I think yes, people trust btc now, and are not panic selling like before.
Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

Hello bitcoin world!
Bitcoin will hit 300 to the end of the year. But if you talk about constant value over 300, it will be perhaps next year.Just my opinion. Smiley

I doubt it will hit 300$ anytime soon, UNLESS we see something major happen that draws a massive influx of BTC users, with saying that it is quite likely.

I believe once people are no longer buying ASIC and hold, the price would go up. I am thinking those corporate have been selling all the BTC they get..

It will be above $500 next year.

What are you basing this on? The price won't rise without something that triggers it. The recent price rise was triggered by BTChina, what would trigger a $300 rise in a year?

I believe the difficulty of mining Bitcoin will increase the price next year

Maybe 250, but 300?, I don't think so, maybe next year Smiley

I am more concern that the price doesn't drop from 100 (which i also think won't happen)

You can make Bitcoin hit almost any value.

You could give someone $1 for 0.00001 Bitcoin. That values Bitcoin at $100K/Bitcoin!

Woot! Bitcoin just hit $100K!!!

The reason it might is because ASIC miners cannot be used for different task and hard to imagine people will turn these off. So these might mine at a loss if owners sell BTC immediatelly, so they might hold mined BTC instead

$300 is a realistic price in the long term, maybe only within one, but of course that is just my opinion. The reason I think this it is because of the law of offer and demand, if more people get interested in bitcoin it will be more demanded and more people will be willing to pay a higher price. Of course that the first time we see bitcoin reach that price the volatility might be higher. What I wonder is instead, will bitcoin ever be in an stable price, at $300 or at any other?

300 is a long way off.  I see it getting there but there needs to be far more adoption by local business's for this thing to gain more traction.  It's wonderful that a lot of e-services are starting to accept it but we need far more real world adoption for it to really grow.  It's an amazingly fun thing to be a part of however, hopefully we get there!

We're basing it on having an order of magnitude growth every 10 months so far.  And with the Second Market fund bringing in a lot of wealthy old-money people and with the Winklevoss twins' new ETF bringing in everyone's 401ks and IRAs, there's no reason to believe it won't continue at that rate until proven otherwise.

Oh, and I think we'll see 300 in March 2014.

$300? Definitely. When? Probably by the end of the year. Bitcoin will come to shine brighter and brighter as time passes due to the inevitaable death knell of the United States financial hegemony through their increasingly invasive and abrasive financial regulations. I imagine $1000/BTC in a few years due to rapid inflation that will occur when circulating cash 'round the world returns to the United States... but I also imagine the DOW at 20,000 due to the same inflation.

I own stocks, gold, and BTC. Priced in dollars...I'm bullish on all three.

We will definitely see $300 btc.

One thing is for sure though and that is BTC is an unmanipulated market the likes of which no one of alive has ever seen.
Gold is manipulated, silver, stocks, bonds, future markets, etc by the banks/cia/illuminati.  Bitcoin however doesn't seem to be manipulated and so should follow math. Supply and Demand folks. The supply is fixed and the demand is growing. You do the math.

Many things will drive it up.
  • Edan Yago launches his Cryptocurrency-based Political Zone in a sensible part of South America [November]. Caribbean coast gets my vote; Guyana or Suriname. Its a free market city on leased land (~99 year) in a third world country.
  • A large chain store accepting bitcoin in the western world.
  • A mention of bitcoin in media in connection to crowdfunding of public goods.
  • A mention of bitcoin in a major primary debate/ battle between the Tea Party Republicans and the rino's (republicans in name only).
  • A positive mention of bitcoin in the 2014 election.
  • Or a completely foolish attack on it by democrat member that is clearly lossing his seat and had not done any research.
  • A third world country with a small population switching to bitcoin or creating an Altcoin to replace its failed currecy.
A few things can drive it down.
  • Fincen or the FBI take down a mixer successfully.
  • a Kidnap and ransom case with a bitcoin demand. Many noobs would not realise that because the block chains public the ransoms traceable. People would expect a knock on the door during the hunt. The anarchist would panic sell on a successful trace and arrest. People will call for a ban on bitcoin. It would come back up.
  • The FBI goes insane and sells the confiscated silk road bitcoin and tiny prices in an attempt to kill the marker. That should fail but some will panic.

It should still end higher mid 2014 regardless of what happens.

Many things will drive it up.
    ...
  • A large chain store accepting bitcoin in the western world.
  • A mention of bitcoin in media in connection to crowdfunding of public goods.
  • A mention of bitcoin in a major primary debate/ battle between the Tea Party Republicans and the rino's (republicans in name only).
  • A positive mention of bitcoin in the 2014 election.

...
It should still end higher mid 2014 regardless of what happens.

Id be quite surprised if any western politician would dare to try to mention cryptos in a positive light*. Since the western political world are in bed with the banks, why would they want to upset them?
Similarly with large retail chains, they get a lot of credit from bankers, why give them a slap in the face? Everyone can just quietly dabble with BTC for the time being, no need to bring it into the limelight until its impossible to ignore.

*Im sure the banks are figuring out a way to get 'profitably involved' with crypto world at the mo, or have already figured it out and are just waiting for the best time to do so without killing the market dead.

I agree the price will keep going up (asides the odd pivot point sell off, like when it hits 250 again). But I think its up to the independant stores to get BTC into the high street for the next loong while (until the banks take a position*).[/list]

My prediction:
In light of the increase in price due to the influx of money/interest from China (according to bitcoincharts, BTChinas market share in Yuan increased from 7% to 20%), thus boosting the prices from 120s to the current 200s. I believe the next big sustainable price increase will come from Canada in the coming months, also increasing their market share in BTC from 7% to 20%.

This will happen as a result of the successful and sustained deployment of the bitcoin ATM machines in Vancouver and across Canada. While I doubt there will be a high volume of monetary activity through the machines, the machines will act as patron saints to BTC and will get Canadians interested, or at least move them towards actions within the Canadian market. I would expect this process to take 1 to 2 months. This is accounting for opening trading accounts in Canada.

My 2 Satoshis.

I totally think it is possible within the year. The fact is this, the more people that know & start the use BTC the more demand there will be. As the above poster mentioned, the lofty price bump was related to Asia's further discovery of the currency. So I think that a large part of it  is placed on the shoulders of the community. Get out there and start talking about BTC. Tell your friends, tell your family, half joke with your local businessman if he accepts Bitcoin because your short on "cash". If you offer a service ....any service, offer a bitcoin service. If you sell stuff on craigslist, a simple one line stating youll accept bitcoin with a discounted price could be effective. coinbase has made some leaps and bounds make stupid simple means to integrate BTC for merchants. A combined effort could prove powerful.

Ohh and one more thing, as you preach your Bitcoin gospel. Set people straight. I bet a large percentage of people that are vaguely familiar with BTC will associate it to "The drug currency" or the "internet black market money" which is stupid because If i want to buy illegals, I can do so with USD, EURO etc etc. Sorry but that one i a pet peeve of mine so I had to include in my rant. Cheers...

There is no doubt in my mind that Bitcoin will hit $300 soon (a few months, if that). I heard there was a new BTC ATM placed in Canada, and there has been a lot of people sharing things on non-Bitcoin sites.

Don't you think BTC is already overvalued? I bet on LTC in the near future!
lol NO. LTC is a fickle mistress... I remember when it was $4/LTC and everyone was convinced it'd go to $10 and stay there.
Yeah, it's rallied lately, but NOTHING like in the past. It's basically a great coin to trade for BTC.

Don't you think BTC is already overvalued? I bet on LTC in the near future!

Nope, Bitcoin is the only usefull cryptocurrency. But good luck with your LTC   Wink

ltc is another good coin. You will see with time ...
Been watching LTC for a long time. Unless you're making BTC off of it... I mean, it's not exactly skyrocketing every day.

This guy offers some interesting numbers...and I wouldn't be surprised if we see something very close to this.

Ok done some calcs based on your idea that this is pre bubble correction.

The numbers match so well from this bubble to the last is actually scary.

If you assume that the two time periods in this pic (http://imgur.com/xneuctr) are from the same part of the bubble then the number are:

Last bubble: $49 ↓(24%) $37 ↑(102%) $75 ↓(30%) $52 ↑(411%) $266

This bubble: $145 ↓(24%) $110 ↑(112%) $233 ↓(25%) $175 ↑(411%) $719?

If this holds up, we haven't even touched the parabolic climb we're about to experience...this will blow away our previous record highs.

Keep reading though...as 719 is definitely the top of a mountain, and then it falls to around 150 (assuming the trend continues like the previous bubble in April).

I have a feeling we'll see some impressive figures well before March, and some impressive crashing as well...it's not the sky falling though, it's the market flooding with newcomers...like this thread...if Bitcoin hits 500+, you can bet your ass the whole world will start waking up to Bitcoin, and we'll see some interesting progression right after a dip back down to the 150 range from some whales becoming millionaires.

So sayeth the hemp.

What's with the rush of new members to this thread?  Cheesy

Probably has to do with the Canada and China news.

All at once, it makes it seem like Bitcoin could hit $300 sooner than could have been predicted. I thought $300 was a while off, at least a year, before I heard these two things.

And this isn't "the good news", this is "the beginning of much good news to come"

Also...if my estimates are correct, we could see a sharp "correction" in the stock market here soon...which will possibly be great for bitcoin, but bad for worldwide economy...we're talking record breaking drops.  Gold, Silver, and Bitcoin stand to gain where fiat may flounder.

As my source for this...I went to Investopedia and looked up Triple Top...

Then I went to Google and pulled the timeline out on the S&P 500 back through 1995 (Standard and Poors top 500 stocks...which most people feel is the pulse of the market).

Although we are past the tops of the previous two peaks...I feel there is little but hot air keeping us there, and a likelihood of running out of hot air balloon fuel.

Not all fiat is going down.

There is something in the Forex world that is being talked about called an "R/V" and "Re-Evaluation". Apparently the Dinar and Dong are about to become more valuable than American dollars, and if you pay attention to what is happening, it almost seems like the American government is doing a 51% takeover of the Iraqi economy.

Everyone says that the American economy has billions invested already, and when you read about the "R/V" it basically sounds like a stimulus plan from America to other countries.

I think what is going to happen is the American government has been pumping Dinar so that American's would preform the 51% take over from home. Then the government will raise the value of Iraqi Dinar and buy it all from American's as they rush to sell.

But, yes, as the dollar falls (if it does indeed fall, instead of the Iraqi Dinar making a great rise. And it could really go either way) Bitcoin will probably see a rise as people look for something to store their money in while the American economy collapses.

With so many new businesses and articles being created recently, I can easily see Bitcoin reaching and exceeding $300 in the next 6 months. We'll see how it goes for the rest of this year though. I don't see any reason why Bitcoins might explode during the holiday season.

Um... How bout, the Silk Road is closed, so now Bitcoins are viable presents. People buy gift cards all the time, and Bitcoin is now basically a giftcard that can be spent anywhere online, but not to buy crack.

And it's the gift card where "If you by it now, it will probably be worth more by Christmas" how many other giftcards can say that?

I think BTC will easily hit $300 this year.  It might even stabilize above $300.

Here's some evidence:
1. The Chinese are starting to buy a bunch of it and the government practically endorses it.
2. The closure of silk road only temporarily depressed the price (although if/when the fbi sells the seized coins the price will certainly drop for a while, but it will be good to get bitcoin into the hands of honest people)
3. The first bitcoin atm's are opening up (in Canada) and it is becoming easier for businesses to accept the coin.

Plus, I think if bitcoin becomes large enough most stores will want to follow the rules and tax bit coin transactions.  This would slow any negative potential government intervention. Once you can buy all of your groceries at Walmart with bitcoin I can see the market cap approaching $1 trillion (in several years).

If the current trend of bitcoin price continues (~1000% year) it could easily hit $1,000 next year, at which point it will be hard for me not to sell some   Grin

$10,000 if the chinese buy em up.

It might due to the new Chinese and mainstream news interest.
I think another 50% increase in a few months would be indicative of a new bubble.
I personally expect it to be around $250 per coin at the end of year.
Really regretting that I just started getting into Bitcoins lately.

I never said I would sell my bitcoins at $1,000, just that I'd be tempted to.  Also, the market will probably remain volatile at that point... I could sell at $1,000 and buy at $500 for example.

I think the price will exceed $1000 by December 25th, this year. Up until the end of the holiday season, bitcoin buying will be rampant. Little children the world over won't want the latest iPad. They'll be screaming at their parents to buy them bitcoins! And parents will placate their children by stuffing their stockings with 1-2 bitcoins. Bitcoins will be found wrapped in presents and hung on trees as ornaments.

I think, if you compare bitcoins to gold, because both are limited goods, it will exceed $10K. Apart from this, 21M BTC is more than will be available because of losses.

I believe we are entering a new realm.  Somewhere I was reading a page (might've been a Forbes article) talking about Bitcoin and relative risks associated with it.  It shows how regulatory risks have actually decreased significantly.  This is huge because the institutional investors won't touch an investment that isn't legal, but once the legal framework exists, it's game on.  The author of the article believes this is a very positive position to be in, and was speaking in a highly bullish manner.

I'd have to say I agree...the US threw some threats around and took out some of the most brazen (DPR and SR), thus leaving the network stronger, with more legitimate businesses on the roster.

I have a suspicion we are about to soar, but if you were to look at the anatomy of a bubble we are still all very much in the "smart money" phase...someday people will be like, I wish I had bought it when it was only 1000 USD a peice!

My bet is $400ish followed by a crash to $210.

People forget that the volumes of cash to take bitcoin to this kind of level are massive compared to bringing bitcoin up to 260.

If this post was useful, interesting or entertaining, then you've misunderstood.

Last month this time it was $130.  Today (4 Nov 2013) it's at $240 and the trend looks upward.  Given that difficulty is going up 40% per month and the days of "anyone can mine bitcoin" are well and truly over, I expect it to be at $300 before the end of the month.

"not forever" just means "not eternally", therefore his statement can be interpreted as "It will not eternally (cancels itself) => maybe? hit $300"  Grin I'm probably overthinking it.

The short answer is yes.  However, the bitcoin exchange rates tend to be extremely volatile, and so if it does touch 300 you can bet it'll jump around for a while.

On the other hand, the huge number of efficient asic miners coming on the market right now will really be a determining factor as to whether the bitcoin continues to grow in value.  Sadly, the bitcoin currency could become something out of reach for the average diy miner very soon.  Economically speaking farms are much more profitable, so large companies that invest lots of resources will end up making the most profit.

Looking at the way its going it will no doubt hit 300$ by the end of the year if not sooner maybe even in the next few WEEKS. I wish I would have bought some a month ago when it was $125 before it instantly bloated overnight. So yes I think it will hit 300 some folks said by the end of the year. I think its going to hit 300 and more by the end of the month if not in the next 2 weeks wouldnt be a surprise. it'll just be another bubble to pop. this is crazy its insane I wake up and check to see its gone up multiple dollars in a night.

In a sense that's true.  Since there is only a limited number of coins that may be mined, as long as there is continued consumer interest the value will increase exponentially.  The more demand, the higher the value.  That's why minting conventional money is often dangerous for the economy: we produce so much money that suddenly it isn't scarce any more.

That can't happen with bitcoin, so lets hope people like it!

I think it will hit $300 in Nov.

first will be crash now and then BTC will recover to 208

That's what I'm leaning more towards too, that we'll have another big drop in the not too distant future, then it will restabilise and continue on its upward ramp.

I think the more recent increases have been down to both larger investers taking bitcoin seriously, along with main stream media picking up on Bitcoin once more, with the stories like the ATM machines in Canada (which I hope to see in the UK very soon!).

It nearly hit $300 today alone. by the time BTC run out and miners only receive a fee from transactions (not for a very very long time still) they should hit $1000-$2000 if not more.

now the interesting question is how many times will it hit $300 and traveling in which direction when it hits?

i have asked a lot of people how they put a value on bitcoins and have heard a lot of interesting answers.

for myself, i have no idea how to value them other than to watch the exchange rate evolve over time and watch the economy around bitcoin evolve. it's still so early in the game. if you told me $1 or $100,000 per btc, they make equal sense to me at this point.

Agree with ^^^

Don't buy just yet, now is a good time to shop with BTC.  There is a slight bubble now, but I don't think BTC will totally crash - it's just overvalued right now because a lot of Chinese nationals are sinking their retirements into it.  Wait until it falls 20-30% and then buy in.

If the current trend of bitcoin price continues (~1000% year) it could easily hit $1,000 next year, at which point it will be hard for me not to sell some   Grin

wow, so we hit 500$/3000CHY this morn!
got me thinking about the Monday 18th meetings-in the forex trading world i dabble in, this kind of huge steady increase in the days before large announcements/discussions that have a large impact on the affected currencies' value is due to a leak on the info to be announced...
maybe were seeing buy ups because the US is about to give it a thumbs up. because its the chinese buying doesnt necessarily indicate much. OR maybe because a lot of the buying is outside of US it indicates the US investors know its going to be bad news and are waiting for the crash...

not much help am i Tongue

got me thinking about the Monday 18th meetings-in the forex trading world i dabble in, this kind of huge steady increase in the days before large announcements/discussions that have a large impact on the affected currencies' value is due to a leak on the info to be announced...
maybe were seeing buy ups because the US is about to give it a thumbs up. because its the chinese buying doesnt necessarily indicate much. OR maybe because a lot of the buying is outside of US it indicates the US investors know its going to be bad news and are waiting for the crash...

not much help am i Tongue

As much as I want to believe this and hope this is the case, if you look at the behaviour of other markets prior to big announcements, what you usually see is a pre-emptive swing in one direction, then as the announcement gets made a huge swing in the opposite direction, its basically traders exploiting the opportunity for some quick fast gains in the market.

Granted there aren't any actual decisions being made at these hearings, but it'll definitely have a big impact.

Eventually.

YES, And the 300$/btc will buy a tank of gas in France.

at one time a guy paid 10,000 btc for a pizza, the day will come when ya can buy 10,000 pizzas for a btc

You do realise that without people like him, your Bitcoin would be worthless today?

If this post was useful, interesting or entertaining, then you've misunderstood.

The question still remains..  Do you think BTC will hit $300?

It's now something like $580 and rising steep. I know want it to drop so I could buy, but will it ever do that?
As soon as it starts to drop even a bit, people start buying, not selling - so how can it really go down?

Another waste of space thread. Those replies look dumb in the hindsight and show how little one can predict. People keep trying to apply classic rules of totalitarian economy to something that is designed to counter it. It will never stick. Nobody knows how bitcoin will behave. Same people who last time when it lost value managed to sell on top and did the same now can clearly see this. Since I got into this I decided to buy it and keep, not speculate on it. What will be the future value of bitcoin is more philosophical question than economical one

Bitcoin cannot be controlled. It can only be speculated upon.

Ony time will tell if under $300 happens. So far there is huge demand so I dont see the price go under $300 this month

You mean $700+? It already passed $600, and will probably stay above $500 for the rest of the year.

By the context it sounds like the Chinese, but in order to stop the crash people must not sell. I guess he means people who are selling?

You right - maybe it's THEM. I don't really know about the crash - I don't sell for "ideological" reasons I guess.

Btw. I look at bitstamp with fascination right now. It's going up to 755 just to fall back to 497 and back to 693? Crazy man......
