paper wallet/private key question

I am making some paper wallets to hand out to my nieces and nephews, or rather to their parents.  I am making accounts on blockchain.info and will include the logins, plus I want to include private keys for each one.  I have found that I can view the private keys in "Base58", whatever the heck that is.  But I have seen on other paper wallets that sometimes private keys are expressed in simpler ways, more like plain text.  How should I put the private key on the paper wallet?  Is the Base58 format fine?

Base58 is a fancy term for "make it plain text, but leave out characters that might be confused for others".

We have 26 lower case characters, 26 upper case ones too. And 10 digitis. 62 total characters available. However, the 0 resembles the O quite a bit and the I and l are sometimes confused, so lets not use those. 58 characters remain. Base58.

You guys are helping me a lot; thank you!  The only problem is the the output that I get for "Base58" is loaded with brackets and tons of spaces and punctuation and other stuff that is not how you describe Base58.  Why am I getting all of these weird characters?

That sounds like the AES encrypted version of the wallet rather than the Base58 private key.

If you want to hand out paper wallets then don't go with blockchain.info (bci). They change policies all the time. For example you didn't have to associate an email with a wallet in the past but now you do. So better use a paper wallet generator:
