
