I must say that I feel much better about my guesses now than when I made them.

A nice scattering of guesses you have there!

Actually,  not to be a jerk or anything, but I think dipsy might be too late to scoop up November 2013.  I will leave it to Otoh to decide if this ever becomes an issue.

Please express dates as YYYY MM DD or as 29th Feb 2017 say, entries will be closed on the 1st May 2014 when the Bitcoin price hits $500 (but this may be extended by popular demand up to say $750-ish if the majority of those playing wish). Closest guess wins obviously, dates are by GMT/UTC time.

After reading the thread, it seemed some agreed on $750? I'll let Otah clarify.

Answer: in 2 days  21st Nov  Cheesy

How Ripple Rips you: "The founders of Ripple Labs created 100 billion XRP at Ripple's inception. No more can be created according to the rules of the Ripple protocol. Of the 100 billion created, 20 billion XRP were retained by the creators, seeders, venture capital companies and other founders. The remaining 80 billion were given to Ripple Labs. Ripple Labs intends to distribute and sell 55 of that 80 billion XRP to users and strategic partners. Ripple Labs also had a giveaway of under 200 million XRP (0.002% of all XRP) via World Community Grid that was later discontinued.[29] Ripple Labs will retain the remaining 25 billion"

Maybe, but we could also be in for a big correction very soon. Either way, I'm not selling!

Thank you.  I like to think of them as six precision-guided missiles, but proximity mines might be a better metaphor.

Still, I defy you to find somebody else who predicted publicly that we would hit $1000 in November 2013 who wasn't writing in November 2013.

I was kind of counting on the submission cut-off to prevent my dates from being drowned by last-minute submissions, and of course I prefer a narrow reading of the rules in this case.   Wink

We can litigate this later if I continue to underestimate bitcoin.

There'd be no point letting lawyers have your our BTC, I'm sure we'd find a reasonable way to settle!

Anyway, you might be glad later to have my extra contribution to the pot Wink

I am way too cheap not to self-represent.  Actually this pot would double my bitcoin stash and pay off my student loan.  (Also make up for the fact that I have been waiting since last week for my dollars to arrive at CaVirtex.)

I definitely pledge to refund your Nov2013 contribution if this all goes my way.

Edit to clarify after re-reading our conversation:  When I said we could litigate, I was not actually threatening to sue you in the court of Otoh or anywhere else.  Wink

Hehe, we all want more BTC  Wink

I'll tell you what, because I'm a nice guy and it can help your student loan, I'll give you BTC1 + your original stake of BTC0.05 if $1000 lands within my days (& Otoh validates my bet of course).

As I'm also super busy tomorrow, there may be some lag, moving house, traveling to 3 countries over the next two weeks - including transatlantic relocation for 3 months, also a ton of deals to complete, so please bear with me, if you guys can check out the timing of the bets & when we hit $750 I'd much appreciate a consensus on that.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what's been going down today, most still not listed & some I won't anyway as I've proved my rep & no need: https://sites.google.com/site/hannahlogo/10-buying-litecoins-direct-from-me

That is very gracious of you, dipsy, but I think you will find from a careful reading of the thread that although we talked about increasing the cut-off to $750, it was never actually changed.  I believe the final word is below.

I'm cool with $750, 1 vote so far from participants for that, 2 if you count me - I'm going to play but am letting others choose any of the more likely dates first.

Otoh wisely went to great lengths to write clear rules in the original post to cover every eventuality he could think of, and although the rules show a change from a date cut-off to a $500 cut-off, they were never updated again.

I will, of course, submit to your judgement, Otoh.

I gave my brother 15 BTC for Christmas in 2011, and split another 1 BTC into paper wallets for friends and family when it was "only" worth $200.  If only I had kept more for myself.  Imagine what kind of Christmas present this pot could buy for my 2-year-old.  Oh what a large turkey we would have this year.  She is tiny.  If only she were crippled...  Am I laying it on too thick now?  Cheesy

Ok, I gotta admit it's not looking too great for me. When I placed the bet, I didn't convert the BTCChina rate as thought we were basing off Gox.

- According to Bitcoinwisdom, there was a high of 4883.1 CNY at 17:40.
- At that time, XE.com says the CNY/USD price was 0.16415.
- Therefore, the price on BTCChina at 17.40 was $801.56.

My bet was placed at 19:47, so in theory I lose Angry

Is Bitcoinwisdom a reliable source of historic price data? (& are my calculations right?!)

If so, then congrats to Equus!

If you'd like to be nice and refund my bet of BTC0.12, I'll think you're super cool  Grin

I definitely pledge to refund your Nov2013 contribution if this all goes my way.

It's better to be honest, there are already too many douchebags in Bitcoin.

I'll leave it to Otoh to sort out the formalities

Congrats again, you'll have a nice Christmas now!
